If you think I'm wrong, you better have some evidence because I've got citations to back up my views. And if I don't, but you do, then I'll happily change my point of view. I have no loyalties. I wave no flags.

If we got rid of lazy memes, how would imgur users feel superior with their bumper sticker sized views of the world?! We must sustain their illusion that they are smart when they are just too intellectually lazy to understand how the world actually works.

Gold doesn't have value, except for the value that humans place in it. Which is the same with fiat currency, it's only worth what people believe it is worth. Want to know something that is good about fiat over gold? Gold production and ownership can be "cornered" like most commodities when can then crush an economy.

Gold bugs have rose colored glasses when they look at history, especially about supposed financial stability around currency.

I love when people post this meme because it's a great big sign that the poster is both ignorant and too arrogant to actually fact check their own beliefs. If you believe this meme it demonstrates to the rest of us that you too, have the world of information at your fingertips but have decided to remain ignorant. And at this point, it is willful ignorance in both cases which means that the label of stupid is completely acceptable for those people.

If we had used nukes instead of fossil, AGW would be much less. Getting out of the nuclear power system today makes sense. It didn't make sense pre-2005, which is when most of our power stations were built. That's really the key factor at this point. Renewables are more viable today than nuclear, but that's a recent development.

Also, nothing is safe, only safer. Nuclear is safer than fossil fuels, even over the long term. Solar and wind still have high deaths/TW, but they are nowsafer overall.

Well, I'm not a nuke fanbois; but nuclear power is safer, cleaner, and more reliable than the main sources of energy that we use today: fossil fuels. Heck, if we had acted like France and converted the bulk of our power plants to nuclear way back then, we would have a tiny fraction of our current carbon output in the atmosphere. Instead our population freaked out and ignored all the evidence, which is why we are now suffering the effects of Climate Change. Are you happy with Climate Change?

It's surprising how little it takes to live like this, as long you don't have a family. Rule #1 of a decent standard of living with little income is to have zero kids and take care of no one else. Plus there is the location issue. Don't live where costs are high. It's a big planet, there are plenty of lower cost options. If you're not rich, then work somewhere expensive (but live frugal), save everything for 6-12 months, then fly to the hidey hole for a 6-12 months.

It's terrible and feels like it's the backbone of virtually all recent comedies.

I'm always jealous of people who live where there are no fire ants.

/Because if you actually want to worry about impacts, then you should go after the larger or easier sources. A sub at the bottom of the sea is both small and expensive to retrieve.

We all know that dumping waste into the ocean is bad, so we don't allow it; but small accidents will happen with very little impact.

1 day ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's less cavalier and more about perspective. A nuclear sub is tiny compared to the ocean and the amount of nuclear material inside is even smaller. It isn't all flooding out but being released slowly, which means it is being diluted by all the water in the ocean. I'm not saying it is completely "safe" but nothing is safe, just safer. A good question for you is simply, how much nuclear material is naturally occurring in the ocean? Also, how much nuclear material from coal has been released? /

eh, the elephant is eating flora, not fauna.

Reread my comment. I'm not saying what is possible, I'm laying out what is actually happening.

I'm wildly aware of what we could do and what people have done around the world; but those things are not happening here in the US at this time. We have polling and protests about one direction while we actually act in another direction. We aren't stopping the GOP and given them the majority of power in our country. We could stop them, but we haven't done anything over a timeline to make real change.

Bingo! I kept waiting for him to speak french and now I know why.

#10 And yet, when you cook with it the food comes out so much better. Quite the conundrum.

1 day ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Well, you might see something. Americans do love to overreact at the worst times, so maybe those fighting against the GOP will actually do something. But politically, it's unlikely to happen simply because most of our nation is ruled by the GOP. All of the Federal Gov and most of the US states are under their power- and they want what Trump is laying down. Don't forget that the US is very conservative and superstitious, no matter what the polling says.

Not everyone but enough to ruin life.

/Oh and to add, strikes don't really have as much power in the US because we gave up Labor Power as being too commie. Socially, very few groups will actually do anything and the larger population will deride them. So it might seem like lots of people online are upset, the actually upset people are smaller and more centralized in heavily blue districts. Districts that lack power because they are ignoring how US electoral systems work.

I might not have been clear with all of these comments.

history happened in 2003. In 2004, Bush was reelected. Americans like to claim they don't like what's happening, but they won't actually do anything to impact elections. Polling is aspirational. They say they want something, but not if it requires anything out of them. But I digress.

So what we have in America is the people in power, and the voters that support them, doing what they said they would do for the past 50 years. They won elections on this stuff, so Trump is fulfilling their wishes./

Because you are confusing polling with electoral power. The reality in America is that voters make the decisions and if you don't vote (and win) then you don't matter. No matter how much you huff and puff. Why? Because everyone who holds office knows that the regular person (especially the regular nonvoter) will do nothing to make any electoral change. Protests mean nothing if it doesn't win elections. And no anti-war protest has resulted in electoral changes. Largest anti-war protest in US /

I'm guessing English isn't your primary language? Not sure how you'd come to that conclusion otherwise.

My point is that the Republicans are in charge because they won most all the elections. This doesn't mean everyone is a Republicans but that they are the ones in charge, and what Trump is doing, he is doing because the Republicans and all other supporters of their political aims want those things. So those that would stop him, have no power to stop him. And those that can don't want to.

Yeah, it would be funny if the first flight in was the troops and then a few days later the flights with the foods/supplies finally land.

There are dozens of bases in the region to operate out of and the logistics is well established to support an invasion 130 miles across the Gulf. It will still be a massacre of both Iranians and US troops, but we gotta justify all the military spending in some way!

1 day ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do you think that Republicans/et al don't want this? I feel like I have to constantly ask that question because y'all seem to act like Trump is going rogue on this shit. He's literally doing the things the GOP has been trying to do for decades! Have you never heard the satire song "bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran"?

Why does that look familiar? Where is it from?

Yet another example of why humans shouldn't be allowed to get a license so easily, nor never have to renew it without more testing. If we truly started to pass along the massive costs to our society from automobiles to their owners, we would see a huge shift in how many get behind the wheel.

Why does it feel like both images/videos were cut off before their actual end?

1 day ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

I won't defend AI, but it should be recognized that many technologies didn't add anything to the GDP for decades after being developed and funded. Heck, how long was the Internet/Web around before it was actually adding to the economy? It had a massive bubble of spending, which eventually burst; but now the internet is indispensable to the world's economies.

We must be willing to spend resources on risky endeavors if we hope to advance society.

I wish there was a clearer launch date so I could travel to see it. Dammit, Weather, be more predictable!

As a tall person, this definitely looks like a better solution than what is happening now. The ability to sit and not bash my knees against that silly bar in the basket or the table sounds like a step up. Hopefully it has a solid panel that covers the back of the top seat.

Why not post on social media? Heck, imgur is social media, and you're here. The reality is that people like talking to other people. It's one of those human activities that goes on all the time. Sometimes you talk with only the people nearby and sometimes you get to talk to people around the world. I remember the pre-internet era where we were forced to only talk to the people nearby and it sucked.
