you can do most of that in prison except the surfing

Hopefully the boat crashes without a radio. I don't pity the wealthy at all nor feel they're even people anymore. Fuck em.

Nothing wrong with WANTING to have those things. Everything wrong with HAVING those things AND plenty enough to enable that for plenty of others.

Is this from a show or something?

10 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In a just world the average person could have that without being "rich".

14 hours ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It takes a millionaires salary to live a middle class life in America these days, change my mind.

14 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In my surfing days we would work for months to save enough to get to a tropical zone. We lived on the cheap; friends with the locals, helping them with American dollars and the skills we knew in exchange for food & lodging. The rich don’t care, the rich exploit, fuck the rich.

I used to do my best to not be bitter about the existence of rich people. I find myself no longer able to be anything else.

Out of touch

18 hours ago | Likes 109 Dislikes 1

I live in a small surf town in Mexico where so many young gringos live free in their Sprinter vans by the beach, surf, yoga, drugs and talk about becoming real estate agents. We call them Gitanas or gypsies. Always have cash for another tattoo, and beer money, they burden the system by using fire department or free clinic for free medical needs, don't learn the language, shit in the bushes, and bitch about the tourists constantly. Literally this meme!

exactly. #tonedeaf

14 hours ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Of course he has "...zero desire for riches" - because he already has them. Something tells me this guy has never had to decide if he should feed his family or pay the rent.

14 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think this just came out wrong. He means he doesn’t need to be Rolls Royce Diamond Rolex Rich. He could do this without being what we would consider rich. Live in a tiny place, work 2nd/3rd shift, be a really good cook with simple ingredients…

12 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You know this is a fairly common desire. " I want enough money to opt out of Capitalism" kinda makes you think the whole thing is kinda fucked up.

13 hours ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The wealthy are out of touch and need to be brought down to reality

14 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You don't have to be rich to do nothin'

14 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fucking nob

15 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He's a cunt, but I prefer this kind of nepobaby over the kind that's currently raping the world.

14 hours ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

How do you think his nepo-bank accounts get filled?

14 hours ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Meh, there's levels to it. I have no idea who this is, and if he's not personally further raping the world, then he can move to the back of the guillotine queue.

14 hours ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah real rich would be all of this, plus snacking on a little philippino kid while chatting with Jef Jef.

7 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Some people’s trust fund babies, sheesh

18 hours ago | Likes 218 Dislikes 3

Yep. "I just want to live without a job and engage in expensive forms of self-enrichment while living comfortably in an ultra-high cost of living coastal area."

16 hours ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 0

Dude probably lives off a trust fund.

18 hours ago | Likes 83 Dislikes 3

Hear me out: if a rich dude with a trust fund used it to just do that (what he described), and not harm other people or influence our system to concentrate power for himself? I'm good with that. It'd be nice if he tried to help others, but I'll take mostly-neutral existence from the rich any day.

10 hours ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You make a valid point.

7 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

what is the cost of living in his location? what are his monthly expenses?

17 hours ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

What he's describing is actually achievable in places like Thailand and Honduras. Bonus affordable healthcare

11 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Malus high crime rate and worse quality of healthcare.

1 hour ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We could all have this if we didn't live under capitalism.

The only reason only the rich are capable of this is because they decided they own the world and everyone else has to pay them for access.

14 hours ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

It's surprising how little it takes to live like this, as long you don't have a family. Rule #1 of a decent standard of living with little income is to have zero kids and take care of no one else. Plus there is the location issue. Don't live where costs are high. It's a big planet, there are plenty of lower cost options. If you're not rich, then work somewhere expensive (but live frugal), save everything for 6-12 months, then fly to the hidey hole for a 6-12 months.

13 hours ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I kind of understand what they're saying though. Imagine if we had our basic needs provided for and could actually live instead of just surviving. So much of humanity's issues are resolved when everyone has what they need, and can focus their energy on other things.

8 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To be fair the Hawaiians used to live like that before Christianity and capitalism showed up.

14 hours ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Well there's being rich enough to have a carefree, comfortable life, and then there's being rich enough to fuck over huge swathes of the population for the sake of buying another gold plated shitter - AKA billionaires. I don't care that much about the first type when there's the second type running around.

14 hours ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I get what he means though- I don't want to be RICH, I don't want a golden mansion and a bugatti, I don't want the trappings of wealth, I just want to not have to WORK for a living.

12 hours ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I am ok with work but I want longer deadlines, I want more chances to learn and a 3 day weekend to recover.

12 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I am ok with work, I don't want to NEED to do it. I should not have to worry about being homeless should something happen to my job

Mirrormancer is my spirit innerweb person.

14 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

his living expenses might be $10/day, or less than $4000 per year

17 hours ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

I mean most of that sounds like someone that does not work and live in a regular sized home (there is nothing about living in a mansion or drinking expensive wine) Like I could see the Beach not every day but when the weather takes (also where one lives)... Like nothing on that list is super expensive. Like you can eat good and still be cheap the problem is that a lot of good food that is cheap takes time to make and energy and if work robs you of both...Dino Nuggets dinner again.

13 hours ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Hey at least he doesn't wanna be a billionaire and control world politics.

18 hours ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Exactly.

I know a guy who is this kind of rich. He worked his ass off, saved every cent he could, and retired around 2015. Now he paints, surfs, golfs, plays pool, and has no desire to do anything more than relax.

Is he rich? Sure… but more importantly, he’s rich _enough_, which is really what matters.

12 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

True. I would be a lot more ok with billionaires if they were just chilling on their yachts and not buying politicians in both parties and actively destroying the planet in every way they can. Lina Khan style reforms would actually be a godsend for these guys because with those regulations and more in place we won't want to kill all of them the moment we get a chance. And they would still a ton of money.

12 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Talk is cheap. Elon talked about changing the world for the better.

14 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Exactly. Everyone should be this guy's level of rich, to just have their needs taken care of so they can pursue whatever they want in life. I believe most people would still choose to work in order to have more money for extra luxury, and also just to have something to do. I wouldn't though, I love doing nothing and having nothing.

13 hours ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

And I'm including just pursuing education, or playing music, or being a philosopher, or an artist, as kinds of "work" even if those pursuits mostly didn't pay.

13 hours ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

yeah like. I can get behind this kind of ambition. Just wants to be comfortable and at peace, doesn't want the power.

Yes, it's ridiculous in our current systems, but... idk, it seems relatively harmless compared to the billionaires actively working toward their feudal ancap offshore microstates (hi thiel, choke on your own shit plz) or actively funding fascism.

14 hours ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

It's irritating because it's super tone deaf. It's not actively evil.

13 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They want to live like Hawaiians did before we got there and fucked shit up

14 hours ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

You mean like Hawaiian royalty and special class did. The regular Hawaiians had to work and follow the rules of the caste based society or they were made into slaves and workers.

11 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yea, a lot of people are ragging on him, but what he's saying isnt that bad and the only reason this seems so difficult is because capitalism has made most "beach side areas" so expensive. But he basically just wants enough money to drink wine (not that expensive) and "good food" (which is super subjective. This could just mean "fresh home food" which, again, isn't expensive)

12 hours ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Some days I think Danny Kaye was on to something...

17 hours ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You know, there are people who don't think they're rich because they don't even know how much money they have, because they have never had to worry about it.

17 hours ago | Likes 310 Dislikes 0

...which is the exact definition of being rich.

14 hours ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

When I was in college I briefly spent time with a girl who thought she wasn't rich because her parents had much richer friends. She went to a little ivy school (I went to a state University, not the same school) and her parents bought her a car and sent her $400/month for living expenses. I had no car, took out loans, and my best friend and I raided local dorms for returnables for food money.

13 hours ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Funny enough, the same applies to being poor sometimes. I work all day, everyday, don't go out, have no friends. I don't really know how much money I have most of the time because I just never spend it outside of my cost of living. Theoretically, I'm saving up for a house, but I have no ambitions to be a home owner. I just want to get by and be happy. I'm half way there...

8 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Note: I'm not rich. A single medical event would bankrupt me. I'm just talking about the mindset.

8 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There's varying degrees of rich. It all looks the same from when you don't know if you'll make rent this month. But you can make 200k living around DC and still find almost every cent going towards bills. And the dems will be like, we're gonna give everyone 3000 dollars, and you're like, YEAH! And then *if you make under 150k*, and you're like, damn, you need to wake up and smell today's cost of living. Meanwhile, the billionaires still be skating by on no taxes.

10 hours ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Man, the cost of living is so high I can’t afford the apartment I had in college! I’m a full time federal employee and I have to live with my brother.

10 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think the number one thing people need to understand about the class war, is the "top earning income bracket" tax rate doesn't mean anything. Billionaires are not getting a W-2. They aren't getting a salary. They are getting capital gains, and they are very good at pretending they aren't earning money while quadrupling their wealth.

I knew a guy from high school tell me he was the same as me, financially.
What'd you get for a graduation present "$25k from my parents... But that had last me the entire first year of college."
Motherfucker. You have room and board paid for. You have a vehicle paid for by your parents. What the fuck do you need $25k for. Hookers and blow? My graduation gift was $250 and a pamphlet for the army and a McDonald's application. And rent starts on the first of July... It's $250 dollars

14 hours ago | Likes 85 Dislikes 1

I didn’t get anything for graduation except my parents telling me they used my college fund my grandma left me. Anyways I joined the marines a couple years later and now am broken physically and mentally but my college is paid for. Almost have my masters

13 hours ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Did they at least spend it on something good?

12 hours ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ya, it was pretty much that or lose the house. It was during the 08 shit. So I mean whatever. My father had the money to put me through college but he’s one of those “earn it yourself” people. So ya.

5 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

250 dollars a month you say?

14 hours ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Calm your tits. That's a family rate. 20 years ago. And you had to be cool with my dad walking around in his tighty not so whitey underwear

10 hours ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I dated a guy in university who was jealous of me because I was doing it all on my own, whereas his parents bought him a car, was paying his tuition and rent, and was giving him a monthly allowance. I'm like, are you fucking crazy? Do you have any idea how difficult and stressful it is? I told him he should be thanking his parents every day for giving him such a good start. I have a friend who started their career the same time I did, making the same money. She's now got a house paid off, /1

11 hours ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

lake house, boat, etc. My down payment for my house was the same as the entire cost of her house, because she bought hers 15 years earlier because her parents were able to help her. I don't have any of that stuff, just an absolutely fucking massive mortgage. It makes such a difference in life if you get help right at the start. /2

11 hours ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yee I had a friend who went to study french on a schollarship and his room mates dad bought his son a new car for the first day of school, which they left in the parking lot when he finnished a year later and went back home...

14 hours ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

My friends sister owns a house because she knew a rich dude who bought a house to go to school and sold it to her for a song when he graduated and went back home

12 hours ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Ha! You should see what some of the Saudis do. Fuckers would just go buy new luxury cars whenever they got bored.

14 hours ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

I worked at a hotel that had some wealthy Qatar kids visit. They got annoyed that they weren't old enough to drive in the US, so they bought mountain bikes, which were forgotten after 5 minutes and got donated after they went home. Just one example of the how they blew their weekly allowance on impulse purchases.

12 hours ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Yea i was stationed in Qatar a long time ago and when we'd go downtown we'd see cars just left on the side of the highway. When I asked about it, they said they just leave them if they have car troubles and just buy a new one and forget about the other one. Its inherited oil money if youre a citizen but apparently you cant live anywhere else or something if you want to keep it. Not sure the accuracy but idk if being given all that money is worth it since you get bored of it I guess

35 minutes ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You guys got money for graduation?

14 hours ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Not everyone. I considered myself lucky. Money didn't come easy. $250 EXTRA for my parents? That was a blessing.

10 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What’s a graduation?

13 hours ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My brother got a car and a ton of money. I got a pen. Just middle child things.
