Quack, quack, quack.

I realize that DC may not be exactly local, as I gather you're somewhere in VA, but I'm local-ish. Also, I was in Africa last summer!

Yeah! I'm at Johns Hopkins in DC and I have a class on the American defense structure, where my subject is the Marines. BTW, I'm a dudette.

I am both weird and local! Also, I'm doing a project on the Marines (no, seriously, I'm a grad student in defense studies) so we should chat

My mom was a switchboard supervisor when she met my dad, who was her underling. This was in the 80s, though.

I did not that such a person existed, but I am happy to now have that knowledge for nightmare/merriment fuel.

And by extension, Neil Gaiman. I would throw lightning bolts at your friend if I was you.

That's my favorite quote of all time.

There is no need for frowny faces. We are so much cooler than princesses -- we have POWER. And jokes. We also have jokes.

UNH is in Durham, and there's more of the college partying in Durham, while the college grads and others party in Portsmouth.

It's upsetting. Just look at the Dutch -- although they had few holdings, they were the biggest slave traders in the world.

I live in Italy right now, so I've been saying rucola, which is so much easier than arugula but still less cool than rocket.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm from the north of the US. I meant that the British say rocket and the US says arugula. We have more Italian words in the US.

Oh, I'm American. In the US we say arugula. We have a lot more Italian words than the British. Like we say zucchini instead of courgette.

And, at least in the UK, rocket = arugula. I thought it was a type of cheese for about two months.

In fact, more slaves died in the European colonies (esp. Spain and Portugal) than in the US because of sugar production and its toll. 1/2

Several European countries owned slaves in the Caribbean and Africa well into the 19th century. The UK, France, Spain, Portugal, etc.

Slavery was also global. The British, Dutch, Spanish, French, and Portuguese all had massive slave empires in their New World colonies.

Mutually assured destruction requires second-strike capabilities, which I don't think NK has, as they barely have first-strike.

Well, that's rude of them.

God, I miss fish and chips. Italy, why do you do this to me?

How different are American and Canadian Netflixes?

It's a reference to the TV show Alice, from the 70s. Here's a link:

If I wore heels like that (I prefer the more old-fashioned pumps), I would prefer new ones, too.

I would sell the shit out of those. Is there a market for secondhand Louboutins?

I know! But I'd be lying if I said I didn't toss my shoes around after a few drinks.

Emma Thompson can do no wrong.

A few of my friends have been there and they've said it is one of the worst things they have ever smelled, but it's an amazing place.
