I used to have a subscription to OMNI, when I was about 14 yrs old, because I loved sci-fi - until my mom read one of the short stories in it, and deemed it as being too mature.

Same here.... hobbit and LotR 3 times in high school, then went down in flames on Silmarillion. (And I used to read the encyclopedia when I was bored in grade school)

I'm one of us out there - had to even get the cat allergy shots in a separate arm, because I'm exceptionally allergic to them. I found that the shots only delayed my reaction to cats though.... which is something I guess - it bought me time to get away.
