I had no idea that bodega cats were technically illegal.

It's almost automated rat and mouse control. Which is critical in NYC for that 'A' rating.

Yeah, come on. Landlords also sometimes try to ban cats, but nobody takes them seriously either. They are always referring to the unhealthy amount of cats, like 25 upwards or something, not the normal amount. Which is everything below.

I think it should be illegal to NOT own a bodega cat. Or any other kind of cat for that matter! THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER! NOT DJT, BUT CDS.

They actually used the Cheeto Bed Bodega Cat clip, this is amazing!

The purr-fecf way to keep mice and rats away

Bodegatos!

We Americans are so fucking weird about sanitation and pets. Cats are the cleanest animals I've had. Ferrets (though stinky) were close.

As a New York Giants fan, I'm glad the NYG football team is considering legalizing bodega cats. That'll help coalesce Dart and Skattebo's relationship for sure.

Its all fun and games until the cats won't let you get any money out of the ATM.

I'm living in Argentina at the moment. SO MANY businesses have cats. Bakeries, grocery stores, kioskos (mini-marts). Even my local paint store has a cat.

They're usually the ones that get my business. I get paint? I pet a cat. I need potatoes? I pet a cat. New set of glassware? CAT.

Cat tax

Most people don't realize the intense training and rigorous standards which ordinary cats must endure to become Bodega Cats... One doesn't simply wander into a bodega and become a Bodega Cat... first they must be a cat and next they must find the weirdest place to lay down and become part of the scenery... nestled amongst a display of plantain chips or sprawled out on the sliding door of the ice cream freezer... never just sitting there on the floor... ok... sometimes... but with purpose!

"... isn't 'catting' around with..." You know the original copy said 'pussyfooting'. How far we've fallen!

1 week ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

isn't kitten around

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Doubly shameful, we’re also at a point where “catting around” doesn’t mean being slutty all over town anymore? This is a puritanical literacy crisis.

What about the way dogs are treated there?
People are "bagging" their dogs.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 10

So move to NYC, run for office and introduce a bill to save to dogs. Be the change you want to see.

I feel bad for the doggos that are wearing an Ikea Bag.

Cats are cool. Bodega cats are cool. But uh.. .man I just don't want cats on my produce.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I figure my produce has been handled by four-year-old kids, which is basically the same thing, and make sure to wash any produce before using it.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It’s not even a bodega if it doesn’t have a cat. It’s like a temu 7-11

My house cat is a former Bodega cat. Now you know.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Your house is now a bodega.

Not just New York, I've lived in downtown Denver, Kansas City, and Atlanta before and in all three spots got most of my food from a local bodega that always had a cat in it. Where I live now in northern Georgia I can walk to both of my jobs, one of which is a woodshop with a shop cat, and my local gas station/kinda-bodega (more options than most gas stations but doesn't have any produce) has a cat

1 week ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

I've lived in Atlanta for over 50 years, and there's not a single bodega here. Sure, there's places with the name "bodega" in them, but they are not anything like the ones in NYC, where one can get "most of their food" from.

Intown Market, on Decatur St. According to some reviews they don't offer all the same produce options as they used to

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Both my jobs.. both! That's just not right! Hang in there!

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's also not right that I can't get even get a minimum wage job

It also comes with living in BFE, so take your pick

I'd probably avoid any food store which allows animals to wander freely. Not only because of sanitary concerns, but also my allergies (highly allergic to most furry animals). But it's my choice not to enter. If they're happy to have the cats there, fine by me. I've got other options:)

1 week ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

Humans are FAR more unsanitary than cats, but the allergy concern is a valid beef. I'm allergic to some cats, not others, but not too badly.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It makes a lot of sense for a city as large as New York. No, you don't want animals wandering freely through a shop that handles food, but it's better to let a cat do so in order to prevent rodents doing it.

There was an animal feed store in the town I grew up in, handled a huge amount of grain and such. They had a bunch of cats in the warehouse for explicitly that purpose. It was next door to the place I worked, and they'd come up looking for scritches during breaks, it was wonderful.

Oh, I'd imagine. I probably would add that to my list of reasons I couldn't live in NYC:) I imagine city people probably feel the same about my suburban self. I'm aware enough that I know my limits are MY limits, at least. I'd never feel insulted if someone had opinions about the 'burbs. We each like what we like.

Now that NY bodega cats are officially legal, having a cat decal on the door would be a good compromise to warn people with allergies.

1 week ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Indeed! I'm sure there are more of us out there:P Never seems like it, though. ANECDOTALLY: I've heard from others and experienced it myself. People with pet allergies get treated like they're making it up just to be difficult. Even after witnessing me having a full-on allergy attack including watery eyes, getting red in the face, constant sneezing, tons of phlegm.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm one of us out there - had to even get the cat allergy shots in a separate arm, because I'm exceptionally allergic to them. I found that the shots only delayed my reaction to cats though.... which is something I guess - it bought me time to get away.

Yeah, I have about two hours before I go nuclear. Which I think may be what pisses people off? "You were fine for two hours, now the kitties are a problem???!"

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Those symptoms could still turn into anaphylaxis. I have suffered through it many times and it would have killed me if was less fit & healthy. No laughing matter.

Cats should be legal everywhere, just like in Turkey.

1 week ago | Likes 120 Dislikes 5

There is no pest or rodent problem in any city in Turkey.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's the toxoplasmosis speaking

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Cats should be mandatory everywhere. Just like in my head.😻

It would definitely help the rat problem in NY.

Everywhere that doesn't want a wild natural bird or rodent population, that is.

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Store cat should live in the store, not free roam.

We have a tiny knife store that houses several cats. Wanted to buy a bread knife once, was told to come back later as currently a cat was sleeping on the bread knives. No need to say I left the store - and returned later. Who would wake a kitty?

1 week ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

What's the size limit at the tiny knife store?

Cats are the second most devastating invasive species behind human beings..... So no, they shouldn't. Please, please, please, spay and neuter your pets and keep them indoors where they belong.

1 week ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

It's mostly feral cats doing the killing, by a long shot. Most pets are harmless. Anecdotally, only 1 of my 7 cats in life was a killer.

1 week ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

I'd rather have cats than rats.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Rats are also invasive to the Americas, but this wasn't just about NYC, this was about "everywhere"

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I don't give a fuck. I'm not from New York.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That sounds like NYC subway rat talk, you adorable whiskered liar

A world full if Humans and Cats.. I am ok with this

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

How naive you are then....

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

You are right, just Cats. Humans are toxic to the environment.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Agreed. I have stayed that, yes.
