The first step with the sanding, before the stain - is this important for the stain, or did you do this for the poly that would go over it?
I like the way the Gerton desk feels to the touch - I'm worried that I wouldn't like the smooth feel of polyeurethane as much.
I'm definitely interested in staining the wood. Is the polyurethane necessary, if I'm not concerned about the shine?
I know this post is old, but I'm considering doing the same thing to the Gerton top. I have one or two questions.
