Witnessed!
When you grow up in that family and are exposed to those gestures, behavior, etc., how are you ever to learn that this isn't normal human behavior? So you adapt and imitate the behavior patterns that are both encouraged and expected.

They can see the IR light emitted for the camera. Assuming of course that it doesn't stay on permanently. So a light suddenly being turned on gains attention.

I'm partially with you on this. The skull doesn't feel quite right, but I disagree on the bug analogy. I think it has been described somewhere how their bodies are pressurized, so when they are wounded their blood squirts out, harming the attacker. But they do have a skeleton.
This is a great concept. I never played DnD or any Pen and paper but if I were to create a world, mine would definitely include stuff like this! Thanks for sharing <3
