Yeah, I'm an Aussie and it usually takes me around $100~ to fill my tank, it's going to be over $150 the next time i fill up 😥
If you have had your share of mistakes but nobody died from them, it just means you got very lucky, or more importantly the people around you were very lucky that your mistake didn't kill them. This person was massively overloaded if the early discussions are anything to go by, but i think we all need to take a step back and let the investigations run their course without political interference.

In the 80's you'd need a large sample of uncontaminated (fresh as possible) blood, with the tech we have now, you can get a sequence off a 20 year old spec of dried blood under another person's fingernail. That's why cops store evidence for decades.

I live in an off-grid cabin now, the vast majority of my stuff is electric because i have a robust solar+battery system, but i do have a gas bottle for emergencies. I wish more people would investigate non grid-tied solar systems, sure you'll spend $10k+ on the solar and a battery, but it's just so nice to not get bills anymore, especially when you know they'll probably double again in a year or so!
Also, i ended up disconnecting the gas and got an electric hot plate that sat on top of the unused gas ones lol
Yeah, over the last decade, more and more of our bills are loaded into baseline flagfall fees so that it simply doesn't matter how careful you are with your usage. In my last apartment i had a gas connection for a gas stovetop, literally the only gas thing in the whole place and my monthly bills were $30 (broken down as 20 cents of gas used, the rest was connection/flagfall fees). Electricity is the same.
Yeah, it seems like a handful of very inexpensive things could make a world of difference here.
