The current regime is guilty of war crimes & crimes against humanity (among other things) and the GOP has been complicit accessories to those crimes. Now that they see they will end up facing consequences before Trump can eliminate all their opponents some of them are trying to save their own hides by turning on Trump in hopes they get a lighter sentence (or let off the hook entirely). 1/2

while they shouldn't be let off the hook they should be let off lighter, not because anyone should believe they've learned but because we shouldn't discourage the next fascist's sidekicks from turning. they're still scum, but if their selfishness can help make things a little easier for everyone - yes, even if we're talking about problems they caused - i think the wellbeing of the masses and integrity of society are more important than punishing the guilty to the fullest extent

In order for someone to be deserving of a lighter sentence they need to ACTUALLY be remorseful of their actions. And these people are NOT remorseful. How do I know this? Because I survived decades of abuse at the hands of more people than I can count. Enough to culminate in catastrophic harm to myself. I had to become intimately familiar with how the minds people like these work as a survival means. I can say with certainty that these people are not remorseful. 1/2
