That's terrible advice, It is extremely unlikely to get a leak between the tank and the flange, anything that comes up would come out of the flange bolt holes because its not air tight. If it was a sewer leak or break in the wax ring, you'd be able to smell it right away. The sealant around the base is to protect water from going under the toilet from the OUTSIDE, like if the toilet overflows, or you spill water from the bath, or when mopping the floors which is far more likely

aw that sounds like a lovely arrangement. She gets to visit you and rest while being safe, you get some of her affection but she can still wander around freely without being cooped up inside. Sadly, coyotes often wander around our neighborhood and an outdoor cat would be in danger. I kept her inside and contacted her owners because I had seen a coyote running down our street just an hour earlier. She brought much joy for the short time she was here <3
