As someone who went through that in HS, all of them were absolutely worth it. Congrats OP! I know how great it was when I first saw results.

Beautiful eyes.

Going on Accutane was the best thing I ever did. Sure I had nosebleeds everyday but 3 years later and not a single spot in sight!

12 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I love your eyes.

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

As a straight woman, jesus christ those eyes.

12 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 3

Congrats OP, looking great! I would've liked to have seen an after with no make up though, to better evaluate results (especially for guys).

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You really Neville Longbottomed.

I understood that rference.

Them freckles and eyes tho

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I started on the same pills in february, but I'm still getting more and my skin is dry as fuck, but I'm patient. Thanks for the hope, sis.

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I started in December and my skin has seen a huge improvement on only 20mg/day. Dry skin and lips are worth it. Best of luck!

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Its posts like these that make me so happy i documented it (':

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Took accurate for 6 months in high school, dried me out like a raisin but clear skin since.

Thanks (not sarcastic :)

High five for clear face!

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

For the love of God though, do not get pregnant. There are so many birth defects associated with that drug.

12 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Trust me, the doctors tell you. You get a pregnancy test every month and need 2 forms of birth control

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I work in a pharmacy. We have to go through the iPledge program. I'm glad that the doctors are on top of it.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Accutane fucking sucked the 4 months I was on it, but it cleared up 98% of my acne. I only get stress zits now! Totally worth it!

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

i used accutane as well. people say it has a lot of side effects but if you go for check ups these can be avoided so easily.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Sorry it took me so long to respond! I didn't even know that it was being talked about on here too!

12 years ago | Likes 71 Dislikes 3

Nice results! Sorry by the cracked lips ( I do not miss that ).

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Congrats OP! And on behalf of the guys of imgur: DAYUM XD but no, really. It worked out for you, so congrats!

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Aside from now great skin, you have great teeth OP! I had acne/braces in teens, and am all clear/straight-teethed. It is so worth the pain!

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

To all who says that this makes you suicidal, that is extremely rare (less than 1 in 10 000 cases) Talk with your doctor about it, not Imgur

12 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

Everyone is suicidal, think about it.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

This apparent side-effect gets much more attention than it deserves. Skin conditions cause depression, Isotretenoin has helped so many.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm using isotretinoin now. For many, the low risk of side effects are worth it if you can get rid of your acne forever. Scars, oh the scars

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Pleaaaase read up on accutane before thinking about it. It's only for extreme cases! Ask your doctor about Acanya, much more gentle.

12 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 5

I took / used Tretinoin creme

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You have really pretty eyes

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I hear this stuff is really difficult to be put on for women (pregnancy and stuff_

12 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Nope, just have to sign a sheet that you will take birth control while on it. It'll fuck up a fetus something fierce.

12 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

Thanks for the pro-tip

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also women have to get a pregnancy test every month. Everyone gets their blood drawn every month.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah...just don't get pregnant. I was on it when i was like 13 and the doctors pretty much gave me a sex talk.

12 years ago | Likes 93 Dislikes 1

It contains retinoic acid(isotretionin) which is the main controler in early pregnancy, and too much of it could fuck up the fetus big time

12 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

12 years ago (deleted Apr 16, 2014 4:48 PM) | Likes 0 Dislikes 0

it triples the risk of miscarriage, 50% of babies are born with mental retardation, and 25% have serious birth defects

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

hmm 50% + 25% = over 9000% chance of failiure

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

not could, would. There is (from what I've been told) a 100% chance if the baby survives it will be deformed.

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

serious question, say you took accutane as a teen and like 15 years later wanted a kid. would there be a risk of having a deformed child?

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Not at all. The medicine has long since cleared through your system. It's only a risk when you're taking the pills as the fetus is forming.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

okay thank you! good to know as my friend is going to start taking this in a few weeks. it seems like a scary medicine honestly.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's just that the retanoic acid that helps make accutane so effective also majorly interferes with fetal development. But so does alcohol.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No. The problem is the Vitamin A (and their derivatives, like isotrentoin) levels during gestation. It does not alter your eggs.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They put me on the pill when I went on it, pretty sure the glasses, braces and acne rendered that a waste of medicine.

12 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 1

Pretty sure: means there's still a chance.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's ok though, I beat puberty to a bloody pulp in the end and sacrificed it to the gods in exchange for good looks.

12 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

puberty...bloody pulp...*gags*

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yikes. You really escalated the arms race against your penis.

I don't understand all the down votes on this. This is just as great as a weight transformation. Good looking Op

12 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 7

People will down vote just because. (my one good post has lots of down votes) :(

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And there's a ton of people who downvote weight transformations too because that's not what they come to imgur to see. Different strokes.

12 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

as a dude who had super bad acne and also used accutane If i were to make this exact post but with me it would be at -7 ponts in 30 seconds

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Maybe with that attitude, rim job.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I didn't downvote it personally, but I wasn't a fan of this because accutane can be really dangerous w/ side effects.

12 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

Do you put your full name on everything? Lol sorry. It seems weird

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

:( use Facebook to sign it. It does it automatically it's a pain. I have no secret identity

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was on roaccutane/accutane for 9mths and the improvement was nothing less than astounding. Have some side-effects but more than worth it.

12 years ago | Likes 200 Dislikes 2

I was on various antibiotics for 7 years all of which did nothing but destroy my immune system, fuck up my stomach functions, yeast (1/?)

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

infections, and a host of other side effects while doing NOTHING for my skin, I spent my whole teens depressed and self concious, (2/?)

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

coming home from school with blood on my shirt (as a girl with back + chest acne, it's usually boys). Roaccutane gave me my life back.(3/3)

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I was on it for 3 weeks and got tinnitus. Hasn't gone away yet. My skin wasn't even THAT bad. Sadly, it's not for everyone. Be careful.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Same here. My nose still bleeds every month or so, but I have no regrets.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

can you share the side effects

12 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Not in 140 characters, lol.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dry lips, more delicate skin, a few blood noses and some rash due to skin dryness in some places (fixed with ointment)

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, we want some side effects too!

12 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

The severe depression could just be a placebo effect, because when starting it, that's one thing they have to stress, because of the media

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Mainly gastrointestinal. Severe depression too. Most studies haven't confirmed a link but these side effects have definitely been noted.

12 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Don't forget having skin as dry as the Sahara desert!

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I also took accutane for 6 months. The side effects were, dry skin all over, dry nose and eyes, joint pain and suicidal thoughts. Worth it.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I also had to get blood work done every month to see if I had any abnormalities. I am a healthy male with no previous complications.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It can affect liver function, causes sensitivity to sunlight, dry skin and lips and damages unborn fetus, but the side effects vary hugely.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Women are not allowed to use accutane without birth control I believe.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, and in some countries you have to sign a waiver to abort should you become pregnant while on it.

Just think about the person with acne. they typically will lower self esteem and sometimes bullied because of it.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There is a correlation, but that does not imply causation, which the media doesn't understand.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Honestly, I think they commit suicide from the acne. But I am not a doctor or a scientist. Just had bad acne once in my life.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For those wondering what I'm talking about: http://www.webmd.com/drugs/drug-6661-accutane+oral.aspx

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Years ago, when I was looking into accutane, people on forums described how the pill changed their behavior. I didn't know about the cream.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As someone who was on accutane, it wouldn't surprise me. It does some nasty shit to your thoughts. Hence why for some dosages you need (1/2)

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

To certify that you don't have thoughts of self harm. Accutane is rough (2/2)

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It was shown that there was a correlation between those taking roaccutane and instances of depression, but it was never proven to be (1/2)

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

causal. And if you think how much acne affects self esteem it's understandable that this might be the case. It was worth it for me. (2/2)

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Veeeerry much doubt it. Surely it would take more than just a cream to put suicidal thoughts in your head....

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Accutane is a pill. It's been known to cause depression in some patients.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Okay, don't want to sound rude, but sauce? (I study this kinda thing, so naturally I'm skeptical about causation).

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

By the way, I just looked this up in my textbook, and it says that isotretinoin is also applied topically in the case of severe acne...

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

hard to say that for sure. I took accutane btw.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To all of you asking about my side effects: cracked lips, bloody noses, joint pain, muscle cramping, and a rash(due to dryness).

As someone who grew up with acne, I know exactly how you feel now that it is gone. So happy for you OP! Go be confident in life :)

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

pardon my pigishness but sooo worth it

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I still can't see at night and I stopped taking it about 3 years ago.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It works amazing but please have your liver checked. I was on this myself & knew a friend that was as well that suffered major side effects

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You have to get a blood test every month for your liver or your doctor won't prescribe it

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ah good, I only was required to have it once after I was done using it, this was like 10 years ago though. Good to know!

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh hey, I've had that. Not from medication, I'm just an asshole so people just beat the shit out of me all the time.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That shit murdered the bacteria causing the pimples though

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Side effects? Don't forget the Inbox full of messages... ;-) You look great OP! Good for you.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a previous Accutane user and someone with pre-existing mental stuff, be aware of your thoughts and feelings and speak up!

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

was on this 3 years ago, don't drink while you're on it- you get violent mood swings! I now get the odd spot but nothing worrying. congrats!

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You forgot extreme beauty. Although, you were still pretty before, too.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Brings back memories - I had to go through two trials of the stuff before I started to clear up. Acne blows.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

also I found regular chemical peels worked for me because I had bad acne/scarring on my pale skin. peels help to get rid of the red marks

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh man.. Looks awesome OP. I was on accutane for 6 months and had the worst side effects. In the end it was worth it!

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

just dont get prego!

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

FRECKLES UNITE!!!!! always love your freckles.

12 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I live in a place with a high Asian population and people are always questioning why I don't have my freckles removed! I like them!

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I used Roacutane at school, best thing ever

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Accutane gave me Crohn's Disease…but hey I have clear skin...

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

you have beautiful eyes OP!!.. :-*

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

aww thanks!

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The best thing your treatment did was give you your smile back :)

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So glad this worked out for you, not because you were not beautiful before, because you were, but the pain that comes with severe acne.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was recomended rocutane by my doctor which was stronger and has a less chance of having side effects

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

What are the side effects of being a total babe?

12 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Hey OP. I've completed 1½ month(Isotretinoin as well) and I'm struggling with the dryness which has caused several rashes. Any suggestions?

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

when I got my rashes I would put either aquaphor or Vaseline on it super thick, if you keep up with it they will go away

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I took this stuff and you'd never expect it by my eyelids would be flakey in the morning for like 2 years after. Scary stuff

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Worst side effect, it ups cholesterol.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Was on similar drugs a couple of years ago. Had the exact same side effects, and unfortunately I think the joint pain stayed..

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dear OP - Congrats! On the increase of confidence, happiness, and raise in self esteem displayed in the pictures. Me = Cystic Acne sufferer.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My dermatologist suggested accutane for me, but i'm real hesitant about it.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There's a lot more than that please watch out. It causes some really bad stuff that it doesn't say.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Congrats! Never heard anything good bout accutane before. Happy for your clear skin and that you're not a malformed fetus! :)

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I too took accutane and was told not to get pregnant everyday...but I never got a dunder mifflin shirt.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

also I am a man....accutane is a hell of a drug

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

hey op - wanna go on a date?

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'd love to try that, but I heard you have to get blood drawn every two months (or at least, I would). Did you need to do this?

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I used something that i had to use for just 2 months. But still i have like a little acne on the sides, do you still have It sometimes?

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

if you stop the treatment does the acne come back

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I took Acutane about 13 years ago. The worst side effect to me was the first couple nights with an itchy scalp. (You look great, BTW!)

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I used this stuff, god the pain from those side effects!

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was on acutane 4 years ago and currently have no negative symptoms and clear skin. Totally worth it.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I was on this twice, and my acne still came back, remember to clean your face every night, good to see the results, congrats.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I took it for 8 months, and I got really lucky. My worst symptom was the zombie lips

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was on the test trials for that in the 80s, worked so well but yeah those side effects were a downside. Congrats on clearing up!

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I took the same thing a few years ago, it changed my life. Congrats on the clear face!

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Accutane was maybe the best decision my teen self ever made. Good job OP. You look great.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Same here, mine was this bad and came in college. Not going outside for 6 months was worth it.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was put on Roaccutane for far too long, one round of 6 months, one round of three, when I was 16. Talk about side effects, but results!

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

those were mine as well. I find it tough to imagine suicidal tendencies, extreme depression, etc... must've been pre-existing.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But isn't it amazing to be able to look people in the eye without worrying about your skin? Accutane is a blessing and a curse.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

did you experience any mood swings? My brother was on accutane, and he seemed to get kind of irritable. just curious

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Congrats on sticking it through! I had a pretty bad case, too. The thing that pushed me over the edge to try Accutane was the constant (1/2)

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

commentary from the public, as if it was always the first thing they noticed. "Oh, your acne! Have you tried..." Yes. Yes I have. Go away.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You're very pretty either way, OP. Just to let you know that. Oh, and pretty eyes.

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

To me this was both a blessing and a curse. My humor turned into shit, lost GF, quit college, urge to an hero. But at least my skin is ok =/

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Side effects also include nice eyes!

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're beautiful! I was on this for 8 months, 8 horrible months.Just a heads up, don't freak if you get one or two pimples every so often :)

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You look beautiful OP. Great to see your smile!

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My girlfriend took roaccutane for 8 months, well done for getting through. Hard but well worth it, you look great :)

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

daaaaaaaaaang op is attractive! haha

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Isn't that the drug that causes a whole lot of problems?

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Severity of the side-effects are unique to individuals. I had dry skin, some hair loss and such. Nothing else, acne has not come back.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My ex was using this and it can cause a lot of issues with your down stairs. He had to stop because he had issues.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Acutane is a miracle. I did the same thing. But it's only for the worst cases, and monitoring is essential.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

did you feel it was worth it?

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Im on it right now as well and its so fuckin worth it. Sure its kinda uncomfortable during it but the final product is amazing.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Try hot yoga 3 times a week: it cleanses the skin, detoxifies, balances hormones, lifts mood. It can help reduce or eliminate medication.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

idk why you got downvoted for this but yoga requires physical activity and im lazy as FUCK

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

and pretty face. don't forget pretty face

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

ENJOY CONSTANT DRYEYE FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. I took that shit and it fucked up my eyes p.bad

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

That sucks but myself/any of my friends who were on accutane (quite a few) didn't experience that, so she probably won't either

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ouch. At least you have the consolation of being frickin' beautiful. You realize now you'll be beating guys off left and right?

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I took accutane, and I sitll have side effect issues and it's been almost 10 years... but no acne I guess..

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Try tea tree oil! It's natural and it doesn't have any side effects.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I used the same medisin, but shit, yours really fucking worked good (from Norway)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I already have 2 of those due to life sucks haha. I almost wish my acne was bad enough to warrant using it, ya know?

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Acne.org. I've been using their stuff for 5 1/2 years and it is AWESOME. I was never bad enough for accutane and the side effects are scary.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

hey, thanks, i'll check it out!

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You have to be diligent about it and really follow what they say. Go to the forums and find user halon02. They had a good progress.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Holy shit! There was a smokin' hottie under there! Congratulations on sticking to it and getting real results!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You forgot: No healing, sunburning in less than five minutes, generally feeling like shit...potentially massive, suicidal depression.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Remember to take good care of your skin in the sun. I did two rounds of accutane and my skin is still super sun sensitive ~5 years later.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That sounds about right. I took the stuff for quite a while due to massive acne on my shoulders. It's not -awful-, at least.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And a chance to get pregnant 95% of the time with a miscarriage! Holy missed details.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I went through this too, yes the lips, oh God the lips. did wonders though, fantastic stuff, worth it all.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was on this stuff too! Had the same exact symptoms and it sucked but in the end it was totally worth it

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i had the same side effects - and was on it 6 months, but it made the WORLD of difference. Glad it worked for you too, enjoy clear skin!

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The acne may be a reaction to gluten or soy. If you need to get off accutane, see a good allergist.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

And if i ask you about your age ?

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

18

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Obligatory "are you single" inquiry.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i did not thought that you would answer ... so i guess this akward conversation will stop here .. damn i suck at talking to girls ...

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The same happened to me. Minus the looking so beautiful part. I'm an acquired taste in appearance

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The things we sacrifice for superficial beauty. Though your pimples looked like they hurt, I can empathize with painful acne :/

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wow OP, congratulations on tackling the acne beast. I suffered with acne for years until I completely changed me diet.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What about your diet did you change? I've got pretty bad acne and I don't want to use accutane

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

1. No soda. This was tough because I went down from 5-6 a day to maybe 1 a month. 2. No fast food. I honestly don't remember the last 1/2

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

time I have been to McDonalds or KFC (especially stay away from fried foods.) 3. No more chips. Yeah. This was hard. I mean hot cheetos 2/3

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

are kinda the best thing ever but no nutritional value at all. 4. Limit your sodium input. So, that ramen seasoning had to go away. These 3/4

I've made 6 months of roaccutane 20 years ago, nothing remains as side effects. Don't let unknown and non experimented people scare you.

12 years ago | Likes 70 Dislikes 6

also you not having side effects doesn't say anything. "I fell from a bridge once and survived, you should try it too!" -.- (2/2)

12 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 5

You were fortunate. I've had bloody noses for 15 years. I can't blow my nose without fear. (1/2)

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

My second daugther is 7 and her nose bleed very frequently. She never took roaccutane.

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

My only salvation has been my BiPap with humidification for sleep apnea. It prevents dry out. I've dreamed of cauterizing for years. (2/2)

I don't know how a company withdrawing a product from the market due to unwanted side-effects is "unknown and non experimented people" (1/2)

Companies want to keep their reputation. Regardless if there is any truth at all in the statement, people still believe it.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Its for the same reason vaccine companies removed thermosil, even though there was no evidence to say it was bad in the doses given.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Feel your pain... Went through it myself :) did you experience depression at all? That was my biggest side effect

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Try hot yoga 3 times a week: it cleanses the skin, detoxifies, balances hormones, lifts mood. It can help reduce or eliminate medication.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Correlation does not imply causation. It could have been the process and a mental reaction to the drug's effects rather than the drug itself

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

it's a known side effect

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

No, it's a reported side effect which hasn't actually been proven to have any correlation, much less causation.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

wow, talk about arguing for the sake of arguing. you must be great to have around at parties.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Accutane does hinders mitotic development in fetuses (causing major defects). But they probably give warnings prior to prescription.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

oh do they ever!!!!!!

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My sister took this stuff and it did wonders for her! She said the symptoms were worth the clear skin! Happy for you!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can't forget about the sensitivity to sun light. That and the cracked lips were the worst. But it gets the job done.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Congrats on sticking with it though. As much as it can suck while you're on it, the reward is worth it.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

my wife had accutane for 7 mos.. you really need a good support at home and work to go through it.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know, worth it in the end though. Talking from experience.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i took it 10 years ago, and it is amazing, apparently depression can be a side effect, but damn girl you gorgeous

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah you missed some, I was on Accutane myself in high school and at actually triggered a depressive episode which almost ended in suicide.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Shit, it*

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

she might just be listing side effects she had herself, Accutane didn't make me depressed.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Apologies, my comment was unclear, I'm aware she may have been informing of side effects on herself (1)

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I just meant to say that there exists the possible side effect of triggering clinical depression, just so people are aware in case. (2)

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As someone who used Accutane, it saved my sanity and skin; it's a godsend. Acne is still around but 100% manageable. Good for you, lass!

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm on it now, about to finish my fifth month, such an amazing difference but the side effects are terrible. Congrats on being done!

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just be careful how long you're on it; my mom was on it and it gave her Crohn's disease. But you look fantastic, you really do! :)

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One of the best natural ways to heal acne is hot yoga 3 times a week: it constantly cleanses your skin, balances your hormones, etc

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

How on earth would hot yoga balance your hormones. Have you been drinking the homoeopathy all natural diluted koolaid?

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Any exercise balances hormones actually. I am pretty well educated in that area. I think it's worse to think that a pill has a better chance

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

no, actually it's a fact. Read the book called 'spark'

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I use a version of the tretinoin gel at 28 at it's still great. My skin sometimes gets dry still and I recommend the Neutrogina face lotion

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Congrats in any regard. I know the pain of acne myself.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

why the fuck do people want to go through that to take this horrible medication stuff?? ugh.. I'm sorry. You do look great though :D

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

Getting rid of acne is a huge confidence booster and also makes you physically feel a lot better (acne itches). The side effects are worthit

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I had no side effects of accutane other than dry/easily sunburnt skin... same with my sister and brother... way worth it if you ask me

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I just finished up mine, and all I had were chapped lips.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hey, if you want to lower your dosage and actually have positive side effects- try hot yoga 3 times a week. It will work like magic. Promise

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Well, at least you can honestly say you earned your beauty.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Yeah, I used this years ago. I once ran out of chapstick in school, went room to room until a teacher lent me some.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

+1 for a fellow accutane success story!

Those seem rather intense. How prevalent were those effects?

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was on it for 6 months and only experienced very dry skin, only lasted until I was off it for around a month. Depends on the person though

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i had the same experience. i worked in a warehouse that summer and hands got SUPER dry/cracked. but 6 mnths later, acne was gone

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My boyfriend was on a generic of accutane. I hated his side effects and I felt bad, but it worked wonders.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I took it during the time when they withdrew it here in Canada after the lawsuit temporarily. ugh, oh well.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was on this for 10 months. The bloody noses and ingrown finger nails were the worst. Every nail. But it was totally worth it in the end.

do you know how much zits fucking hurt?

12 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

all are common besides the joint and muscle pain

12 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Just finishing up my own treatment with this. Gotta say, it wasn't as bad as they made it sound.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I had joint and muscle pain as well, especially towards the end. Scared me, but so worth it.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Same here, was the worst about 2 weeks after starting it then subsided mostly.

I took isotretinoin too (last month atm, 9th but half the dose (from 30 mg to 15)) and great result too. Only cracked lips as side effect.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

As someone who works in a dermatology clinic, don't forget your questionnaire on iPledge OP so we can activate your prescription. :p

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't need it any more!

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh you're done great! Kudos to your doctor for doing an amazing job treating you.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

accutane saved my skin in high school.i definitely had some slight depression as a side effect but it went away almost as soon as i finished

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hey OP, check out this other girls post. She used honey and seems to work. Might be better for you than acutane /a/rpVBw

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As someone who has been on accutane, they try literally everything else before prescribing it to you. Its for worst case acne and I 1/2

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

highly doubt honey would help. What that honey girl was on- minocycline- is typically the very first thing they try. 2/2

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nah, I had moderate acne, requested accutane at my first visit to a dermatologist and he prescribed it the next month.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well maybe its different in different places, but I know here (Canada) you had to try lots else or have a family history

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You look great! Well done for sticking with it! I'm on tetracycline and it does take a whole for the clarity to kick in but I can't wait!

12 years ago | Likes 150 Dislikes 0

Also, I believe they arent making tetracycline anymore, ask your doc about it.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I just refilled my prescription a couple of weeks ago, so unless they're using up a backlogged supply its still around

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lymecycline here, just started it, looking forward to (hopefully) seeing some results finally.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had an appointment with my doctor yesterday and he said it will really start kicking in around the 6 month mark..

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Still a while to wait but I'm still glad to be doing something about it.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not to be offensive or whateverthehell, but isn't that a birth control?

12 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 3

No problem, it's similar to the birth control pill in the way that it affects the skin but the two can be taken together.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

You're thinking about Ortho Tri-cyclen. I requested a prescription once. I'm a dude.

12 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

YESSSSS, thank you.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

i believe you're thinking of tri-cyclen. that one is a birth control pill

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Used to treat infections, including Lyme Disease.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just to inform, tetracycline is an antibiotic. If it is really used as a birth control, i reeeeally need to update my knowledge.

12 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Tetracycline is definitely not a birth control. In fact, oral antibiotics can actually make oral contraceptive less effective.

12 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

also, if you did not know, do not get waxed. the use of accutane makes it so that when you wax, your skin can tear.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It ended up giving me my Chapstick addiction. But eh, my acne's nowhere near as bad as it used to be.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Same. But I gave in and tried it again at 34 ... and this time it worked! Who knows? Don't give up <3

12 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I'm 36 and am just finishing my first month of my 3rd course of Accutane, I truly hope it works this time.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Most likely because you are now getting adult acne rather than just going through puberty.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I did it at 15 (too early imo) i tried it now at 22 and its stayed away for a year now, try it again seeing as ur not in puberty.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i had the same thing happen. They are putting me back on accutane in a month.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

My acne returned a few years later too, but not as severe as before.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also possible liver failure and crohns disease

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And there is another drug called tetracycline which is better than accutane and by that I mean less harsh.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Only problem is tetracycline has a far worse success rate. And it the acne usually comes back.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When I stated better I simply meant it's less harsh on the body. I didn't mean it works better than accutane. This is what my doctor stated.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah and typically they make you try that before accutane.. didn't work for me at all

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Any evidence to support the claim it's 'better than accutane'?

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Having been on both, tetracycline isn't "better" - at least not for everyone. It didn't help my acne even a little bit.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I tried tetracycline and it didn't work :/

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hey, OP. I just wanted to suggest maybe talking to your doctor about taking a milk thistle supplement. Many people say accutane (1/2)

12 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 4

isn't great for the liver, so milk thistle will add a bit of extra protection.

12 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

you have to get your blood tested every month you're on it to check on your liver

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So I took this in high school and got contacted for a class action lawsuit because apparently it REALLY effed some people's intestines up??

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, a friend of mine developed Crohn's as a result of taking Accutane.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's the one! This was a couple years ago, I'm floored it's still being prescribed!

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My loose understanding is that it was taken off the market in the US, but is still available as "roaccutane" in Europe.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Huh. Wikipedia says no, but I still agree with you.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Additionally, Roche's patents expired, so there are now generic versions of it (Isotretinoin) on the market.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Accutane has a SHIT TON OF SIDE EFFECTS. Everyone I've known on it has had serious complications. Do research before even thinking about it.

12 years ago | Likes 312 Dislikes 46

Was on it for a month. It made my hair start falling out so I stopped but it sure makes acne go away. Luckily mine got much better with age.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

My dermatologist was always peering at me and asking 'you're not depressed are you?' and I'd answer 'Only a bit because my skin is bad!'

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It caused me to get a life-threatening MRSA infection due to the cracking in my skin/lips from the dryness :/

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

While on it for 6 months I had terribly dry skin, nose bleeds, and depression. But I'm not bein sarcastic when I say it was totally worth it

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I've made 6 month of roaccutane when I was adoscent. I'm now 40, mother of 3 healthy children. Don't spread fear when caution is enough.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

You should read the side effects of Aspirin. Every drug has a slim chance of something horrible.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The most benign medications will fuck you up. Hell, vitamins can do some serious shit.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not eating dairy helped me

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I was on it for about three months and I had no issues, other than a little drier lips than usual.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was on it for 7 months and I had none whatsoever.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

I've tried it and it literally didn't help my skin at all.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The worst side effect is unresponsivenipples

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

I used it for 6 months without any side-affect, apart from dry skin. But that just meant I never had to wash my hair or change the sheets :P

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My boyfriend at the time took Accutane and it made him have severe back problems, loss of interest in hobbies, and severe anger issues. 1/2

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

and before and after Accutane he didn't have any of those problems. Definitely research first.

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The two I experienced with acne was IBS & balding (bc so dry = hair starts falling out) but nothing major (cont)

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

(would've been worse if I was male bc MBT) my hair started falling out in clumps after my 6th month when i finally got off it and it (cont)

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

took about 2 months for regrowth to happen. unfortunate w/e. i regret it because my acne was hormonal and it didnt help permanently anyway

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had it and suffered terribly with mildly dry skin. The horror

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Most of them aren't side effects, they're the main effect of the medication. Your dermatologist should inform you of the expectations.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It is NEVER a bad idea to encourage people to do thorough research before taking a drug like this. I don't get some of the responses here.

12 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 4

Yes, but the above comment comes off more as fear mongering than advice.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was on strict diet, 2 forms of bc +abstinence, blood tested monthly and on suicide "awareness." For 2 years. But no more zits...mostly

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not the side effects WHILE taking Accutane that are dangerous, it's in the years after that they can manifest. 1/2

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It's been 15 years since I've finished Accutane. I got kidney stones 3 times 3-5 years post, and developed food allergies at age 23. 2/2

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sorry to hear that. Have these been definitely linked to your accutane use?

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*Accutane can have... I had no side effects except a severe lack of pimples

12 years ago | Likes 124 Dislikes 4

Same here. But then again, now six years later I have a special kind of acne-reducing contraception pill, otherwise I still get pimples..

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Accutane essentially "pushes back" when you get acne for a few years. Generally, by the time you reach the point when accutane (1/2)

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

pushed back your acne, you are over the time when you will get it, so you never get acne again. Other times, especially if you take (2/3)

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

young, you are still vulnerable to acne when the you reach that point, so acne can flare up again.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*Pulls out pimple inducing cream* - Don't worry sir, I can help with that.

12 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

yeah nothing happened to me at all besides losing all my nasty acne

12 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Likewise - wasn't even aware it had side effects except for my dry-ass face. Totally worth it.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As someone who suffered almost all of them, accutane sucks balls. Switch to oil steaming (castor and sunflower) and honey masks.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I took it and I had no permanent side effects. Just dries you out really bad while on it, but that's the whole point of the drug.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had dry skin, dry lips, and tat's it!

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I did the treatment twice and only had dry skin and dry eyes. It works, people shouldn't be scared to take it.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

For most the side effects are worth not living your life with acne.

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

*potential side affects

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I honestly didn't have a single problem with it. Obviously the dry skin was annoying but that was about it

12 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

a star athlete in the high school next to mine committed suicide while on Accutane. His temperment change while on it was drastic. Be safe.

^^ THIS! My brother took it, and has some serious health issues that his doctor attributes to the accutane. (1/2)

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I saw him recently, he looks like skeletor, and he carries around a list of 'safe foods' that is single laminated piece of paper.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's important to know what you're getting into. I know a girl who lost her vision temporarily and my other friend was just dried out. (1)

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My doctor wanted to throw me on it but I didn't feel right since my acne wasn't THAT bad. I had to wait until I was 23 for everything to (2)

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

finally clear up but really.. You just have to look into things and do what's right by you. (3)

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And most people aren't put on it until every other route has been exhausted because of this, and not everyone experiences the side effects.

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As someone who had to stop after 3 weeks do to an absurdly rare side effect (0.01% tinnitus) just listen to your body. GTFO if needed.

12 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It dries everything out so badly, that I had 7 cavities afterwards. And I take care of my teeth.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I had 2 separate doses of Accutane and had zero side effects both times. Huzzah for clear skin!!!!!

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I took it as well as my two other siblings and we never had serious complications or severe symptoms. They test you before prescribing it

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

the #1 concern with accutane is that it fucks up your liver, very toxic substance and your liver has a lot of work to do to detoxify it

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

yea theres always gonna be the unlucky ones. Guy in my shop took it years ago. hes 28 now and has Irritable Bowel Syndrome cuz of it.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

How does he know for sure that's what caused it? Not arguing, genuinely interested as I took it 9 years ago.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Well he says thats the only medication he was on and that's when it started so the doc chalked it up to a side effect of it, that sucks :(

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Are you having symptoms of this too or just concerned you might develop it? Cuz for him it started while he was on it

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ah, ok, I thought it was something that developed later on in life but was attributed to it. Thanks for the response!

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

not a problem :) meds are some scary stuff, we can only hope we are not the unlucky ones when we take em I guess

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I knew someone who took it in high school.. she's now 25, and has been dealing with chrones for 3 years. No family history of digestive..

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

..disorders, and that's been the only medication she'd ever been on up until her chrones issues.. I've seen a lot of people saying the same

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've known a bunch of people, including myself, who have taken it... the only side-effect I had was really dry lips that peeled

Yes same as me. I took it twice and had none of the awful side effects.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

yeah they can be pretty bad a few can include suicidal thoughts, nose bleeds and rectal bleeding (bleeding while taking a dump) and (1/2)

12 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

girls cant get pregnant as the baby will suffer some serious deformities. (2/2)

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It does not increase the chances of oregnancy but you have to agree to use two firms of bc due to high risk for birth defects.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mobile user typos

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I laugh at the fact that you felt the need to explain "rectal bleeding"

12 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

well some people might not get what i mean

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I remember a post here about using raw honey instead of accutane with similar effects.

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

accutane is for severe cases, this girl was borderline on taking it. I had severe cystic acne, no honey in the world's gunna cure that

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

People ask our doctor, with 35+ years in practice about this all the time. It's not harmful, but it's not gonna do anything either.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I used raw honey for a year before accutane. Results weren't even close to similar :(

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah suicidal thoughts not the best side effect.

12 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 8

Being a teen or young adult who is unhappy with their appearance has a far higher correlation to suicide than accutane

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Sometimes homicidal ones too

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I honestly think the suicidal thoughts are linked to the condition, not accutane. I was suicidal when my acne hit me; it's horrible.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

try hair loss, if you a dude then you will get the chance at some point. I've had both, lucky me!!

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was diagnosed with severe depression before starting accutane and had no psychological complications while on it.

12 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Severe depressive thoughts are already more common in teens with bad acne, though. The physical side effects are much more deterring, (1/2)

12 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

This makes sense. I'd expect a strong correlation even if the drug didn't cause depression. I'm not sure if causation has been proven.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I agree, I was on Accutane and it only improved my mood. I was severely depressed before due to the acne not the medication.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I think it'd be weird NOT to have suicidal thoughts once in a while

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

It is not normal to think about offing yourself, sorry to say. Most have a strong desire to continue life as long as possible and fear death

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You should see a professional. That's not good at all.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Actually it's normal. The bad part is when you start to plan out your suicide.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

No. Suicidal ideation is not normal.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Suicidal thoughts can also be brought on by depression, which can be caused by having your face covered in acne. Correlation != causation.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Depression is linked to the medication also. Ive taken it. Dont do the correlation causation stuff when its a warning on the bottle.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My experience was that it was coming from the meds. It caused a personality change while taking it which went away when I stopped.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1463189/ Linked yes, but causation still hasn't been proven by scientific standards.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Everyone I've known on it has loved it and is glad they took it.

12 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 7

Probably because of how miserable they were with acne. It causes a plethora of other permanent side effects, but people will take the trade.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm glad I took it but the side effects are still terrible. Waking up every day with your back feeling like it was trampled is not fun.

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I remember a bit of back pain, but then I got to fire an old Mosin-Nagant rifle from WWII and I swear it went away that night.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yeah, but at least in canada, it's even more strictly regulated to get prescribed to women, though it is used as a last resort for everyone

But these are rare. Look at the rare side effects of Aspirin: Bleeding of the Stomach or Intestines, Seizures, Trouble Breathing. . .

Suicidal thoughts have never been proven to be caused by accutane. It's typically associated with just having acne, not taking the medicine.

I knew a guy who was on it who couldn't go out in the sun for more than like 2 minutes because he would get burnt very very quickly, 1/2

and you can't drink alcohol while on it either, but I don't know why that is. 2/2

I'd say more than just warned. It's on every little piece of paper they give you, apparently causes EXTREME birth defects.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Accutane kills oil creating cells... so anything that comes along with dryness EVERYWHERE.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All my friends had suicidal inclinations, one had loss of hair, one started an eating disorder, another vomited blood and became anemic...

12 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

I highly doubt that every single one of your friends took accutane.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

lol I've known about 5 people who've taken it, and they all had something bad happen. Different dermatologists even!

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

That doesn't mean accutane is the cause of it.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh my goodness! How terrible. I never would've known

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In the nicest possible way, sounds like you were friends with a group who lost the genetics race.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

I'd agree with you if I didn't know that they were all successful human beings and stuff. Accutane just really didn't work well for them.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Haha, purely joking. I only meant it about the acne thing.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's a horrible thing to say. A start athlete in the HS next to mine committed suicide while on it. His temperment changed lotswhile on it

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That doesn't mean accutane is the cause. There is a higher correlation of having acne to depression, than there is to accutane.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i've heard that every 'orifice' gets severely dried up.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Smh that's some scaryass shit.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

the #1 concern with accutane is that it fucks up your liver, very toxic substance and your liver has a lot of work to do to detoxify it

12 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

That's why your doctor is suppose to look at your blood samples once a month to monitor your liver health.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What the heck! That's scary! How do people not know about this?!

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They do. They're legally required to give you a folder with a bunch of papers plastered with warning labels. A lot of medications (1/)

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

are toxic to the liver in high doses, because that's what processes them. Accutane just has a lot more potential side effects. (2/2)

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

They do. A lot of drugs are pretty toxic. It's just if the side effects/complications are worth it.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

they do, you do blood tests once a month while on accutane to watch the liver

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They are not linked to accutane. Of course people with acne are typically going to be depressed and moody.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks doc. Coming from personal experience (took it x2), the depression/anger is definitely coming from the meds. I'd do it again though.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

its under rare side effects, I guess im just special :)

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I assume by "increased liver function test" they mean high AST/ALT. What poor wording!

12 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

My textbooks use the same wording. LFT is the liver panel, AST, ALT, bili, etc. Just means the LFT results are higher than the baseline data

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a college freshman still with acne, this gives me hope =D

12 years ago | Likes 711 Dislikes 8

i took it for about a year, and still get acne maybe not as bad as it would've been though, i also had to stop because my health. be careful

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Hey I was on it for 7 months and nothing but good things. High hopes man!

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I found Accutaine very helpful, the downside is that it dries our your skin and you have to be watched for depression, it changed my mood.

12 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

but just a little.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I never had acne until I started uni, 4 years later it won't go away!

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

you should try a high dose of vitamin c say 1000mg a day its 10 times the recomended daily but its safe (2000mg is when it becomes unsafe)

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do not take this shit unless it is a last, last, last resort.

12 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 2

Agreed, I know people who developed Bi-Polar disorder as a consequence of this. (Not entirely caused by accutane but triggered by it.)

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Duac once daily gel with a combo of antibiotics worked a charm for me.Had severe acne since I was 13 and now at 19 I'm finally acne free! :)

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm 23 and I think my hormones are leveling out because my cramps and acne are both calming down. I never had really bad acne, thank god.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i'm 24 and still get bad breakouts :(

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

same but i'm 23. clumps of pimples all over my face :( I do everything i can to stop it and these keep popping up so i now take meds. ugh.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

it's not fair :(

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Considering whether to try this medication. She's clearing wearing make up in after pictures though! I'm self conscious about scars too..

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

I still need to scrub my face and use benzoyl peroxide nightly. But my skin has improved a LOT starting slowly around 25. I am 27 now.

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

That regimen used to do do very little. Now it is enough to keep me virtually clear. And missing a night doesn't ruin me for weeks anymore.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I'm a sophomore and I still have some acne it is no fun.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm 29 and still get breakouts, but nothing like this. I battle mine using the Oil Cleansing Method. You look beautiful, OP!

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm 25 and still have it. My mom is over 50 and still gets some (but it's not that bad even though she claims it is)

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yay, wait, no! My mom just turned 50 and she still gets some acne too

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is the kind of reason I'm currently studying a pharmaceutical related subject. That plus the hundies i'm hopefully going to be stacking

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm 35 and still have acne. It doesn't really ever go away, just lessens in severity.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Random brought me here. I started Accutane as a freshman in college. I HIGHLY recommend it. It really helped me out. Did you try it out?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Try using a clean towel on your pillow every night. There was a big hooha on Reddit yrs ago about it being like a miracle cure.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

try getting powdered sulfur and put it on your face before bed. may not solve the problem but its a strong antibacterial that wont dry 1)

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

or harm your skin. I use it cut 50/50 with mineral veil from bare minerals, which helps absorb extra oil for my "backne" works great 2)

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

as long as you are consistent 3)

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My friend went on accutane her freshman year but she was still beautiful. Don't worry. :) she looks like Taylor Swift!

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In all seriousness, one tip, do not ever touch your face, ever, not with a towel or anything, let it air dry after showers. I am serious.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have a basket of clean washcloths on my bathroom counter. :) I use a clean one each time to pat dry my face. Huge decrease in breakouts!

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do you mean don't pick? Otherwise I

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The NHS made me have 12 months of this, I got all the side effects but it didn't actually help.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I read somewhere (likely on here) that if you put runny honey on your face for 20 mins a day it can also work. Will research this.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pretty sure i read it had to be raw honey. Not really sure if that actual works or not. "Life hacks" on the internet are hit or miss...

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

... mostly the latter though.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Raw honey would make sense actually, hmmmz!

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't drink if/when you're taking accutane and stay out of the sun. For reals.

12 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

Thanks. What does drinking do?

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Acutane is metablozed by the liver. Alcohol messes with these liver enzymes so the two should not be combined.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've been warned to not drink, so i'm gonna start my course in the summer when i'm far away from alcohol and then i'll only go 3 months w/o

12 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Be aware that the standard duration for accutane is 6 months, and that is 6 months of extremely flaky skin (despite heavy moisturization)

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I can make an album of how I got control over my adult acne, if anyone wanted to know. It doesn't involve accutane though.
