Too bad the world has gone to such shit that a movie of this quality could never be made today.

I never thought I'd downvote blazing saddles, but your title is so "butthurt white guy" that I think I have to.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

I mean, they sure used the N word a lot in D'Jango

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Down voting for the stupid title. South Park movie, etc.

9 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 7

Don't get the title. This sort of satire/"offensive" humor is still very much a part of our culture. Key & Peele for example.

9 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 0

This is far from the edgiest example in the movie. South Park does worse almost every week.

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Oh, once again posting Blazing Saddles, saying they could never do it today. Aren't we edgy?

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

We can't use the D word, it might trigger someone.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ah, shut your trap. If anyone dared make a racially charged movie, you'd be calling it "SJW horseshit" or something.

9 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 7

Oh ffs. Ever heard of south park?

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

Oh hush you heckler. Everyone understands historical accuracy, even the sjw.

9 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 10

I finally get to say it. I'M RELEVANT!

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Is anyone else sick of seeing "XYZ could NEVER be made today!!!"

9 years ago | Likes 127 Dislikes 9

In this one instance I'm inclined to say it's true. Not for being too risqué, but because much of the talent is no longer around.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes. The irony being that these people are getting offended by people being offended by this stuff.

9 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 3

Comments like these could never be made today

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I've seen so many of them, that I am even sick of the comments that say they are sick of those!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You think there's no funny comedies now, or are you just sad that you can't call black people niggers anymore? Hint: it wasn't funny before.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

The world is significantly better for people now than it was in the 70s

9 years ago | Likes 100 Dislikes 6

Yep, getting rid of communism was really a step in the right direction. But we can always improve.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

Yeah, but it seems like people in the 70s had more awareness that things were getting better.

9 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 7

These days, people under 50 or so have just read about Jim Crow laws, lynchings, that kind of thing. People over 50 remember it firsthand.

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

this. and remember kids of all races, saying "yes, sir, no, sir" to a cop isn't buckling under - it's just good sense.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

WTF stick is up your ass @OP?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Hey, where all the white women at??

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You know, i think you just want to hear and say racist things without being called a racist, but thats none of my business

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Excuse me while I whip this out

9 years ago | Likes 535 Dislikes 3

Local radio station uses that sound clip. I can hear it perfectly. Hearing voices in your head is so wild.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 1

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

So true! Tarantino's movies are way less sensitive. Saddles was done all tongue-in-cheek with caricatured stereotypes.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

YOU PUT THOSE WORDS RIGHT BACK IN HIS FINGERTIPS RIGHT NOW, SomeCrazyNerd!

Adam Sandler made Ridiculous Six, similar over the top offensive western, it just sucked.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Adam Sandler hasn't been funny since the Wedding Singer

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I kinda agree, but then this movie really did emphasize on the racial jokes. Not 100% it'd get by production today.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Django Unchained didn't emphasize on the racial jokes? Did you watch the film? o.o

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Aye. Django wasn't exactly a comedy unless you laugh at violence. The two feel pretty different, at least to me.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Shh! You'll offend all the people who think that people are too sensitive these days.

"Virginia schools ban 'To Kill a Mockingbird,' 'Huckleberry Finn' for racial slurs" -- This is why people think it wouldn't get made. =/

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Schools ban things from children. That's normal. We're talking about a film available to the general public.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Nothing normal about censorship.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Books have been getting banned for the past I dunno, ever? Stop acting like its new

Nah dude, didn't you hear?! The world is totally going to shit!

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

damn Es-Jews are ruining the world

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It wouldn't be made not b/c of SJWs but b/c greedy studio heads would never greenlight an original script like this.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

"Greedy studio heads" would green light it in a second if they could be reasonably sure it would make money

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Comedies don't these days so this movie would be difficult to make especially since it'd probably be NC-17 today.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Honestly, the only gag in the entire movie that doesn't work as well today is the fourth-wall breaking chase scene at the end. Other 1/x

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

than that? Yeah, it'd be fine. And that's speaking as someone most folks who use "SJW" as a slur would consider to be an SJW. 2/2

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

damn Es-Jews

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Racially charged humor is not the same as being racist. The rule of thumb is it has to be more funny than it is offensive.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

LMAO didn't this lame-ass OP nigga see Django or something?

9 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 4

Came down here to say the exact same thing. Clearly OP doesn't watch many films.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

@oldasballs did you see Django Unchained?

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

Or are you just a dream of Dolores?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That would actually be pretty neat

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A student at my alma mater recently told me Blazing Saddles is racist. Upon further questioning, it turned out he hadn't actually seen it.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Hence, racist. Ever notice that? Hmmm, interesting.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Richard Pryor was a major screenplay contributor and would have starred in it if he hadn't unfortunately set himself on fire while on drugs

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The way I heard it, the studio wanted to recast because Pryor was uninsurable, and Brooks threatened to cancel the film, (1)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

but Pryor was like "we can't cancel, I need the money" so they cast Cleavon Little instead. And he did a good job. (2)

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

So am I. Maybe Mel is waiting for where he left off to be far, far away in time.... or he is still in contract negotiations with Yogurt.

Or Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Supposedly Brooks was in talks to make another Spaceballs film, but I haven't heard any new developments.

Tarenteno could do it.

9 years ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 8

Tarantino is exploitation, Brooks is satire.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

Have you considered that maybe you just don't get Tarantino's humor?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I never said there was no humor. Just different presentation.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah it's definitely presented differently but I totally see most of his movies as satirizing the genre.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

OK fair enough. Brooks is societal satire while Tarantino is entertainment satire.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sure he could. Except that 75% of the humor would be replaced with fake blood, the word fuck, and a gratuitous shot of woman's feet.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Indeed. If he honestly pulled off a true comedy, it would be great. But he wouldn't.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dave Chapelle not only could, but he would, and not a damn person today would have an argument of merit.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

No, no he couldn't

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't think there is that much fake blood on the whole planet.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Just borrow some from the Evil Dead set

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I love Tarantino but good god the man has a fetish for blood and feet. He's like some disgusting swamp leech you find back home in Orleans.

But it wouldn't be funny

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 7

It would, but not like that.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I would fucking love if QT directed the scene when they fight all through the studio

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Lol I could just imagine it looking like the crazy 88 fight scene from Kill Bill. That would be awesome.

As long as it doesn't stop such films being made and distributed, who the hell cares if some are pissed off?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I was surprised I didn't hear more outrage over the "blackface" thing. It was just that good.

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

It also wasn't blackface in the historical sense.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

I think the context helps. A lot of the more outlandish things in the movie were a criticism of how Hollywood treats black actors.

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

I remember now, someone pointed out that all of the racists in Blazing Saddles were villains or the "simple" townsfolk.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He won an Oscar for that role didn't he?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nominated. Heath Ledger won that year for playing The Joker in The Dark Knight. [themoreyouknow.gif]

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

See that racism? The guy wearing blackface lost to the guy wearing whiteface.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Because it wasn't done for the sake of being racist.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Hmm, more things than you think are done for comedic purposes and such but get lambasted. Point me towards somthing was done intentional.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

It was just that good. Also, could be because a jewish guy directed the film and they actually run most of hollywood, wasn't whitey did it.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

And if this statement gets downvoted or attacked my statement isn't w/out some grain of truth. Can't knock the real meal ticket.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Most American Jews are white...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Unorthodox, non-practicing and of usually half-mix. But, most identify as Jewish (non-white). Ben Shapiro elaborates on this.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

... So the Jew-run media was behind all of this?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

So they don't run hollywood? Such a liberal institution did blackface..whyyyy wasn't there backlash? I posit same w/ Blazing Saddles maybe.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Oh my god, I don't care

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The movie was supper risky back then even Mel Brooks said that they went too far several times but that he regretted nothing

9 years ago | Likes 394 Dislikes 3

I yet cant find the name of the movie

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Could be, user name... sorry, your user name compelled me...YOUR USER NAME COMPELLED ME! To reply as if answering a question...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"we went too far and I regret nothing" does sound like something Mel Brooks would say.

9 years ago | Likes 176 Dislikes 0

Because HE HAD BALLS! And would've went up against the studio if he felt that what was being attacked merited defending.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

He had SPACEBALLS!!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Indeed. Most definitely.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

richard pryor was a writer for the movie and was the one that pushed the language and racist jokes.

9 years ago | Likes 58 Dislikes 1

That's neat to know. The racist terms were always (I felt) to make a point. Just watched Bad Santa 2, what a piece of trash; the movie.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

They heard from the real Hedy Lamarr before release. Mel Brooks said she had entertained us for years and to "pay her whatever she wants."

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

When this came out, I had to go to the theater and see this movie twice. The first time I was laughing so hard I couldn't hear the dialogue.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

One of the scenes cut was when Kahn asks if all black men are gifted and light out she says "it's true it's true" 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

He then says "I'd hate to disappoint you ma'am but you're sucking on my arm." 2/2

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

The last part is the part that's cut, only half the times I've seen it have I heard the "hate to dissapoint" part. The gifted part is always

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It might be there actually. Been a few years.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The flatulent camp scene was a bit much

9 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 0

That was one of the greatest moment in cinema history, and I'll fight anyone who says it isn't.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And I'd have your back. First time I saw that I could hardly breath... because of the laughing. What were you thinking?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I disagree. Flatulence IS and ALWAYS will be FUNNY. This is part of maledom. Although... Smell-O-Vision would have pushed it further...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It's part of humankind. Farts are funny. Why gender it and exclude half the people from enjoying it?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Agreed. My daughter thinks it's a riot when she has one rip out... wonder if having two older brothers plays a factor...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Maledom eh?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

apparently, olden times broadcast tv muted it, so it looked like a "silent ballet" as the guys rose off their seats or lifted a leg.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

One of the basic cable channels (ABC family?) shows it like that. So disappointing.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice that. It always breaks my heart.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To be fair Mel Brooks' Silent Movie is also amazing.
