Paul Verhoeven's three Hollywood sci-fi action movies (Robocop, Total Recall, Starship Troopers) are incredibly intelligent and incisive satire on American culture, media, the action movie genre, while also being three of the greatest sci-fi action films in their own right. Wit and perfection of the craft like that comes along so rarely it's worth watching no matter your misgivings.
I always felt that, as sad as it was, it ended at the right time. It would have been spoiled by continuation.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off isn't about Ferris. It's about Cameron, and a little bit about Jeanie. Ferris isn't a character - he's part force of nature, part omniscient narrator. His role in the movie is to put Cameron into the situations where Cameron can develop, grow and actualise his own self and intent. If Ferris faced any consequences it would be almost completely a different movie that isn't about Cameron. Ferris is more like a benevolent trickster god from mythology.
