Mariska Hargitay almost starred in "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: The Movie" (Wayback in 1995). Just a few years before her career-making role on "Law & Order: SVU"

Gabrielle Fitzpatrick was originally cast in the role of Dulcea, but at the last minute had to drop out to undergo surgery. Hargitay was called in to replace her. She filmed a bunch of scenes, but then filming got behind schedule and Hargitay had to leave Australia to get home for Christmas back in the states. Unbeknownst to Mariska, she had been fired by the filmmakers (apparently they were scrooges or something and didn't like her leaving for the holidays). They brought Fitzpatrick back onto the film after she recovered from surgery.

Part of the scenes Mariska filmed included an annoying ant-eater comic relief character (thankfully cut from the final film)

Remember what they took from us.

"She filmed a bunch of scenes" Don't suppose you could share any of this film? Just for historical accuracy of course.

Yeah, but my growing obsession with Australian women would never have survived that year.

The only thing missing when Ice T gives the street name for things. In this case, detective stabler would say “the internet?” And then Ice T would be like “Yah. Some folks are calling it ‘The Dark Web’.”

I just looked at the photos first and almost Mandela Effected her into the movie. Weird how the brain can do that.

Man I love MMPR: The Movie. I don't care how silly the dialogue is or how bad the visuals have aged. I LOVED this movie when I was a kid and every time I think about it now, I still get the happy glow in my brain. Ivan Ooze was an incredibly entertaining villain who effortlessly wove both hammy acting with malice.

I re-watched it recently, and for most of the movie I was like, "dang, this isn't shit at all!" But then the CGI zords showed up. Ruined the whole thing.

I loved how trashy the cgi was. You just gotta treat the zord fight like an episode of Beast Wars was spliced into your Power Rangers movie.

Do you remember the TNT promos for Law and Order back in 2004ish? Jerry Orbach talking about the doink doink was my favorite. And that Seal song, "there has been no one righter than you."

No. I hear "doink doink" and I cab only think of Pete Davidson as Chad.

TBH, I think this was better for her in the long run. I think she would have been typecast as Hot Babe after this role.

She's not that hot.

Geez I hope things worked out for her....

It's so funny when shit like this, which I'm sure feels horrible for actors at the time, ends up working out so well for their career.s Like imagine if The Sarah Connor Chronicles had got another season and Lena Headey ended up filming that instead of getting Game of Thrones.

You're not kidding. I just looked at the dates and besides a couple of films she went right from Sarah Connor straight to Game of Thrones.

Depends how another season of TSCC wouldve been compared to the back half of GoT... TSCC is the only worthwhile entry to the franchise besides the first two movies. I certainly have less fondness and more animus overall towards GoT at this point... A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a lot better than Dark Fury tho.

Call me mean, but i guess she would have diminished her chances to get the gig with SVU if she landed that Power Ranger role.

5 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I don't know what she was doing prior to that but I could see a network suit/casting director looking past an actor upon seeing something like that on there. It's stupid, yes, but the whole industry is pretty fucked up.

Power Rangers as a whole has been a huge talent sink, it probably would have torpedoed her as well. Some of those actors were legitimately good actors despite the horrid scripts and barely acceptable storylines (and note, I say this as someone who actually *likes* this damn show!) but having your name on that project typecasts you faster than religious TV does. Unlike other kid-centric TV of the time, no actor who started out with PR has ever managed to make it out from under that shadow.
