I think you might be shocked by the conditions there
I am pretty sure most adults in the 60's thought hippies dressed like 10 year olds.
Because they grew up to be our elders and we associate this style with being mature. By comparison, many 60's adults wore full suits.

I have met several people with noticeable disfigurements, its something they aren't ashamed of, but they are also aware....
I understand this comment is supposed to be empowering, but it could imply that you are bad/weak if you can't get over what others see.
Its not high-minded, but I think it is COMPLETELY UNDERSTANDABLE to be fearful of displaying a disfigurement in public.
undergo a 2nd surgery, they were inexplicably anxious. Their vital signs leading into a subsequent procedure would be elevated.
My father was an Anesthesiologist. Oftentimes, he said, people had no conscious memory of invasive procedures, but if they had to (1/2)
