Mostly just stubborn. When properly motivated (you have food), they are fairly attentive and intelligent.
A spider crawled out of one of these after I was halfway through eating it when I was little. Got a whole new ice cream. It was awesome.
Basset hounds are very heavy for their size, even when not overweight (heavy bone structure), and so they really just can't jump very high.
