I always upvote source. (And contemplate downvoting when one isn't given (Although I never do (Also this is starting to look like lisp)))
Yeah, that's one of the few things I think LLMs would be a good fit for - train it on all entertainment you can get your hands on, and get a search engine for finding media based on vague recollections. I've tried it once or twice when looking for eg. a specific Calvin & Hobbes strip, but unfortunately, every time so far my experience has been that it just doesn't work.
My first thought was https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRZ2Sh5-XuM - what with the stairs and all.
As a Finn, the mispronunciation was expected, but the "University of Aalto" caught me off guard - there's no city called "Aalto" -- it's the name of the university (so "Aalto University")
Probably not. (Source: I once tried using a lead test kit on leaded solder, and it didn't indicate)
Eh, the only place where I see US news is Imgur, and so far the only thing I've seen from the left has been loud cheering.
...I think one of us has memory problems. I mean, that's what I *hoped* would happen, but instead, I seem to vividly recall thinking "oh fer fecks sake" when Biden took office, and yet Imgur continued bursting at the seams of posts going "Trump this, Trump that". Will it ever end? Some will undoubtedly say "when he's dead", but I learned my lesson the last time - no, I think Imgur will be 90% "Trump this, Trump that" even decades after he's dead.
it depends! specifically, it depends on the technology the monitor uses - LCDs work by having a big backlight that's always on, adjusting the amount of light that each pixel lets through -- so even if the pixels go dark, the energy used by the backlight doesn't change (though I imagine some screens might dim the backlight if there are no bright pixels anywhere on the screen). there might be less lighting calculations though, which might save some electricity, but that depends, too. (on the game)
Yeah, exactly what I was thinking! Our fridge opens the opposite way, and I'm right handed, so I just... open the fridge with my left hand. ~~MAGIC~~
(At the very moment, I have one package that's been stuck in place for a month now with no updates - customs got cleared, status changed to "Item has been released for delivery" / "The parcel is on it's way", and after that it's just been stuck, presumably at the airport it arrived in)
The Finnish postal service used to be the paragon of reliability, but as with everything else, it's gone down the shitter; nowadays they deliver mail only every other day, shipping within the country often takes longer than other shipping companies would take for international shipping, packages can get stuck for months, any reimbursements are practically nonexistent, and I'm not sure if there are *any* actual postal offices left that still exist - I certainly haven't seen one in years.
Non-Fry Stick Pan
"Survivable"? Hell, most Finns will voluntarily and [uncharacteristically] excitedly/happily spend time at such temperatures, often many times a week. (Though the exact temperature varies; Some people prefer 100C, others a chilly 70C) Even babies aren't exempt, though obviously you don't keep them in there as long as children/adults. (...and you probably wouldn't use a quite 100C sauna with babies and/or would keep them lower)
!!! Do want! (I'm not in the USA, but I'd assume nowadays the availability of basic Japanese ingredients outside of Japan is pretty much the same in most places)
They are. When Japanese recipes have "人参 (M)" for "Carrot (Medium)", I need to write down "Carrot (MASSIVE)". I've *never* seen carrots that big in real life. If I manage to find *HUGE* carrots by local standards, I still need to add 2-3 of them if a Japanese recipe calls for one medium carrot!! (Also, plz link good Japanese recipes!)
And it's usually just basically a wrapper for your visa/mastercard, so even if they weren't, visa/mastercard could probably get them to fall in line pretty easily, like they did with valve...
(And in any case: Visa/Mastercard operate in Sweden, and they did force Steam to remove a bunch of NSFW games (most of which probably were Steam-only, I'd guess), so clearly they had a say in what you can buy, even in Sweden.)
Since international payment processing is such an essential service, and Visa/Mastercard(/Paypal) are essentially a monopoly - I mean, everyone basically has to support them if they want to sell something internationally, and them having the ability to unilaterally shut down global sales of things they don't like on a whim is... disturbing to say the least; EU (and others) should definitely try to craft something analoguous to net neutrality for payment processors.
I mean, that's how it *should* be, but I doubt that's how it is, even in Sweden. By which I mean, companies probably aren't required to provide their services to everyone who wants them (ie. if you think eg. of a contractor, they're free to choose what jobs to do, and they couldn't do an unlimited amount of jobs in any case), they can select who they enter contracts with, and so Visa/Mastercard can just decide not do business with someone who sells something they don't like.
Even if you link directly to the image URL, when other people open the link, nowadays Imgur will redirect them to the page view the first time. (Doesn't do it on your link, because people reading this have already recently opened the page containing it, but you can try eg. https:// i.imgur.com/NEBgO8w.jpeg )
...what?? 40GB was standard in 2002, I had a 200GB drive by late 2003 or early 2004, and a total of over 1TB in drives by 2005-2006. (And for the record, I double-checked our local computer shop selection from archive.org - all the pre-built computers had 40GB or more, and most of the disks in the selection were larger than 40GB, with only a single disk smaller than 40GB [20GB, which was priced almost identically to the 40GB drives])
Not misheard in this case, but the only way I can ever *remember* the lyrics at the start of "Lady Madonna" is "Lady Madonna, sitting in a tree". (Though I must note I don't think I've ever heard the original by The Beatles, only the cover by the a capella group The Swingle Singers - comparing just now, the rhythm seems to be quite different, and my alternate lyrics fit into the cover version rhythm better than the original version rhythm)
Blueberries are big, green inside, bland-tasting, and the bushes can grow over a meter tall and yield 10L of berries from a single bush. Bilberries are smaller, purple inside (and stain very easily), have a much more vivid taste, and the bushes are usually ~30cm tall. Blueberries are usually farmed, while bilberries are picked from forests. And there is no such thing as a huckleberry - as in, it isn't a single thing, but a name used for various different small red/blue/black berries.

I'm pretty sure this isn't the original, though; I distinctly remember Rule 41 being "Needs More Desu. No exceptions." - Pretty sure some spoilsport just rewrote it at some point after getting fed up.
#14 Well that's a long way to phrase "Today I forgot monkeys and such exist for a moment"
"What do you mean 'the wrong bridge'?! You wrote 'the left one'! [...] Well how was I supposed to know which side of the river you were standing on when you wrote that?!"
Jurassic Park and Coneheads.
Can confirm. When I was little, I expected to take a swig of coffee, but it was coca cola - and to be clear, I like coca cola *way* more than I like coffee, but for a few glorious seconds I thought I was probably gonna die because the coffee tasted absolutely horrible and was "clearly" beyond spoiled.
"Can lift 20kg effortlessly but will immediately stop for your hand and back up" == "Will stop for your hand until the sensor breaks"
