Growing up in the Cuban ex-pat community 'Castro is dead' was one that would happen every 2-3 years. It was always fake until it wasn't.

*Especially* with clear guidance ahead of time that says that legitimate law enforcement will not be masked or secretive.

I don't care what flavor the baby is, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't survive the procedure.

Apt, I think to describe the general attitude in response to 'why are you tearing down your own community?'

Closer to 'knock hockey' as there are many pieces on the table at once and it's a turn-taking game rather than simultaneous defense of a single piece.

Is there a source for who compiled this. There's a really huge gap in there that should get filled in more if possible

This is why I put the `/s`, to ward from that. I'm not old enough to see Ultra Porn yet.

'Magic Crystal' with Cynthia Rothrock. It's actually quite good. She's a world class martial artist in various weapons styles to my understanding. The movie has her as a detective getting wrapped up in an ET-ish plot with a little boy finding a sentient magic crystal.

WAT?! Who shoved a baby up someone's asshole? /s

They won't. Imgur doesn't *have* to be any different just because people want it. But if it's not going to be any different why would the content creators stay? What motivation does any user have to participate in it? To not burn it to the ground?

Also they had *years* to do anything for community engagement and every action taken was merely to dismantle it.

That's not a requirement. Many (perhaps most) private and/or small companies (like imgur was prior to being sold) will to many degrees prioritize their product/service/brand image over profit.

'The company did it' is really just the thinnest excuse for the worst people to indulge in their personal greed. Well, and when you buy into becoming a 'publicly traded' company then the motivates are skewed to profit by the wall street machine.

That's the problem. Nobody does.

AI/algorithmically mangled at that. It takes the quote from GhostTater and wibbles it around attributing it to a fake user 'ghosttic'

Do note how low the view counts are on most of the posts compared to what regular posts would have. Increased engagement from a small segment of the total user base that is already very active should pale in comparison to the lost engagement from casual users who don't see cats/memes/whatnot and just go elsewhere.

Why would you want to open imgur in public just to see blackout squares?

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A good 'why' is because such things attract John Oliver

What'll be really big is when FYBD starts getting into the 'Explore Posts'. The grievances is already there, so it'll just be a matter of time.

Naw, that's probably Voyager since Tuvok is there. Janeway had them do all sorts of weird shit. /s

7 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ah, yea, on web you can. And it makes upvoting all of them in usersub much easier.

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think that just reflects users upvoting without opening the post. It was my understanding (possibly wrong) that the views were only if you actually open the post, but you can up/down just from the browsing interface.

"Millenials are killing the imgur business" It's not the responsibility of the users to make the site profitable. That is entirely on their end. Previous management did so for over a decade, and through community outreach quelled the mobs and ensured complaints were addressed.

The current owners have decided to dump all that in favor of profits. That's their prerogative, but it doesn't mean we have any obligation to continue supporting the site.

Demand better from its owners. You're asking people in a picket line striking outside of a business to take pity on the customers.

Do you think imgur spontaneously generates its content? Do you imagine that those posting in protest otherwise never contribute? If the content creators and user sub filterers of imgur were against this, then the site would look just as it always does.

That is the point for a lot of people. They don't want to see imgur remain a bloated zombie corpse while it's killer profits from the preceding decade+ of community work. Instead, blow it up entirely to send a message about the perils of enshittification.
