I made the doors using a hollowed out door frame with LED lights laid out evenly inside, then I put a layer of thick plexi glass as the front, I covered the plexiglass in vinyl and painted that vinyl to match my walls and then used crafting knives to cut out the design so the light can shine through, then painted over the design so it sortof looks invisible until the light turns on. The doors only light up when approached, im planning on having them automatically open when u say melon as well

I basically got 2 30x80 doors, took the front off and cleaned out the guts, layered it a reflective sheet and FCOB LEDs, then used an industrial grade glue to secure a thick sheet of plexiglass (kinda like a shadowbox), the plexiglass weighs more than the door itself so i made sure to use the right glue lool

sherwin-williams emerald urethane trim enamel, i needed something that would bond well to the vinyl I had over the plexiglass, needed a paint that wouldnt peal eathier and is a bit flexible

Years ago on this site, I saw a DIY project that I loved so much, I promised myself once I own a house i will do something like it but better, instead of one door im going to do 2 and have them as movie accurate as I can. Finally, more than a decade later, here it is!
