Was literally having a convo with a work mate at the weekend who has an Indian wife and goes to India a fair bit, we were discussing how to avoid getting ill and I shit you not he literally said he just sits and drinks whiskey with his father in law every time and he’s fine.

I get that, if it helps I have 0 qualifications and have embedded myself into this industry. Most jobs will give tech tests as you probably know, just tailor your CV to specific jobs that you fancy, build up a GitHub if projects you’re proud of and go from there. Do Google, Meta etc. (even though they’re fucking toxic companies) not have easy routes in for interns or juniors nowadays?
It’s rough man, you’re right too the market at the minute (at least in the UK) is a bit rough. Frontend you’ll be able to pick up way quicker, React still rules strong but Vue has its place and people are really loving all the frameworks, Next, Remix blah blah, and honestly it’s a good time to get into that stuff. Job wise you’re best trying to get a placement or a junior position but you probably know this already - ecomm agencies are a really good starting point if they still exist at scale…

AI tools aren’t even doing that much, it’s the new “thing” but engineers aren’t replaceable…yet at least. What are you interested in man? My best advice is pick things YOU want to build and just build them, doesn’t matter how good or bad they are, keeps going and improving, put it all on a GitHub and build up a solid foundation/evidential group of stuff. With ChatGPT/Cursor etc it’s a million times easier nowadays but make sure you get the basics down still.

Someone commented on a post a few days ago about redesigning the architecture and rebuilding again…I’m a software engineer (have been for 20 years) and I would certainly chip in.
