Thanks. Dad was too proud or stubborn to ever acknowledge it was happening, even despite doctor diagnosis. Also never set up a will or power of attorney...there were just beneficiaries for the insurance as only direction without a will.

Valid question... dad left Canada prior to my birth, living in the Caribbean and abroad. I didn't meet him until I was 3, but we grew to have a relationship. My half brother and I are very close... and yeah, dad had made lots of interesting decisions in his life, I think five wives over the years. He was with the last one for a few years prior to "marriage". Honestly she deserves some of the estate and that was the plan. They had a hired nurse for the last two years. Messy AF, yeah?
Good point... I apologize for not adding enough detail. Got married while suffering from dementia to a woman in Mexico.
No different than having someone bring you an electric battery to start your gas engine when your battery has died
