Israel is a conscription state. All citizens are required to serve. Some don't want to, but it's not a choice they can avoid. My closest friend is Jewish and has family in Israel, his cousin chose to stay in the military and was killed randomly by a Palestinian 20 years ago for just existing. The world is different over there and I don't condone anyone's choices, but some of them have no choice but to be involved and do as they're told.

I know a guy who owned a jewelry store in the 80s. Once lab grown diamonds became a things he sold, because lab grown vs natural is the same as ice in the Arctic vs ice from your freezer.

A handcuffed suspect was in the back of a police car. An acorn fell on the roof of the car and the cop thought it was a gunshot and opened fire.

A friend used to own a jewelry store. If you ask him about lab made diamonds his immediate response is, do you use lab made ice in your drinks or do you have it imported from the Arctic? Personally, I use ice from the freezer with water I had on hand.

Pretty common in Massachusetts, they get night, weekend, and holiday differential pay. Most departments here do require a 2 year degree AFAIK, bachelor's and master's are guaranteed pay raises, 15% for bachelor's and 10% for master's IIRC

https://www.covanta.com/what-we-do/waste-to-energy it's a little bit more involved. I learned about this at the mystic aquarium in Connecticut, they had a really interesting exhibit about moving trash from the ocean to incinerators for energy.

I watched one of those land with the gear up at Bagram Air Base in 2008. Looked like a comet had touched down on the runway.

It's not all guns and war. It's generators, meals when chow halls are getting renovated, painters, plumbers, HVAC techs, all in the local area of the base/office. It's an enormous amount of money, but truly the only trickle down method of economics that works. The DoD sets a priority on awarding contracts to small businesses, especially those owned by women and disabled veterans. It's not just Lockheed and Raytheon getting paid.

We rescued our pup a few months ago thinking he was mostly a lab. Turns out he's more Chihuahua than he is lab, but his strongest genes were Belgium Malinois (35%). Doesn't really matter, dogs are the best and rescuing them saves lives.
