I once got to the train station to find Frankfurt-Berlin was 250 euros... so I'm not surprised. I ended up using Blablacar, shit's awesome

Avoid the beginning of the summer, May and Juin it rains a lot. If your are into the outdoors there are beautiful national parks.

It's beautiful in the winter too if you don't mind -20C and colder. Excellent ski hills, winter carnival. A lot less tourists!
No, more than 20C. July is the sunniest, warmest month, goes up to 30C sometimes. Plus there is Festival d'été de Québec!
