Let me just start off by saying I've been using Imgur for almost 6 full years now. I freaking love(ed) this website. So simple, and the best part is you guys as a community. Compared to other sites of similar nature, you guys have to have some of the best users ever. People I feel like I can connect to very easily. We have so many inside jokes, so many creative (and not so creative) people at our hands. And although there's always going to be assholes on the internet, it feels like we band together much more than others.

Now if I may continue on with my focus here, Imgur is an INTERNET website. As in, the same league as 9gag, Facebook, Tubmlr, 4Chan, Reddit, and many many other websites. Regulations are low on the internet as a whole, so companies of websites create their own regulations to make people happy. But guess what? These regulations are fine on most of these websites.
Wanna post a picture of your tits and vag, with a buttplug in your hole? Reddit will allow it right there, extremely easily. Just go to one of their subreddits that ONLY people who have requested access to, get access to, and have agreed that they are 18 and over. No one sees it unless they want to. You have to seek it out to turn it on and it is not accessible defaultly.

This level of content management controlled by the user is one of the reasons that websites like this are so popular. You subscribe only to what you want to see, and that's all you'll see.

"Mature" filter.

Imgur has a strict "no-nudity" policy on their website. And we get that. But as consumers of their website, users were upset at the control they had (or didn't have).

Front Page (especially User Submitted) had/has a lot of content on there that could have, and probably has, offended people in many ways. Whether you're at work, at school, maybe your kid is watching you scroll through Imgur, maybe you're underage so you know you shouldn't be looking at "mature" content.

So Imgur created this filter where, if you go into your settings and turn it off, via USER'S DISCRETION you will see content marked as "mature" by submitters.

So they listened to us. Sort of. Not really.

So you would think now; "Finally they listened to us! We can post 'MATURE' content without worrying about people seeing it if they don't want to!"

Wrong.

When I heard about this change in the settings, I immediately turned it on. I did not want my content filtered out because of any reason.

At first everything was ok, but then things started to turn. People would post pictures of nude women, and although to the AVERAGE HUMAN BEING, that would be considered "MATURE", Imgur was deleting these posts and BANNING the users who posted them. Although somewhat reasonable to their unreasonable policy, it doesn't stop there.

Let's go back a bit more. For as long as I've had an account on Imgur, I have had no qualms with posting a source to, for example, a girl *about* to pull her top off, but it cuts right before then. Humans are curious creatures, even if it's just a pair of boobs, the unknown is just something we want to know, so I like to satisfy people's curiosity. Upon doing so, I always make sure to give information of what the content is, if it isn't clearly laid out. At some point in the past, Imgur implemented this system;

NSFW.

Imgur added in a "NSFW link" notification. After implementing one of the best ideas in Imgur history, hover previews for links; they soon after made it possible to mark these links as "NSFW". You simply had to say "nsfw" in you comment, and whatever link you post, will be marked as nsfw, and the popup will be disabled and replaced by a notification saying "nsfw link". The tag was so sensitive, that even if a person had a *username* with the letters "nsfw" in it, and responded to a comment with a link, it'd mark that link as "nsfw".

Back when I used Imgur a lot more, I would use the hell out of this feature, to let people know what they're getting into. You can't lay it out any more straightforward than that. Flash forward to now, things started changing even more than they already were.

Now people who post comments, DEEP within a chain of people talking about porn and porn actresses, and butt plugs, and Two-Tone-Malone, someone will post a link to a picture of a pornstar, and mark it as "NSFW". These comments, which you have to go onto a "MATURE" post, go through a chain of "MATURE" comments to get to this single little NSFW link, would be removed by Imgur, and if "repeated" could get the user banned.

Imgur.

Just like fans of a car company, or fans of say, PewDiePie, or Justin Bieber, we love this friggin website. But not all of us can take shit and sit around and do nothing about it.

Your MAIN contender is Reddit. You're pretty much injected into Reddit, you were originally just some crappy slow image host service for some people on Reddit to use. But you've grown into a contender of Reddit. I made a Reddit account years ago, and did NOT like my time there. The community is so so so toxic, and the layout of the website was too complicated for me to wrap my head around. So I stayed here with these awesome members of the community.
But the time is coming and going. These restrictions that are pretty much controlled by a minority-opinion are really starting to aggravate your loving users.

Over the past few months, I've watched people complain how they are so restricted on what they can do here, and the end all solution is usually to go to Reddit and do their business there, since it more tailors to us as single people, instead of us generalized.

We are on the internet. If any single person who can access this website and Google, they have the same access to porn in the world. It could take me a quarter of a second to google image search "boobs" and get bare naked breasts. Yet while still on this website, we're all treated like we're all the same age.

People will go deep into comments and seek out links of "mature" content, and report them. And Imgur (smells a lot like YouTube's "copyright" solutions) just deletes them without a blink. I've been doing this for years and years, and have never felt fear of getting banned for posting a single link. Now I am scared some ridiculous person coming over and getting my COMMENT deleted, and getting me banned for doing something I've been doing on this website for years and years.

You put in a "mature" filter. Let us people who are actually mature post "mature" content on it. Not everyone on here is 10 years old. Other websites work fine with an actual "mature" section on it, with no issues at all.

We don't want to leave, but if our experience isn't good on our terms, then we have no reason to stay anymore. We're growing up. Maybe it's time for you to grow up, Imgur.

FP EDIT (1:38PM EST): Well. That's not exactly what I thought would happen but thank you all for reading! This has been on my mind for quite some time. Glad to get it off my chest and get a lot of others to see it. I'd like to clear up a few things while I make this edit here;
"Mature" does NOT only equal porn. I know that, I said it in one of my comments that got buried. Although "Mature" DOES include nudity. If you ask the average person what consists of "Mature" nudity most definitely be one of the examples they give.
A MAJOR issue in this whole ordeal is that people posting COMMENTS are getting banned. Simple comments that ALREADY have a warning before you click them, are still getting people banned.
Another MAJOR issue is the rules are being bent by the users. A LOT of NON-NUDE posts are being marked as mature, but are still being taken down, and getting people banned.
Again, this is an issue that is causing a lot of problems with a lot of your users. Again, thank you all for reading.
I'll try and see what happens after I get back today after my second job. Thank you all for the comments! Please try not to overlook anything. Look at all the points with an open mind, and please do not simply go "oh he just wants porn". That is so far from the point that it hurts me to see people coming with that conclusion.

FP EDIT 2 (2:20PM EST): Welp. Looks like I've been banned for 24 hours. I was about to make a comment saying that if this happens to me, then I am done using this site. I'll let it slide for now, but this is still ridiculous. Can't even comment on my own post. What the actual hell...

FP EDIT 3 (8:43PM EST): Yeah I can't comment. So I'm sorry if I abruptly stopped responding, I can't help it. Ironic how my issue I'm talking about bites me in the ass as I'm trying to make a difference. My patience is running quite thin, Imgur. PM me if you want to discuss further!

FP EDIT 4 (9:18PM EST): I am EXTREMELY sorry for not explaining my ban. I made the edit quickly and I was still upset from the ban, and was trying to hurry up and get ready for work while still having access to a computer. I *DID NOT GET BANNED FROM THIS POST*. I simply did what I explained I do in my post; I posted a source to satisfy my fellow imgurians' curiosity. *MY ISSUE* with what happened there, is that I forgot to tag my links as "NSFW". I posted two links to two different people, which caused both of them to be deleted at the same time, causing the ban immediately. THAT BEING SAID. Even IF I DID mark my links as "NSFW", they would still be deleted. Which is a major issue in my opinion.
Thank you all, and I am so very sorry for not clarifying.

Just go to fucking porn site

Since this made it to the front page I feel like we need Imgur to clarify how it classifies Mature. Though I doubt they would do that

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Another unpopular opinion: I don't really care if people can't post tits. I'm here for the kittens and the puppies.

10 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 13

I got banned/suspended for saying douchenozzle. Not directed at a user. Just saying it. I'm saying it again here because I like saying it..

10 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

I like to say clit squiggle sometimes. Or douche canoe

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

D f O u U c C k H i E m N g O u Z r Z f L o E r that

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Imgur is not a porn site. If you wanna see naked girls, go to a porn site and stop whining about how there's no porn on imgur.

10 years ago | Likes 95 Dislikes 32

Imgur gets a LOT of traffic from porn subreddits, just not via gallery. In gallery, people are getting banned for volleyballers, not porn.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 6

I agree with the first part, but volleyball does not equal softcore porn

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Why is it so important to you to post boobs?

10 years ago | Likes 97 Dislikes 33

Seriously. As a boob owner, so many men on imgur creep me the fuck out with their porn obsession. No wonder they can't get laid

10 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 8

Why is it so important to Imgur to censure them?

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 19

censor* and why are you so pathetic?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 9

Maturity means knowing there is a correct time and place for all things.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

how the hell is reddit complicated @op? they've literally never changed their site design since it's inception.

10 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 13

It needs more than arrow keys and + and -?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Obligatory shoutout to reddit.com/r/IgnorantImgur/ It's a good thing Imgur users can't understant reddit, because they'd hate this place.

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

It's for the best. Keep 'em here.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Reddit is not complicated to figure out for anyone over the age of like 7.

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

You just proved your own point. Decade old layouts wont fly today, when people expect webaites to be more streamlined and straightforward.

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 6

It's literally this: particular interest>find subreddit>subscribe>post content/comment/lurk. I don't see how that is complicated at all.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

Some find it easy to navigate. Others struggle. Personally, I don't even bother because I see no particular reason to join Reddit.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also, reddit is a content aggregator-it's not meant to be a one-trick pony like imgur was created to be.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I think people expect more things from reddit than there are, so the difficulty is trying to do something that is not possible.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Like what? Features-wise? Install RES and hoverzoom, done. And unsub from the defaults, they're cancer.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, but for a new user that's a step that they don't know. Also managing subs or trying to make groups it's a little chaotic at first.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's why you sit back and lurk for a while. I don't see a reason why a new user would create a subreddit right off the bat anyways.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think they mean more along the lines of just to much to do to get what you want. I hate how many damn links you have to click on.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Install RES and hoverzoom.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

I've read that before. I don't wanna install a program just to BS. That's why I stick w/imgur. I only go to Reddit for weird stuff.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

They're not "programs", they're Chrome extensions. You literally press one button to install it on to your browser.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That's what I meant...no thank you.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Uhhh....how bout you actually read the terms of service? It clearly states what the "mature" filter is and is not.

10 years ago | Likes 117 Dislikes 35

if you watch user sub you get to see people bitching about what get banned and what gets marked as mature. shits really inconsistent.

10 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 6

I'd imagine that has to do with what actually gets reported. Too many posts to police everything individually.

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 4

oh def. also if you should have marked your post as mature and someone reports it the mod may just delete and ban you for porn instead.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Exactly.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

His point is that they've been inconsistent on it and only suddenly are cracking down on it when they allowed it before.

10 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 12

It actually wasn't allowed before. It was just not as enforced because there wasn't a real tracking mechanism.

10 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 6

And now there's still not a real tracking mechanism. There's just a "if this gets reported x times it gets deleted" or autoban.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yea and they also have, if you get enough downvotes in x amount of time you get banned.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you come here to see mature content you're coming to the wrong site. It's ok to use a diff website w/out having to leave imgur completely

10 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 13

TL;DR- OP has mature filter off because he wants to see boobies, imgur banhammers all NSFW regardless of filter setting. OP unhappy

10 years ago | Likes 102 Dislikes 36

If only that's actually what I meant.

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 12

If only there was some other place that had porn.

10 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 17

quick, someone register the website www.porn.com they could become millionaires!

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

and dank memes and kittens with nice keyboard navigation. If you know one, please share.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 4

Instagram.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Tumblr

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

I like that I don't have nudity constantly shoved down my throat like some unwarranted fellatio. Thanks imgur

10 years ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 24

I have the filter on, since on imgur I have not seen one nudity image on most viral nor user submitted. I'm pleased :D

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I'm a bit conflicted to it. I hate that everything gets reported but I also hate logging in to find nothing but soft core porn every day.

10 years ago | Likes 77 Dislikes 12

I know there is a mature filter but having it checked leaves out some good non porn content.

10 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 4

It also doesn't stop all the thigh high thursday or fitness friday posts, which is really annoying.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Screw imgur. I'm going to start my own Imaging website with Blackjack and hookers

10 years ago | Likes 159 Dislikes 11

I actually wouldn't mind something faster and less convoluted just to use for image hosting

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Lets do it together, what can you bring to the table?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Pictures of cats

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

HM i thought of at least the hookers...

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah! You know what, screw the website, and the Blackjack!

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Instructions unclear wound up fucking a deck of cards and murdering hookers...

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

honestly, i think what they're trying to do is keep imgur and the 'Google incognito' kind of content separate.

10 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 12

And that they're using the 'under-age users' as an excuse for doing so. in my eyes its a perfectly reasonable thing to do.

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 8

also, once this kind of content is posted, there are all sorts of legal requirements they may not want to deal with.

10 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 3

What about the NSFW content that Imgur hosts for Reddit? Imgur seems to have no issue with that.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

"It could take me a quarter of a second to Google Image search "boobs" and get bare naked breasts." Why don't you? That's what I don't get.

10 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 12

Really?? Just like someone who likes cats comes to Imgur, someone who likes boobs covers to Imgur for the community and layout. Like op said

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 8

I'm sure they do. But who is so sensitive that if a female pair of breasts show up, they can't just take it for what it's worth and move on

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 12

because there's a time and place. and this used to be/ should still be a place where its not really appropriate.

10 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 5

Yeah but if youre in a place where a pair of tits will ruin the opinion of those around you, should you be on imgur there in the first place

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 13

awfully judgmental about who should use imgur and when, just so you can see some boobs from one website, when they are everywhere online.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

its the principle of it though. i like tits as much as the next guy, but there are other places to go to to see those, its simple.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

I see what you're saying but mature =/= porn. There should be a mature filter AND a porn filter. And posters should be marking their posts.

10 years ago | Likes 448 Dislikes 60

Yeah I am ok with crude jokes and comments, and some shit marked mature isnt that bad, but I dont want softcore porn shit.

10 years ago | Likes 94 Dislikes 6

I say we eliminate the soft core in favor of good ole hard core.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 8

Honestly if there was a porn mature filter i wouldnt care but not being able to seperate mature crude/blood/etc from mature sexual bugs me

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It's so boring too! Oh hey it's a lady! And you can see some of her titty! Is that a nipple?!?!?!?!?!

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

It makes the fight seem like its getting more little kids and repressed 30 year old virgins, cant go two seconds with out that crap.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I cant upvote this enough. I'm a straight female and really dont want to see T&A all day, but weird stuff is awesome. Two filters!

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Easy solution: Two filters, Mature for generally NSFW and Adult for everything else. Scantily clad humans, soft or hardcore porn, etc.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sure but what about my gallery of girls in bikinis which got removed because it was sexually suggestive even though I marked it mature.

10 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 17

I have mature off, and I've seen several posts where the op claims the post is marked mature. Something's not working correctly

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

I'd upvote this a thousand times if I could.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I am ok with seeing mature content. I just don't feel like seeing porn when I'm trying to browse through funny things. There is a difference

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

"I wanna see mature content but only this specific subset of mature content"

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Sorry, I should clarify. I like a lot of mature content.(funny is my favorite) I just dislike porn gifs, with no purpose other than... 1

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

for porn reasons. I get it, watching people have sex is great. I would just prefer it to be on other sites. Before the mature filter...2

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I didn't see any porn gifs, now user sub is full of them. It just annoys me. I didn't think that was what Imgur was about.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It appears to be more "I wanna see mature content but *without* this specific subset of mature content".

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yes, I just thought of funny first. I just dislike literal porn, on this site.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Funny Mature is also a subset of mature

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Above user noted only one subset of content to be excluded. However they did not explicitly define the limits of acceptable content.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I disagree, porn IS mature content. If you're uncomfortable with porn, chances are you can't handle the other mature stuff either.

10 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 59

porn is mature content, but not all mature content is porn. see the difference?

10 years ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 9

every square is a rectangle but not vice versa

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 3

But why would porn bother you more than other mature things?

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 13

By the same logic, we should have categories for all mature content, but the point of imgur is that it shows a mishmash of everything

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 9

personally, i'm not inclined to watch or view porn, but violence and gore, nbd. my choice. the why doesn't really matter, ya know?

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

/unpopular opinion. I think there should be NO porn at all.

10 years ago | Likes 368 Dislikes 103

i agree. there are plenty of places to go look at porn. that's not the purpose of imgur. find those other places.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Yeah it's boring. I put the filter back on when I realised i was just "missing" tits and ass on user sub.

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

People just want something to Bitch about even though they could just go to porn hub. Good forbid they have to click a couple extra times

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Ingur has a different style, being image/gif/commentary focused. The commentary on NSFW/adult stuff is half the fun!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

So look up the nsfw stuff :P It's not that hard.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I disagree. Just make it so you block all xxx material if you don't want it. I don't come here looking for porn but some of its very funny.

10 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 32

If there's value to it other than just fap material, that's fine. If it's just a picture of a women with a name, that stuff needs to go.

10 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 7

why does it matter if only the people that want it can see it?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

I just don't want to see lingerie clad women every 5 posts with users frantically search for "scientist source" in the comments. Fuck off

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

There's porn all over, they're just in the subreddit galleries. Which is perfectly reasonable.

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 4

Not unpopular. At least per 178 of us...

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Haha, I wish there were more. It's unpopular in comparison to the 10.3k who have upvoted the original post.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Original post supports porn with filter, logic invalid

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Nudity is not porn, but the site and you apparently treat it all the same based on your beliefs.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 11

But a lot of nudity IS porn. I have seen artistic nude pictures that are not porn, but I have never seen one of those on imgur.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

What YOU define as artistic and what others do is different. I HAVE seen them on imgur because they dont fit in the definition of porn.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

I think it's pretty clear what is meant to be art and what is meant to be fap material.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This isn't unpopular! I honestly think most of us come to Imgur with porn NOT in mind. And we don't want to see it.

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

And I think many of us don't care. Lets piss in one hand amd wish in the other-see which one fills faster.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 6

YES! Imgur gallery does not need to be a porn site (soft or hard), as there are plenty of other sites doing that part just fine.

10 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 14

it is actually against the rules and a bannable offense

10 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 11

At first I read bananable and thought nothing of it what has this website done to me

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What makes this an unpopular opinion? I'd like to see the data you've collected beyond your own personal opinion

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 7

Uh, the fact that 10.3k have upvoted this?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

12k+ upvoted a post about adding a filter to allow mature content (even porn!). 200 upvoted your comment about no porn at all, seems popular

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think there should be no confession bears at all. But hey I don't get a filter.

10 years ago | Likes 60 Dislikes 27

This comment doesn't have nearly enough upvotes.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

You can filter them actually

10 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 3

Assuming people remember to tag their stuff.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Easy killer. I have nothing against porn or nudity. I just don't want either here.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

(1) I don't want most of the people here to be here but I know they aren't going anywhere. Same thing with porn/nudity.

10 years ago | Likes 0 Dislikes 2

5 to 6 years ago there'd be topless women on the front page every day. Maybe one or two. It was way better. If you didn't like it, skip it.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

now it's all whiny bitches who think that they should control it. The basis of imgur was that there were pictures of everything

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

I was here then. That's just not true.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It is completely true. The pictures were anything that went on reddit. People came here and voted on them. That's all it was.

I have no problem with nudity. It's the porn gifs that I think need to go.

There's plenty of porn around here if you look the relevant /r/ sections

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

This is literally already a porn site, the complaint being made is that a lot of people don't like the high and mighty "this is a good

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

Christian website!" approach to certain content imgur has been taking.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

People think that growing up means you accept porn??? Just the opposite. Iim here BECAUSE I don't have to see nsfw & goodies mixed.

10 years ago | Likes 73 Dislikes 26

You don't create uniqueness by becoming like every other site out there...

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 8

why you don't simply hidde the nsfw post with the filter ?

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 15

There are few gems that do get lost to the fap fest. Why not go to a porn site for porn? Maturity is understanding there's a time & place...

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

As some of the other posts point out - posters don't anyways tag it properly. If you're at a job that cares this means trouble...

10 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 4

Damn i just found how stop the filter !!!!!! THEY HAVE HIDDEN AN OTHER WORLD TO ME :O (yeah i'm new...) Ok ok now i agree with ur idea xD

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If you are working you should not be browsing IMGUR. nudity or mature content has no relation to that

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 13

People get breaks at work

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

If you're at a job that cares... maybe don't spend all your time in usersub? Maybe... do what you're paid to? Novel idea, I know.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

Ever get a break at your job?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

Yeah, I use it to actually take a break. Get up, walk around, relax my eyes for a while. If I feel like browsing something during my break,

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

When they announced the mature filter, it was said that mature stuff is not NSFW. Sarah has also said in the past that NSFW images 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 110 Dislikes 20

Imgur stopped using NSFW as a definition when they introduced the Mature filter. I know what you're trying to say, but using 'NSFW' confuses

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

will never be allowed on imgur. 2/2

10 years ago | Likes 86 Dislikes 16

This is what the community is trying to fix, it's not wrong to ask for change.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

I don't think anyone was saying there was. Although, maybe I missed that?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's incredibly shitty :(

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So, what is exactly the definitive difference between the two? To me, they seem to be the same thing. Neither are good at work, no?

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 7

to me basically it seems that if you're posting an image with the only content being a hot chick it's mature

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Well, one of them is "Not Safe For Work" and the other is "Now Safe For Work". You have to use context clues.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Oh yes, now this is good!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm just trying to be helpful.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Imgur stopped using NSFW as a definition when they introduced the Mature filter. Porn, nudity, etc. or purely sexual content is disallowed.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Yeah, most of the mature stuff would probably be considered NSFW in real-world examples. On Imgur, it's basically watered down NSFW.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

So, maybe "nearly nude", but not actually nude is Imgur's qualification?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Pretty much. Can't let anyone's sensitive eyes see a naked woman

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

No nudity is required for it to be NSFW. Check the rules page.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There's also still tons of porn and gore and almost everything you can think of hosted by imgur

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So then explain why NSFW link tags are there? wtf!

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 3

The tags are probably to prevent Rick Rolling: NSFW edition.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Think of them like an airbag. They're supplemental to driving responsibly and a seatbelt, not a replacement.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

The mature filter was Imgur's "compromise" when they first started enforcing the no NSFW rule and people responded with only technically SFW

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

What you need to understand is there is a difference between Mature and "Sexually Explicit"

10 years ago | Likes 245 Dislikes 50

[deleted]

[deleted]

10 years ago (deleted May 4, 2016 4:12 AM) | Likes 0 Dislikes 0

Eh the way the mature filter works there's no nudity or anything, in terms of women anything I've seen as mature could be on public ads.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Really, it's not that they should see them, ads are the problem, but apparently that sexual stuff is socially acceptable THERE...

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Post of mine got marked as sexually explicit. The image they used as an example?

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

This is cute fetish/fantasy art IMO. It walks a fine line as a 1/2nude, waif/elf. I like it well enough though.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

... It's a swimsuit. I could go to a fucking beach and see significantly more 'risqué' stuff out in public.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

THANK YOU! Go to a porn site or a porn subreddit if you want porn. I want cats and poorly photoshopped Michael Cera.

10 years ago | Likes 88 Dislikes 23

Why should you get what you want and he not? Just let everything be allowed.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

It's not about what I specifically want, but the purpose of the imgur community has never been about "letting everything be allowed." That

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Is 4chan. Imgur has always been against filling the gallery with gore and porn.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Gore feels like a straw man though. Let's say that it would be allowed, it would still get downvoted and noone would see it since

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

there is no demand for it. I think you should open the floodgates on the mature content and let the free market operate.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

If that's what you want, turning off mature content allows you to view cats and cera, leaving the rest of us with content we can handle

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 40

What about ppl who want bad words and dirty jokes without seeing naked ladies

10 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 2

Then it takes 0.2 sec to swipe/press a key and skip it, as you would for content you don't like. Even throw in a downvote if you want.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 20

I have the filter on. So if I see boobs or dicks, it means op didn't tag it right. Either on purpose on not I don't care, I will report it.

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

And that's fair enough. What op is suggesting is that if it gets reported as not being tagged mature; it automatically gets tagged

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Clearly the option doesn't work if images slip through. Seems like much better idea that if you want porn to go somewhere that supplies porn

10 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 6

Like imgur: http://imgur.com/r/gonewild nsfw

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I agree with straight up porn, but the rest of it is content that you should be able to handle as an adult. And the point 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 13

of it is discovery and discussing it with other people. And come on, one or two images "slipping through" won't kill you. 2/2

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 12

Or that if you want to see porn, go to the subreddit galleries where it's all hosted. Stop crying about god damned tits.

10 years ago | Likes 98 Dislikes 21

You know that you can find porn elsewhere on the Internet, right? I agree with your point but c'mon man. Go to pornhub or something.

10 years ago | Likes 177 Dislikes 53

U said it yourself OP. You can google boobs and u see boobs. Then WHY do you STILL find the need to post and look at boobs on this site?

10 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 10

You can also find imgur content on a lot of other websites too but OP specifically mentions they like imgur for the community here1/2

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 26

2/If the content here can be made more enjoyable because of the community that shares it then mature content would also benefit from it too

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 15

So he faps.....because he enjoys the imgur community?

10 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 6

Yeah because I want to read a million comments saying "source! science! banana in her scale xD" in every porn picture in here.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

I wasn't only talking about porn... Good God...

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 23

also how pathetic are u and others to actually complain about something like this? Do you have nothing else going on in ur life?

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 10

and so what other mature content were u talking about? You mentioned only soft core porn, like just go to pornhub or some shit

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 6

In *your opinion*, please tell me what content falls under a "mature" category. Is it just porn?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The problem is this can get you banned: (NSFW) Its not porn.Just a funny gif with a dick in it. Like dickbutt

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I agree that shit is unreasonable to get banned for, but the amount of softcore porn on here is annoying and out of hand.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So are breasts porn to you cause if so, how sheltered were your formative years?

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 44

it's not porn but people are posting it strictly because they're turned on by it, thereby making it mature

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Did you not read my comment?

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 4

Just because partial nudity doesn't classify as porn doesn't mean it shouldn't be marked as mature. Anything that someone under the age of

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

18 should avoid watching should be marked mature, including half naked women exposing their boobs or ass

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

(1) Im legitimately curious. What is the age you have to stop looking at boobs? When you are born you can see them to feed,

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

(2) then at some point you must stop until you are 18 and allowed to see them again. What is this magic age? Legitimate question.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Right. I forgot that sexuality starts at the right bold arbitrary age of 18

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 10

I like tits as much as the next guy, but that's not why I come here, I come here to laugh and see cats and shit. I don't report stuff 1/?

10 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 4

because I'm not a whiny lil bitch, if I wanted to see tits I'd just Google them. I leave my mature filter off because some of the funnier 2/

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

jokes and post don't show up because some jack dropped a NSFW in the comment section making the whole post nsfw

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

I had a post that was removed because it was "sexually harassing members of the imgur community". It was a sex education video. It was PG13.

imgur is fine with hosting literal porn, as long as its not in the gallery. I don't think there's anything "legally questionable" going on.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Dude, that would make so much sense. They could do a rating system like the movies... and users select into the rating they want...

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Don't bring sense into this!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

But we have days like Thigh High Thursday, Red Head Monday, which are clearly mature.... You cant pick and choose which sexual content is ok

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 7

Idk what Red Head Money is about but it doesn't sounds mature?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

I didn't even know about Thigh High Thursday... but RHM is always there (the posts are tempered down, though, like Lohan before crack).

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

RHM posts are usually tagged, thigh high posts always are. So they aren't.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

I'm not? THT and RHM are pinups of chicks, some of which might cross into NSFW depending on the picture (some are very sexual, others

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

are just women in normal attires and circumstances). And when it crosses into being sexual, it's flat-out not allowed, as per imgur's TOS.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

gore. Nudity and porn has never been welcome on imgur as far as I'm aware, and the mature filter wasn't an addition to welcome it. The only

10 years ago | Likes 233 Dislikes 26

Not that I miss it, my wife hated me browsing for that very reason. It's a lot more family friendly now, not to mention public browsing.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

The bigger thing that OP didn't mention, is that there are multitudes MORE sexual posts on the FrontPage with the mature filter

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Nudity was all over the place in the beginning, there used to be nsfw gif parties where people posted dozens on porn clips at a time.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

Yes, and sexually explicit content was against imgur's TOS back then, too. The stricter implementation came from imgur's new advertising

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

deals, but the fact remains all users agreed to those terms when they signed up, and imgur is in full right to implement them.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Yeah, not on the rules when I signed up.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Previously, the only sexual or mature posts that made it had some sort of content, much more than the current "look! A half-naked girl!"

You can probably blame the changed community for that (there's a reason a lot of the old big name users have jumped ship)

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

What? NSFW parties with soft-core were always allowed. Do you not remember the NSFW war? When Sarah got death threats apparently?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The problem is, imgur doesn't define what mature is. They have some weak definition involving grandmas or something. It's pretty stupid.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Soft-core porn and links leading to sexually explicit content have never been allowed, as imgur's TOS have never allowed nudity or porn.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Imgur doesn't define what mature if beyond those two very clear areas, which is the problem. I'll remind you the NSFW war got pretty intense

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This. I assume most people mark gore as mature, so I turned the filter off but I ended up with frontpage full of women.

10 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 1

Some don't, I remember an user being quite angry that their open-heart-surgery gif was reported as mature. That just goes to show

10 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

there's a basic lack of understanding of what qualifies as "mature" and what doesn't, though.

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Huh. I never would have realized open heart surgery counts as mature, watched surgeries on tv as kid. Yet "real life" injuries freak me out.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

My logic there follows the fact that most shows on tv that show surgeries have a "viewer discretion" warning included. I myself don't mind

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

You don't seem to have been around here very long..."NSFW gif parties" used to be as common as "Spiderman Threads". Those got banned quickly

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

I've been a lurker for years. Also, I'm sorry -- I fail to see the relevance of your two comments? NSFW content on imgur, both in the form

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

of pictures and links in comments, were much more common before the mature tag, but they were still very much against imgur's TOS. The

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

implementation of the mature tag came along with imgur's changes in advertisement methods, which just led to their TOS being implemented

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

relevant thing here is that imgur's owners don't want the community and public gallery to contain porn/nudity, and they're in their full

10 years ago | Likes 178 Dislikes 18

right to endorse that. I understand where you're coming from, but the lack of user commitment to tagging things correctly, and the fact that

10 years ago | Likes 172 Dislikes 15

imgur's public gallery system makes it very difficult to divide content in the way other sites do, just don't lend to this idea you have.

10 years ago | Likes 155 Dislikes 13

Reddit, tumblr, and actual adult-oriented sites are already far better options for all that.

10 years ago | Likes 129 Dislikes 14

I don't really give a shit since if I want porn I'll go to a porn site.

10 years ago | Likes 382 Dislikes 77

The thing about this is, that many funny jokes about mature stuff have no chance of getting posted. NSFW sometimes is hilaious!

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

Seriously why do some people care so much about something so irrelevant

10 years ago | Likes 100 Dislikes 17

Well some people want tits, honestly for me it's that simple. I'm not trying to shit on imgur it's just a change I would like to see.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 6

tons of funny content involves things that can be mature, there is so much more to 'mature' than porn.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

Yes, but that isn't the "mature" that op is arguing about. People want to post mature pictures of woman just to gawk at. not laugh..

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

People care because its kinda clogging everything up

10 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 8

I feel like it's clogging things up because people care too much. I understand why Imgur doesn't want their site to be just another Chive

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

i like this guy

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 10

I agree completely, and that's why I don't want any more "mature" marked posts of lingerie clad women tagged as "shitpost" in my main feed.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Couldn't have put it better myself.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 10

This. Why are people so obsessed with looking at soft core porn on this website?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wanna give you an upvote but your points at 69, don't wanna ruin it for you mannnn

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 6

And if you want kittens, you'll go to the kitten site, and if you want greentext, you'll go to 4chan, and if you want comedy, you'll...etc.?

10 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 28

Well no, since Imgur is for funny shit / kittens etc. It isn't made for porn so why do we need to post it so badly?

10 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 12

Imgur isn't all that funny anymore.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

For one, I don't think it's up to you or I what Imgur is for. For another, bikinis, cleavage, and all sorts of mild things get banned.

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 19

Some of the stuff is no worse than what's on a magazine stand. Some is, and if it's marked mature, then it won't show. If it's not, report.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 5

No you're right, it's up to the owners that are disallowing it, and are well within their right to do so. /thread.

10 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 9

How they dare allow this: http://imgur.com/r/gonewild nsfw

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

It's 100% up to them, and if they buy into censorship, that's on them. We don't have to support it. I also don't burn books or tell (1/2)

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 12

You're missing the point, it's not for porn. It's that people get banned over nothing

10 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 16

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 14

Well, according to this post in particular, it is about the people banned for porn.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Nudity is not porn, but the site and you apparently treat it all the same based on your beliefs.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 15

I love that people are using the word "nudity" instead of the phrase "softcore porn" when referring to their porn.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Tumblr is that way ------->

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 11

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 8

You are not a consumer, you are a product. Never forget that.

10 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 5

Scary few people seem to get that.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

I think what bothers me is that even with the filter ON, so that I shouldn't be seeing mature content, a lot of the images still slip 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 731 Dislikes 48

If you care about mature content get off the Internet and grow up

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 18

Yeah seriously. My complaint is kind of opposite of this post.. the 'mature' shit doesn't get filtered out properly. I don't imgur for porn.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I have to agree. I just don't use imgur in public anymore because it slips through the filter too much.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

People don't use tags. I filter out as much as I can that way. RHM, Identified Human Female, Cosplay, ect.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

How do you do that??

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Tags became irrelevant as soon as you had to go out of your way to see them

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i have it on and the second i did i havent seen any mature posts.

10 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 6

that's strange bc it has never worked for me.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Honestly, people whine about what is and isn't labeled mature. If you wouldn't want a 6 year old looking at it, it's mature.

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 13

Agreed!

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 8

Don't know why this was downvoted.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So curse words, violence, anything not intended for 6 year Olds but complete acceptable for people 6 to 18?

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 4

It's a rule of thumb for pictures, not for text.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

yeah, you got it!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Kind of the same problem - people get banned for tagging their own posts as mature, so tagging correctly is disincentivized

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Filtering is done backwards. There should be a SFW filter and when enabled, that's all you see are images marked SFW. Problem solved.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I knew a site that has 3 filters and each filter would place a box around the image to signify the level...

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

There was NSFW, questionably unsafe, and then SFW. And it was a beautiful system

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I like how easy it is to input pictures with info and make albums, I send links to albums and sometimes when a people views they see that

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

NSFW content has slipped through in the aide pane. I wish they was a way to send a direct album link with no connection to the rest of site.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Are you on the front front page? Because anything less and you are taking chances. When I am in a public place it's what I do and its good.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 4

1.I've never once had that happen to me yet. My filter is on, and haven't seen an any mature contant since. That being said, imgur's mature

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 4

is super retarded. Some marked images will be removed on the basis of being "explicit" even if they arent porn. It's like a kid managing it.

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

THIS! I will post something which is not even close to porn and will get removed while i see fucking porn on front page! It's like a kid [1]

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You've never seen a mature pic on imgur with the filter ON?! I've seen so so so many, and yes - I'm one of the asshole who reports them.

if you have the filter on and are seeing shit, you have every right to report.

10 years ago | Likes 262 Dislikes 17

why cares about people judging you in public? heck they probably even judge you for that ugly blue sweater you're wearing. whatever!

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 28

Even with the filter on stuff slips by. It's kinda awkward at work.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

My grandmother gave me this sweater, how dare you. Its better then those shoes you are wearing.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Report them. If they are not adding the feature, they do a disservice to BOTH us who want to see "mature" stuff, and those who DON'T want to

10 years ago | Likes 83 Dislikes 2

Do you really care about strangers judging you for what you're looking at on a pc? It says alot more about the character of the other person

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 70

Are you saying he is weird for caring about the public's opinion of him? It's a pretty normal to worry about the opinions of those that...

Some people consider it creepy to be looking at porn in the public. I for one don't want to be seen as a creep, even by random people.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

About it

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Its traditionally in most civilized societies considered inappropriate to be looking at softcore porn on your phone. Nothing unfortunate...

10 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

good point, i suppose. i just don't like when people look over my shoulder at all, and especially when it's not appropriate.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Right but if youre in an area where you don't want someone to look over your shoulder and see boobs, do you really want them seeing dickbutt

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 7

It was porn that took us from small featureless phones with tiny screens to the sexiness of plastic, aluminum, and glass that we have today.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

Don't understand why you're being dv'ed. It was a big factor in that. I've read multiple articles that corroborate that statement.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I finally did it. I have written a comment that took exactly 140 characters without trying. From now on i will speak in 140 char paraphrase.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 5

It's natural to judge others for being strange in public. I personally like leaving a good impression on people, as do many others.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

You have to see every day at work, school, on the bus, ect

10 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

① I think they need to make it clear which ones are tagged and which aren't, then give the community the ability to report non-tagged ones.

10 years ago | Likes 265 Dislikes 7

Middle griund doesn't work because most of us are dumber than the average.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

② If an image gets X amount of votes to tag as mature, it is automatically done. Relying on OPs to tag their own stuff doesn't work so well.

10 years ago | Likes 157 Dislikes 4

They could set the post to private until tagged

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

yeah, that's a really good point, actually. wish they actually read these kinds of comments more.

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

The system isn't automated. When a post receives enough reports a moderator reviews it and makes a decision on how to handle the post.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well that's just inefficient and slow.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In theory probably, cuz youtube also has people in theory read the copyright stuff, including refutes. Does it happen? Hell no.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

It does here, I can promise you that.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Last time I checked (Last week?), some posts marked Mature could be reported as "Not Marked as Mature." That just shouldn't appear if marked

10 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 1

All posts are available to report as "not marked as mature" when reporting via the iOS app.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I forgot to tag something once and got a message about it because people reported before I took it down

10 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

That sounds different. I mean things that are actually, properly marked, can be reported as not marked. They don't appear when filter's off.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

ill go back and forth

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fair. I think that's a lot of the "controversy". People who look at front page don't see nearly a fraction of what shows up in user sub

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well I've never seen anything actually NSFW, just pretty women. Fully clad even, though quite a few in more scanty stuff.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

But never anything that couldn't be on an advertisement somewhere in public, like actual nudity...

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I don't know. Most recent to my memory was a girl in just a thong bending over from behind that made it to the FP.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 112 Dislikes 26

And us vets saw this coming when Imgur sold us out, and the fools said the money wouldn't change Imgur.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 8

Exactly! While you can host your mature content so you can upload to reddit, Imgur definitely doesn't want any of that in the gallery.

Imgur can do what it wants just like any other social network. Sorry but it's their house, their rules

Not if users create content

That's fine but don't send mixed messages. Don't make a mature tag and then get mad when people use it

I think OP understands that, he's just letting Imgur know that they're alienating their users, which could harm their business.

While you're right with your statement, Imgur is a business, and a business needs customers. If a lot of people leave, they're forced to act

People like to ignore what imgur has stated in their tos. If your "mature" post got taken down its probably because it's still against tos.

Their rules are decided by the consumers (us). If nobody uses the website, they have no income. Stricter rules=less people staying on Imgur.

less people on Imgur=less income. We can "vote with our wallets", by either boycotting Imgur or using AdBlock to block their income.

Now, 'm not saying that Imgur should allow porn. they should have a separate part of the site for it, but banning it is not the answer

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 7

That's up to them, though. Not users.

You dont understand the fundamental basis of a business, do you?

"Stricter rules=less people staying on Imgur." I don't think that's necessarily true though.

If people who have used the website from the early days have to put up with stricter and stricter rules, theyll probably leave. They gave

this site a chance when it was young, so they might not have any complaints about moving to a new site. this doesnt affect new users, thus

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

my "less people staying on Imgur" part. I would love to properly debate this stuff, but the character limit makes it a little hard

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's the thing, it's not a social network. It's an image hosting website, it completely changed from what imgur originally was

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Yes the website has evolved into something new and the rules are set to match. Imgur has decided what they allow and what they don't.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Imgur still hosts whatever picture you want, just don't post it to the gallery. Very simple imo.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

IIRC, it's not at the decision of Imgur to do this. Advertisers won't put their ads on a site that contains nudity. Imgur has to make /

The only reason Reddit can stay afloat is because the use an in-house advertising system. Imgur simply doesn't have the numbers doe that.

/ money, and if they don't play ball, they can't afford their bills.
