it is not. it is a timed fuse that can be programmed at the end of the barrel. so the timer can be adjusted depending on the actual speed of the projectile.

iirc the new linux timeformat has an enddate something past year 200.000.000.000

while the chance that linux is used by then is non zero, there is a significant chance, that there are no humans to complain about it#...

the weather is pleasant.
relaxing on sick leave.
the third one is hard to explain: A lot of decisions to make. but none are super critical and most are for things to improve. which is a great upgrade.

So more bodies are only a matter of time. Afaik the nepalese goverment takes a fee for each attempt to at least finance some cleaning.

afaik climbing evererst is a hughe logistical undertaking. There are multiple camps to allow people to acclimate to the height. No roads. you cannot drive up there. It is to high for helicopters (afaik there is a helicopter tour to the base camp).

So any recovery has to be done by foot. Where each member of the rescuing crew needs supplies and takes a huge risk.

And for what? There so many concurrent attempts that narrow passageways get crowded.

i have the feeling that most serious security researcher/pentester/etc are/should be comfortable/friendy with.

you have to go to any hacking conference and understand why. there is no place and usually no tolerance for bigotry there. a significant minority or even majority are LGBT, furries, goths or in some other way non conforming.

Because both are electronics. You take a nice car grade touchscreen, make a nice frame and dump everything else on software.

Nice feeling buttons and rotary encoders are expensive. And you need a lot. Things have to be wired. Things have to be configured. Frame has to be designed and a manufacturing line started. Add that is has to fit the car design. and and and.

Add to that, that cars are getting more features. You effectivly need both, while every button is money saved or spend.

I do not really see the difference... A mine kills what steps on it. A human decided where to plant it. A modern smart mine kills what it was programmed to kill. An drone with a Neuronal Network deciding with it's given parameters what to kill is the same thing. A NN (sorry AI is just a stupid Buzzword) is set up and tought by humans. It will be far more capable to decide what is a combatant or a civilian than a mine. Which are used in unimaginable quantities in Ukraine.

fair. did not even realize. i would guess there are some roads making such an offramp necessary.

My point: A place where man and machine are exceptionally tested may result in regular failures.

Isn't this in a very steep and very long mountain road in the US? A lot of driver do not realize that breaking over extended periods of time can damage the brakes. Heavy traffic, mechanical issues and inexperience adds to the issue. Modern trucks usually have a retarder. A way of continuously braking without actually using the brakes (there are multiple ways and i am not expert).
I a manual car you can just give no gas and change to lower gears until you mostly do not need to brake anymore.

in a recent documentary an expert made the argument that we had autonomous weapons since forever. A minefield is a structure designed to remotely and independently kill or injure something that enters it's killing field. What about spike pits?

Tasking a drone to detonate anything resembling a vehicle with a "Z" in a specified region is only more efficient.

doesn't the MOAB need air dominance or superiority? Afaik it just freefalls...

so while is is a major blow the dimensions are mind boggling. Some estimates guesstimate that Toropets I (the explosion a few days ago) contained as much ammunition as Russia fires in 19 days.

So yes. a major blow for russia (pun intended), but we need MOAR!

That conference center (Congress Center Hamburg) yearly hosts the CCC (Chaos Communication Congress). A german hacker, security, data privacy and freedom of speech conference. Let's just say that the surroundings are used to a lot of shenanigans. They also removed bank automates from the surroundings...

i mean a lot of major Distros are missing. Debian, Fedora, RHE, NixOS, (Is OpenSuse still a thing?)

Which is fine. But it could have been made clearer that this is not a comprehensive List. By FAR.

you know that it is not really the EUs fault. The EU just forces websites to give you a choice if they do shady shit with your data. But there are like a few nerdy sites, that actually... do not track you and do not sell your data. they do not actually have any cookie warning things.

But since all these nice analytics features, wordpress modules and ads need consent, most sites post these warnings or just block the EU ip ranges...

It is sadly not only the stupid ones. I met with academics yesterday and a lot of people do not care. "Just stop sending weapons and the fighting will stop. Sucks for Ukraine, but PEACE". The finest Examples of Appeasement.

The educated/smater ones will usually realize that they are wrong, but it takes patience and constructive discussions. And you know, leaving your bubble.

It does not help that both sides are horrendously entrenched.

while i agree with you, a lot of the reactors were at their end of time and would need refurbishment, which is more expensive than people realize.

But i would have preferred letting each one running it's time, since they WERE already built and to save on coal.

But that is the issue of democratic politics. It is a highly emotional topic. I can guarantee you, that if the current government would have prolonged the lifespan, the next government would continue prolonging it...

CC&S is mostly a Figleaf for Oil&Gas companies to show that we have time and everything will be fine. BUT.
Things are developing rapidly right now. Solar and wind is developing rapidly and already profitable. Yes it is late, and yes it will take long as time to be carbon neutral. But i am sure we reached peak carbon.

Because we took our time, we will actually need some CC&S to reverse the damage. So building a few CC Systems for research is not completely wasted money.
