This is amazing. Thank you for sharing this.

It gets worse. The ICE prisons are denying healthcare to prisoners to increase their profits. Even if they were providing prisoners with adequate healthcare, ICE can, at their discretion, move a prisoner from a prison in a state where abortion is legal to one where it is not.

Cool. Now the only things Congress can pass are things the Republicans and Democrats agree on and can pass with a veto-proof two thirds majority. This is a vast improvement over the Republicans colluding with Trump to only do awful things.

I would appreciate it if the Italian police could do us a favor, arrest any ICE officer who steps even slightly out of line, and deport them to wherever they feel is appropriate. By which I mean deport them to some other country that's not inclined to let them go home, not to the US.

The current ICE activity is absolutely going to scare non-whites away from the going to the polls and voting in the midterms later this year. If, early on election day, there are stories about ICE in predominantly Democratic areas dragging non-white people out of line at polling places and putting them in detention, people will hear about it and stay home. They're currently establishing that they can do that and get away with it. It's horrifying, and it's coming.

It's actually worse than that. When you sell your house, you have to pay capital gains on the difference between the sale price and your purchase price (less the cost of improvements, and for most people selling their residences there's an exemption on the first $250k of profit, $500k for couples). So if your house went up in value a lot, you don't just get to take the sale price and put it into a new house, because you may lose a big chunk to taxes.

Not all counties in the US issue ID as part of their voter registration services. Mine does not. The last time I went to my local DMV in person was to get a Real ID to replace my normal driver's license. I made an appointment. I showed up on time for my appointment and waited for four hours. There was a long line of people without appointments, many of whom were not helped by closing time. An ID (not DL) costs $40 here. For poor people with a 9-5 job, this is a real problem.

I was excused from selection for a jury because they were asking everyone if we were more or less likely to believe someone's testimony just because they were a cop. They were shocked when I said I was less likely to believe a cop was telling the truth. They seemed to be expecting bias the other way around. One other juror got excused because he was so mad about me saying cops were less trustworthy.

It's because school funding is tied to attendance. When kids are out sick, the school gets less money.

So now they add this extra million fake documents to the few hundred they'd been holding back, put them all in a big pile that has to be reviewed before any of them can be released, and now none of them can be released until they're all reviewed, and they just bought themselves a six-month delay before they go "whoops, those were unrelated to this case and got mixed up by mistake". Or release all of it to make it harder to find the real files in all that chaff.

He's not trying to be VP. This is his campaign for president in 2028. This is him courting the white supremacist voting bloc for his 2028 campaign. He's not going to do anything creative; he's going to try to get all the groups that voted for Trump to vote for him next. He's going to get out there and demonstrate that he's awful in all the same ways as Trump so he can pick up the same voters that put Trump in office.

I hope a significant number of states just don't send anyone.

So do something about it. Have your police officers follow the ICE agents, and intervene when they try to do something illegal. You know -- like trying to arrest someone without a judicial warrant.

Given his cognitive decline, at this point Trump may very well not understand that he was president in 2020.

In their next move, that archdiocese will declare bankruptcy, and somehow come out of it without having to pay this judgement, and without having to sell off any of their churches to pay their debts. Of course, none of this will ever have to be paid by the parent church because the catholic church is organized in financially independent cells to avoid exactly that possibility, despite the fact that the parent church is clearly in control and capable of paying its debts.

That was Goldfinger, not Blofeld. Same franchise, different villain.

You're thinking of the part in Superman II when she jumps in the water at Niagara Falls.

It can be useful if you work in a field where you can realistically expect your income to go up significantly over time. Buy a house early in your career with whatever horrid mortgage gets you into the house with a low enough monthly payment, then refinance into a good mortgage later when your income is higher. In 20/20 hindsight, I wish I had done exactly that the moment I graduated from college 30 years ago. You purchase price never changes, but your mortgage can be replaced over time.

It's the most basic function of a society. People banding together to make sure everyone gets taken care of. How do people not get this? "Everybody eats" is a ridiculously low bar, and yet some people still have a problem with it.

I would totally feel owned if they did that. Go for it.

They're just harassing people who stand up to them, and trying to intimidate other people into not standing up to them. Even when the accused win in court, they still got assaulted by the arresting officers, arrested, thrown in jail, charged, dragged into court for a trial, etc. There's no consequences to the bullies for all the bullying.

They're not going to Europe. Most people in the US don't even have a passport.

I hope he considers a Senate run in 2028. He'd make a great replacement for Chuck Schumer.

The thing that's confusing these foreign governments is that they don't know if this is an official shakedown from Trump that they need to go along with or else they'll be punished with tariffs or whatever else by Trump and the US government, or if it's a scammer that they can safely ignore. How can they be expected to know the difference when the president is doing so much of this grifting himself? It sounds like a plausible Trump scam.

Could we crowdfund something to pay people to turn off the escalators everywhere he goes?

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Because any who did would find their country on the receiving end of a very high tariff (or some similar form of retribution). He's petty and vengeful, and that's a room full of professional diplomats who are trying not to cause unjustified problems for their respective nations.

Play a different game. This one sucks. At least use a different world.

Just increase their quotas. With that superhuman work ethic they used to earn their billions, they should be able to handle it, no problem.

Depends on where this took place. The US copyright on "Happy Birthday" was thrown out as invalid in court in the US in 2015. The copyright expired in the EU in 2017.

(A) you can't outrun the radio and (B) if you're going to make a habit of reckless driving in something that distinctive, the cops probably remember who you are from last time and can simply wait for you at your home, then arrest you.
