Yeah it's been... A ride to say the least. Plus media Lab tried to make a response post and that did not go over well. They straight up lied in some parts of it as far as the community can tell.

https://www.404media.co/imgurs-community-is-in-full-revolt-against-its-owner/ there were several stages of revolt including a couple of nights of straight up porn posts. There's a boycott of the site scheduled to start on September 1st. Some people have already used THE GIF to self terminate their accounts. Others have just deleted the app. Others I guess plan to stick around.

I understand that there are a few skits as well that I'll need to track down.

It's the name we took from a John Oliver skit about for profit companies like MediaLab.

Resend the verification email. I had the same problem.

The boobs were intended to drive away users. It's hard to open imgur in a public place like work or school or even the bus and see tits because there's social pressure even when people can't see your screen. But that doesn't mean there aren't just as many people who are more active now because of the boobs, and eyes on ads is what BD wants. There are upsides and downsides to every protest. Still think it's better than not protesting.

This is why the rule about your chest hitting the ground disqualifying you from doing more pushups is stupid, USN. None of my pushups count. None of them.

It can't go on being its best self unless things change with the ownership and moderation practices. And the novelty of posting boobs is wearing off. I appreciate that you've been having fun but this is not a sustainable status quo and if you want to help keep imgur a good place, the boycott will do more to benefit the imgur you want than staying will.

I like the slurping noises when.... Wait a minute. Nevermind.

story and maybe that is enough pressure to force BD to capitulate to fix some things. But a lot of the site users don't even know what things are broken, or what the win conditions are for this protest, nor do they seem to know what the goal of each part of this protest was. Even then I feel like it's better to support the protest than it is to pretend the site hasn't been circling the toilet for at least the last 3 years.

detrimentally affecting BD enough on its own even when you include the fact that it might prompt some advertisers to pull their ads for fear of brand damage. The trend of overloading imgur's servers with large file images is doomed to failure because literally everyone would have to post them and even then we don't have a way to monitor the bandwidth we're eating up or the cost of that bandwidth to th company. So at best we're doing it to get BD some bad press with media outlets that pick up the

does drive away casual users and lurkers (who make up a lot of the non-bot traffic), and the bots are only here to feed off the community with scams or farm point to make lucrative high point accounts to sell. Without people the bots will leave eventually. But that means people have to leave. The porn does a pretty decent job of driving away people who want to sit at work or in public and scroll imgur. But it also pulls in a lot of people who want to see boobs, dicks, and porn. So it's not

As someone running several ad blockers, I'll play devils advocate here. To affect BD's ad revenue in a meaningful way, a blackout (where we leave and boycott the site) would have to last a significant time anyone who's spent time in UserSub knows that bots are posting a lot of content and new ones pop up everyday. So that's a crapshoot in the short term. No single day boycott is going to work. The black images will work but they have to be kept up over weeks not just a day or two, because that

If you can do that on a stripper pole I've got a job offer for you.

I am disappointed that more people didn't stick with this longer. But on the other hand, imgur has had a bot problem for awhile and I would guess (some conjecture here) that those bots continue to post and to upvote the regular content here. That just leads othwrs to believe the protest is over.
