I dunno, the 84-page long battle in Lightbringer restored my faith. Dark Age had kinda gone too dark and I'd lost my appetite, but holy crap... as a sheer literary feat of endurance to write something that long and still have a reader mid-heart attack... r.e.s.p.e.c.t
As a veteran and ardent fantasy reader (GoT-certified, WoT enthusiast, LotR READ [and watched], deep down Sword of Shannara, Sword of Truth through Confessor... it goes on...all multiple read-throughs) I just... couldn't... like Malazan {book 1}. It came so close to getting DNFed, but since the only DNF to my name is the Bible, I didn't want to sully my record. Many friends/family encouraged Malazan, but it just didn't hit for me.
