Just writing about things happening isn't social commentary. You actually have to add social commentary to it such as having opposing views and conflicts.And when the only opposing view is described, by narration, to be pointless, idiotic and not worthwhile because how much the slaves love being slaves and the racism is justified, then there is only one piece of social commentary there and it's not the one you want.
Except its not just their world. It's the main character, who comes from our world and is our lens and is supposed to share our opinions. That's why he comes from the outside in.And even *if* its their world, as many anime try to use an excuse, that doesn't make it okay for you to justify such things and just hand wave away like "oh, Its just their culture. The main character just *has* to go along with it. When in Rome, right?"
And how did the people in world react to that and how was it portrayed?

I think a lot of animals are colourblind to orange. Its the same reason Tiger's are orange. It actually blends in with their environment surprisingly well. It's only when the orange seeing human poachers come along that its an issue.
