It really doesn't. You never really get over the fact that a lot of the world considers you subhuman, and you're constantly reminded of it.
This. My family disowned me after I came out as trans, which not-so coincidentally was around the time that I was suicidal.
I mean if you're feeling lonely then maybe. If there's a family history then I'd do it, but more to assuage paranoia than anything else.

In one of my speech classes I gave a speech on LGBT discrimination that made one person cry, and I still got a B. I think A's are a myth.
