If I’ve offended you, I apologize. The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don’t understand. I end up questioning everything and that includes the values of others and, more than often than not, my own. I try to accept these challenges as teaching and learning opportunities. Trust that I hear you when you speak your peace, regardless of whether or not I can rationally agree. That said, I truly believe that every divisive issue has a third and fourth option worth considering. Every right demanded threatens to control others of unlike mind and values, because rights will always require responsibilities. Morality was always a social construct and our values will never prove we are good people if the end result is not a true loving kindness. Love is a choice, an action/state of being and almost always a sacrifice. Anything else is using the name of love to justify something else - usually an ideal or identity that is intended to justify our core values. Our right and wrong are based on those personal values, not some objective standard of truth. If we honestly faced the consideration that our values never justified us, we could finally begin to face and love ourselves and others as the broken people we truly are. The Truth of humanity is like history. If you feel vindicated by it then you’re only choosing to recognize the parts that justify your core values. The nature of truth can only humble. Sorry my dude. Logically speaking a lot of things don’t have to exist but we humans keep making them anyhow. Saying “but we can live without them” is denying a whole lot of unearthed shit that if we really got down to categorizing it, we’d probably stop justifying humanity completely.
