Yes I agree with this statement. By using the fridge in a different room the fridge is the mechanism for dumping the heat.
I am a mechanical engineer, we did 3 semesters of classes on thermodynamics.
If the fridge is in the same room the room will get warmer. There is no mechanism for moving the heat out of the room in this design.
You made a heat exchanger. If you cool the ice packs in a fridge in the same room it will make the room WARMER.
