I will always recommend Petshop of Horrors. Sad that the anime is only about 4 episodes, but the manga expands much further on the story.
Now I suddenly want to play Illusion of Gaia again. Time to boot up the SNES!

She was the sweetest, most gentle dog I ever knew. We got her in '95 and she helped me transition a very difficult cross-country move.
