don't forget gerrymandering and places like Texas that straight up use extereme voter intimidation at the state government level. These have not been fair elections for a long time. I'm not sure the poor people did vote him in as much as they were disenfranchised via many methods.
I can't provie it, but this sounds correct. 24 years in and many, especially the senior enlisted, were left leaning. remember many of us came from poverty, this was our way out and a way for an education we could not otherwise pay for.
