This was sort-of tried in 2010 when the network was smaller and a bug was found in the software. Back then a coin was worth under $0.10
that could "dispute" the history of all the existing coins and override the true history. That'd be near impossible now that it's grown.
When it stops, a finite number of coins will have been created. The only way to add invalid coins would be to have a larger computer network
The amount rewarded has gotten exponentially less as the network has grown over the years and it will eventually stop.
As reward for participating in this enormous network, the software that regulates bitcoins will award an amount of bitcoin.
There is an enormous network of computers that verify transactions and have the whole history of all transactions ever made.
