Well there’s another flip for us! I generally loathe most things trigger puts out, Edgerunners is their only release I genuinely enjoyed. I think it expanded on, and set up themes, in the game nicely. Just different sides of the coin I suppose!

Quite a few of those authors were not popular at the time of their death and earned posthumous fame, which has since fallen out of favour again, the narratives and stories that tend to be produced and marketed for America are much safer. We used to produce international media, and America and China were always special considerations based on how certain themes were handled. I wasn’t alive in the 1940’s so I can’t speak for then, but I can say “modern” history it’s a hard pitch to make to publish
Hrmm I feel like we’re at an impasse then, because my point is “dying randomly IS the point, it’s around the corner on every job, every walk down the street, every cocksure attempt at taking a company down”. Every death painted the picture of lives being a commodity and no-one, including David “I guess I’m just special” Martinez, was safe from that. Everyone either retires or dies, we follow a crew for years, only one manages to make it out and that’s because she escapes to the literal moon.

I kinda feel like everyone dying was very much on brand and connected to the story of “you aren’t special, and that’s what’s special about all of us”. Our protagonists shoot and blow up DOZENS of people through the show, but just because the story is from their perspective doesn’t exempt them from others doing that to them. They lived a dangerous life opposing an incredibly powerful corporatist nation, their deaths were not if but when, it caught up to them and that’s what happens to all runners

He’s not the only person who doesn’t agree with that “perspective” (fact). A lotta people unfortunately have it in their heads that America is the largest and most powerful military and therefor could never come up in a loss in any engagement because as we all know warfare is actually one of those shitty mobile games where the person with the bigger number eats the smaller one without any recourse
Have you considered that you are in fact mostly tuned in to the words and situations of conventionally attractive women who have that privilege, just as conventionally attractive men do? I know quite a few women who don’t line up with beauty standards and their ability to find partners slashed because so many of us judge women exclusively by their appearance. They get called pretty horrendous things as a result. Pretty privilege goes a long way, regardless of one’s sex
