Whoa, the timing. A friend just shared a post she made ten years ago about hiking Camino de Santiago with her (now-deceased) father. She said it was one of the best experiences of her life, and of course, having her dad with her then made it all the better. Sounds like a very worthy hike to make. :)

Man, Tad Williams's "Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn" trilogy was SO GOOD with this. You watched Simon grow up from sheltered, lazy, entitled child to a young man who has Seen Things, survived multiple traumas, traveled the human and fae realms, and come out better and wiser for it. I despised him at the beginning of the trilogy and had a lot more respect for him by the end of it. When people talk about how hard it is to find well-done character growth, he always leaps right to my mind.
This is way too common in Alabama. Everywhere, really, but ESPECIALLY in the Deep South. I was raised in AL for my first 26 years of life and never liked how poorly animals are treated in general there, including by numerous people claiming to be animal lovers. But now that I've spent twenty years away, every time I return to visit family, I'm absolutely nauseated by the casual cruelty of too many "good Southern Christian folk." I witness acts of neglect and abuse on every single visit to AL. :/

We took in a pregnant stray years ago who loved being around humans and was a total cuddlebug, but she absolutely refused to pop until late one night, when every member of the family was either out of the house on spring break, or asleep, and it was completely silent. I used to use cruise control all the time. I stopped back in like 2008, after two friends within a year of each other had their cruise controls flat-out refuse to disengage, in two completely different makes of vehicle. Both friends had to resort to some desperate dangerous shenanigans that damaged their tires to stop. My pedal foot now gets full exercise when I drive, forever.

Sorry, got a little American education system on me there.
I want to Linux-switch, but I'm worried about what will and won't work. I do tons of gaming, most NOT through Steam; I hate Valve's buggy platform (mostly play Elder Scrolls Online via standalone launcher and some Battle.net launcher stuff). I stream videos from assorted sites and services like everyone else. I'm an author who favors writing in Scrivener. Hoping to get a new tablet for digital art. I use a lot of random, niche programs and files daily and fear losing some w/no replacements.
