I'd argue it made more sense to not have a background in gaming back when Reggie joined. To have executive experience in the late 90s early 2000s, you really had to have worked at Atari or maybe Sierra (For Americans at least). And considering how Atari crashed and burned, maybe not hiring those execs was wise.
When Sony jumped into the console market, none of them had experience in it at all. They did have a few games published and Kutaragi did design the sound chip for the SNES but thats it

#3 Our culture feels stagnant for the same reason when people ask you about American Cuisine they draw a blank. Because we had so many options, it's hard to form a homogeneous culture. Think about the options your grandparents had. Whatever was on the radio, on the TV or playing in theaters. Today, we have all that plus spotify, plus youtube, plus streaming services along with pirating things from other countries past generations were lucky to hear about, let alone see.
