Also, the movie The Wizard that debuted SMB3 in NA came out Dec 15, 1989. Nine y.o. me wanted that power glove so damn bad!
It was released in Japan on October 23, 1988, and in North America on February 12, 1990. So definitely "made" (developed) in the 80's.
