Hi, I'm Tim. If you'd like to (honestly and nicely) debate something about politics (and have an open mind that will see things from both sides, not just your own), then PM me, and we'll chat. If not, I'm stopping all comment debates. 140 characters is not enough space to express myself and also Imgur is weird sometimes to comments. My interests: -Computers -Physics -Fun maths -Gay shit My beliefs: -Gay shit -Mostly liberal ideologies, though I fancy myself a centrist. PM me whatever you want. Also if this gets to the front page, I'll share the story about my first girlfriend, who was liberal to the point that we broke up. (not super interesting but it'll be fun)
If you happen to be a general of an army that shares land borders with us, I would like to say that I, personally, would be glad to be invaded and shot in the head face and chest area.
Lupe Fiasco, got it.
The dono is talking about "Deontology"?? Fuck off, this world fucking sucks dude
I'm sorry, that probably should've been the first part is that I'm sorry you're in this position, and your parents are, it's unfair. But I also wanted you to know that it totally makes sense, that this is taking such a toll on you, it's not right that it's being done to you.
It's so barbaric because rather than being given one quick death, you have been given hundreds of them, spread over years.
Later generations will be too busy filtering the remains of the colorado river for clean drinking water so their hands don't get cut off by their overlords in the Prime Fiefdom
and then when someone says "Why are we doing this, this seems stupid" you have them executed for supporting illegal migrants or w/e
At a certain point the public has always been the public and will always be the public. You can go back to Kierkegaard and see him saying the same old shit you've heard since you were a tween; these problems have always been here, they've only recently gotten THIS bad, but it's always been the case that there are problems with public discourse, it's discourse of the public.
yeah, as opposed to the unmediated, free-thought Jubilee that was the Salons.
To prioritize nations is to enshrine a hierarchy of nations, one that no country may last in pole position. If you prioritize nations, your nation will eventually be deprioritized, and thereby neglected.
There is no such thing as caring for your own country before others, not in an international world. Maybe in the 1500s. Maybe. But now we are all inextricably tied.
NO SHIT, really??? That's so cool, I had no idea
The fuck's a "Brain Color"?
And the UCMJ and subsequent case law like Massey at My Lai firmly establish that not only are you right to disobey an unlawful order, but you are legally liable for not doing so, they can fine you, discharge you, DISHONORABLY discharge you, arrest you.
Scratch that, its entire existence IS THE REASON FOR "the constitution proper," it existed because the articles of confederation did not let them levy enough taxes to form a federal military (iirc, it's been a while.)
*loud wrong buzzer*, sorry, the UCMJ is above everything else, besides I guess the law of the jungle and the blade. Its entire existence is cemented in the very first bit of the constitution proper
They just don't hench like this anymore! You go onto HNCH and it's all "I'm a short and stocky man with a gimmick, and my friend Mister Surname," and you call them up and it's goddamn Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy or something, they don't do it like this anymore!
That makes a lot of sense! Actually, no it doesn't and it seems increasingly like we've been hip-firing this whole "country" thing, but you get what I'm saying, thank you for explaining it.
It's deeper than bail. It's a kind of systemic rot, to the point where you could take away all financial incentive and a judge may still fuck you over because you're poor and never see justice for it, and retire happy at the age of "Older than anyone with legal authority over other people should be." Our fascists seem... a lot more calculated and concerted over long periods. And they know how to transition out and bring in new blood, which I intentionally make sound rather ghoulish.
Chinese fire drill on fed uniforms
(I was 14, cut me some slack okay?)
I still have a shitty mspaint doc of a picture of him with a hitler stache and an armband drawn on
That get killed before they reach Bombay?
"There are little innocuous details of your life, that when placed in the right sequence, and removed from their context, will make you appear guilty even when you are innocent." -Abi Thorn on Kill James Bond! about the NSA and mass surveillance.
It isn't about having nothing to hide. It's about being able to hide nothing.
Do they refine for internal use only then? Or internal and state commodity trade (if that's something the federation is allowed to do?)?
I mean, fuck it's nice to see it, yknow? I don't know what funding looks like from now on, but I don't expect it to be pretty. It's good to see them get a good slug or two in.
I mean, they do it BY killing theoretical invaders sometimes, but... ?? y'know? I've seen them deployed to riots more than deployed to fucking ground war on American soil.
Also, isn't the Nat'l Guard a branch of the military? Aren't they to protect, in a broad sense, the people of the country?
*Populace. Not that it matters, but if I didn't do it, I would be legally obligated to kill myself.
I'd point out you're both using different terms. "People" are morally responsible agents. I'd say that if you give me a sufficiently smart and communicative octopus, that's a person. A human is a homo sapien of any given "race" within the species. In which case the argument becomes more of "Can we agree that all homo sapiens are morally responsible agents in the robust sense," which in turn becomes a question of what that entails, presumably some degree of functional intelligence, etc.
