What a thing to say "you will never regret it". I know some people that have regretted having children. They love them, but they've told me if they could have changed things, they wouldn't have had them. Parenthood is not a joy for everyone. I myself couldn't think of anything worse, but to some it's all they've ever wanted.
He was being calm and patient in his approach so the dog didn't spook and walk on the floor where the broken glass is. They handled it perfectly, keeping calm and acting as if it was no big deal.
