His Soyuz capsule experienced major malfunctions in orbit, but he did manage to set up his return sequence; unfortunately, the parachute mechanism for the reentry capsule partially failed, and he landed hard, which HOPEFULLY killed him on impact, as the capsule caught fire afterward.His final words, if any, are not recorded; he would not have been able to transmit or receive during reentry.

Had this happen to me very recently; my Mom went from having tea with me one morning, to unconscious in a hospital bed from a massive stroke, to an urn in the living room, within a week. It sucks, it hurts, and I do not recommend the experience to anyone. Take what time you need, be there for the people you love, and let them be there for you in turn; that genuinely helps.
