I agree, most thru-hikers carry a 50-60L pack at the very most. The lighter the pack, the happier the hike!
As someone who thru-hiked the AT in 2017, you can do it! And there really isn't much fitness to do to prepare, aside from actually hiking :)
Actually all hiking clubs will advise people to not go hiking alone
