What a lot of people don't realize is that China did not use the local troops to destroy these demonstrations. They didn't fully trust those troops. What they did was bus into Beijing troops from very distant outposts and propagandized those troops for the entire bus ride into the city to put down what they were told were evil counterrevolutionaries.

I still feel that the reason the USSR collapse was successful was because the USSR had seen it's control over the media deteriorate over the prior few years but most significantly when the collapse actually happened. The city on that day was filled with foreign newspeople who were carrying their own satellite telephones. China made sure the media never got out of hand in the years prior and especially on that day.

My uncle was 29 that year and we were in another city about one day from Beijing. He was thinking about rushing down there and join the protest. Luckily my grandma stopped him or else according to his personality he’s definitely gonna fight against the tanks and died with our whole family being watched forever by ccp dogs. I was too young like 3 years old. He always told me if I was a teenager he would have brought me and we could fight together. Fuck xi and his ccp dogs
