https://www.thedailybeast.com/wh-press-sec-suggests-doj-could-arrest-supreme-court-justices/
A reporter asked if Trump and friends would potentially arrest higher-up judges.
Per their modus operandi, they spell out the very specific case before them right now, but then expand with an outro that has very open-ended language saying "anyone who is breaking the law or obstructing federal law enforcement officials" is subject to prosecution.
I think the Daily Beast has a clickbait title, but the implication is there.
They're being very liberal in how they interpret "breaking the law or obstructing federal law enforcement officials" these days. They're already trying to go after some folks that were questioning who ICE / Fed Agents were during one situation.
Basically, they get to decide what is and isn't legal, and hold the threat against judges to "act right" or possibly get targeted.
I keep remembering when Saddam took power. He had his moment where he walked into Iraq's parliment, and they were forced to vote to make him leader. Anyone who dissented was escorted out. I feel like we're nearing a moment like that. Whether it's Trump doing it to Congress or SCOTUS. A dictator has to take over their own country first.
t00tie
To be fair, many of them should be...
DiarmuidRyan
Saddam hussein. Anyone who dissented him was escorted out, and shot. The first few gunshots brought everyone else in line very quickly. Only those he didn't like or still felt threatened we escorted out and shot.
psmith00
absolutely no surprise at this idea. he was recorded in his first term saying that he'd ignore anything that got in his way of doing what he wants and if they got in his way he'd do something to get them out of the way.

If Trump goes full fash, the Supreme Court Republicans are the most deserving to become casualties, since they enabled it.
meganical
They won’t since they would sell their grandmother’s soul if it aligned with the “interests of the party”
taez555
What's stopping him? The SCOTUS gave him presidential immunity to arrest or execute the SCOTUS. Obviously after their execution the new SCOTUS will need to determine if it was legal, but I'm sure whoever he puts on the SCOTUS to rule on it won't have any objections.
icantbelieveistillhavetoprotestthiscrap
Yeah, the time to stop him was in November. He made no secret of who he was or what his plans were.
eion85
And yet Trump threw a fit when the FBI conducted a search warrant on his property.
Odd
hotaru251
duh?
SCOTUS gave him permission to do anything and only congress can punish him.
They are already doomed by the muppet they encouraged.
They will lose their authority and power and they will react too late to do anything about it. Their arrogance is their downfall.
DrSchlepenstein
Hitler would be proud of the Trump Reich.

They can't arrest everyone. Don't stand back at let it happen. Step up, speak out, call out inhumane actions.

That scene from "Civil War"? It's coming

SCOTUS now has to live with the fact and the fear, that now they're faces are gonna be eaten by the leopards they themselves let loose.

It really makes you wonder what it'd take for the American people to want to hold Republicans accountable. They overturned Roe, gave Trump carte blanche, and literally published their own Mein Kampf, and people STILL said "the Dems aren't handling Gaza the way I want. Better give the genocidal maniac the keys again".
KPodol
The Nazis didn't only included the Nazi party, but everyone who enabled them or collaborated with them. That will be the same in the US, blame "Gaza supporters" whichever imaginary group they are supposed to be, but the entire political class enabled them because they want to keep their privilege. I know it's hard for America, but in the rest of the world, the entire political class are fascist all the same, not just Trump, for that same reason.
sleepinggreenidea
What?!?!? How DARE you accuse Democratic leaders of having agency or responsibility for their actions!

If he wants to cure cancer he can just off himself.
Stop trying to convince yourself that the media is some sort of anti Trump machine, they’re the reason why Trump exists in its current form.
johnblood616
He cut scientific research. You dumb fuck.

Trump has said a lot of things but nothing ever that straightforward and coherent. Anyone who understands the English language and listens to that man speak should instantly understand how fucking stupid he is if he can’t even form a single, correct sentence.

On the one hand, I can't imagine them doing anything meaningful, given their track record of enabling our decent into fascism so they'd have a boogieman to threaten voters with so they could avoid being ever held accountable. On the other, dissolving Congress would reduce their personal power, so they might suddenly find the need to do something more effective than holding up little signs. Not that it'd matter by that point, ofc...
icantbelieveistillhavetoprotestthiscrap
I don't know what we can expect them to do now. The time to end this was last November. The propaganda campaign to ignore Republican malfeasance and blame Democrats for everything began in the 70s and it worked beyond Goebbels' wildest dreams. Republicans overturned Roe, gave Trump total immunity, and literally published their own Mein Kampf. People still elected him.
slipmagt
Finally someone who actually deserves to be in guantanamo.
fractalsphere
They will only arrest SCOTUS justices who sign the 'dissent' on any major ruling, meaning the liberal justices and maybe Any Barret depending on how she leans on a particular issue.
sleepinggreenidea
Barret and Gorsuch are unreliable GOP votes on a small range of issues, but by and large both are supportive enough of the general project that they'd fall in line. Significantly, both went along with the immunity decision.
herejusttopointouterrors
And this is exactly what should happen. To the 5 or 6 that are kissing his ass. But unfortunately, it'll be the others who aren't evil.
CyberHexx
How long before the Supreme Court reverses it's stupid immunity decision, do you think? Will one of them have to actually be arrested? How much you wanna bet they try to claim Sonia Sotomayor is an Illegal Immigrant who never should have been on the court?
junkgoof
Most of them deserve to be arrested. Trump deserves to be sentenced.

Remember, Everything Germany did was 'by the book'.
the thing IS: They REWROTE the book.
Literally, they changed the laws to make jews and other 'deviants', into 'non humans'.
Ffudmethen
Just remember we can't have another garland at the helm once this over we need someone with a backbone to crack down immediately on these corrupt fucks
angelyric
Exactly. By limiting human rights held 'inalienable' by the Constitution to only those whom they consider "citizens" and then arbitrarily deciding based on their own criteria who counts as a 'citizen,' everyone else is subhuman and thus undeserving of those rights. It's the conservative way, and an argument they've been pushing for decades.
The Constitution is clear: the rights it protects are INALIENABLE. They are literally rewriting the foundation of our law with brazen executive action
sadurdaynight
I fully expect them to start weaponizing law against people. Basically start criminalizing morality. Try to feed the homeless? Criminal. Try to provide shelter to someone? Criminal. The goal is to outlaw what a common, decent person would do when trying to help others. That way people feel paralyzed and don't help. Makes it easier to isolate groups and go after them when others feel powerless to help.
icantbelieveistillhavetoprotestthiscrap
Republicans literally published their own Mein Kampf last year in Project 2025. They overturned Roe, and gave Trump total immunity. And people STILL chose not to hold them accountable. The mind reels.
fformulaa
I hope he does. That'll start such a chain of events that would hopefully fix the holes and at least help stop any future dictators
meganical
Because that worked with President Andrew Jackson right? Oh, wait…
sumthinsumthinsumthin
When will Chief Justice Roberts realize he enabled a monster when he wrote the immunity decision?

Just after it's too late to stop him, probably.

sumthinsumthinsumthin
A Constitutional Amendment (which would require 3/4 of the states to ratify) or legislation reigning in Presidential powers under Article II of the Constitution. OR ... another case they are willing to hear (they can simply decline) that would overturn the precedent of the case, since Stare Decisis no longer matters.
Strategicgnomer
OR, a citizen uprising, followed by a short violent revolution and a new constitution, backed by the military and citizenry. Because laws don't actually exist unless the population consents and force of arms are used to enforce it.
DejDek
The real answer is it gets corrected when we bloodlet the idiocy from the nation’s veins and fully reform the government to meet the 21st century.
Otherwise, we return to the 19th century.

Stare decisis?
Smidge204
Honoring judicial precedent, i.e. not second guessing previous rulings. Current SCOTUS tossed that out the window long ago...
MostAwesomeDan
Like how they overturned Roe v Wade seemingly on a whim after lying to Congress about protecting it, a decision that had almost half a fucking century of precedent legitimizing it.
delecti
They very carefully *didn't* lie though. Their answers were all variations on "Roe is settled law" which was true. They didn't say they wouldn't overturn it.
But it doesn't matter anyway, because they couldn't have prevented any of them from getting approved either way.
