60 and sunny out, so my husband and I made breakfast and picked up coffee to have a nice breakfast on the porch. We were discussing our plans for the day, and all of a sudden we heard the woman two houses down screaming “don’t touch me, don’t F*CKING touch me” as loud as she could. I have never heard fighting like that in my entire life. We weren’t sure what to do so we ended up calling 911.
Update: I felt pretty guilty after I called the police, because I thought I overstepped. About 30 seconds later we heard a shrieking scream and then the woman shouted “she’s my daughter, who are you? Don’t ever lay hands on her again”. After that, I felt better about my decision. This wasn’t a typical family disagreement. Police showed up about 5 minutes later with 3 different squad cars. My brother in law has experience in social work, he thinks that means police might have had to make a visit before- I don’t know if that’s true or not. Anyone have insight? They questioned them for a few minutes, left, and then the screaming stopped. No one was arrested. I just hope they are all okay!
SaveAChocoboRideAnAirship
Never heard fighting like that in your entire life? Damn, that makes me feel horrible. That was mild in my childhood. ?
ProbablyPostingFromAToilet
As a 911 Operator, you made the right call. Even if it's nothing, in my experience it's way better to be safe than sorry.
ChrisCopp
Always call. Some may not be able to too scared. Could change a life for better.
UnicorninBanff
My niece threw the mother of all tantrums while camping and the people in the campsite beside called the police because they were sure she 1
UnicorninBanff
Was being killed. The police realized quickly what happened and left, but my sister went over the next day and thanked them for caring. 2/2
Daeyelle
Always always always call the cops. Here in Adelaide a women was screaming for her life for a ‘protracted amount of time’ and no-one 1/
Daeyelle
Called the cops. The next day, a 36 year old mother of 3 was found brutally murdered in her house by her ex partner.
QuickLighting53
Hope everything is okay. Would love an update if you get news...
NEVADO71
I've done it myself @op. She denied everything I saw (she was thrown down a flight of stairs and lay motionless) and stayed with the guy.
NEVADO71
Traumatizing experience. I lived in the next building. You can only try so much.
Kerrbare
I called 911 on a couple when I was a kid. Turned out the guy had a knife and took his gf hostage when cops arrived. Saved her and her (1/2)
Kerrbare
unborn child's life. He was subdued without injury, strapped completely up in a stretcher and wheeled out. I'll never forget his raged face.
xars
I did something similar, the police already new the guy on first name basis. It sucks, but it is better to be safe than sorry.
dutchros23
I used to be that woman. I was never lucky enough to have someone call the cops for me. It took 7 years to escape. Thank you for calling.
VielSpass
Also called 911 when attacked by spouse. Glasses broken, bleeding arm, came 20 min later, did nothing. Later I was arrested on false charge.
VielSpass
I will never purposefully call 911 again.
lemonbasil
The domestic violence shelters for women have an all-high demand. Can you imagine having to stay home with your abuser??
b1candy2
Last time I had to call the police for a disturbance, the next day the neighbours came round to our place demanding to know the /1
b1candy2
Why we thought we had any right to get involved or the police involved. They said it was their problem, their child, not the police's
PearjuiceATX
Good choice. Don't hesitate in potentially violent situations. You may have saved a life.
mdzmdz
Better be safe than sorry where social distancing is concerned.
SaunterVaguelyDownward
Unfortunately domestic violence cases have been going up during the pandemic.
KogaSteelfang
I know these sounds. Dad was an abuser, everyday was filled with these "arguments" and being beaten. One night he tried to kill us. 1/2
KogaSteelfang
DO NOT FEEL GUILTY. You may have saved lives.
ElbowDeepInAHorse
Solid decision.
NeuralActivity
I have had to call the cops on multiple occasions because of screaming we heard from upstairs neighbors (1/?)
NeuralActivity
I always feel weird about it. But they have a 2 y/o and an infant and at the very least those kids are being exposed to some traumatic shit.
SheBitch
You can also call child services and make an anonymous report about DV
NeuralActivity
You know what I may do that. Thanks for the suggestion.
gilligan321
Used to run a hotel and had another job where I worked closely with first responders, you did the right thing, it only take 5 min 1/2
gilligan321
To beat someone to death, would rather have the call and get there in time than not 2/2
therealfatamy
I’ve screamed bloody murder for help in my front yard & none of my neighbors did anything so good on you!
TheFunionKnight
We did this (they are always fighting listening to obnoxiously loud music and smoking enough pot for the whole town) and she attacked 1/2
TheFunionKnight
Police when they tried to take him away, when this is done with we are selling up can't raise my newborn around this lunacy
TinyGreenMenNinjaClan
Wait a minute, wait a goddamn minute! You guys had plans for the day??
Valaar
ALovelyTime
Going on a walk to mentally prepare for the weekly grocery run perhaps. It’s plans.
thanksfoenothing
I'm more confused as to why they made breakfast but had to go out for coffee?
Uhmatar
Sex.
ALovelyTime
Even better plans
BaahPMunnie
I think you made the right call OP.
SurferChick
"Hello, 9-1-1, I think my neighbors are killing each other. Also, could y'all bring some toilet paper ... if you have any. K thanks bye."
JacobEsplin9
You can save lives in more ways than one...
ChunkOfJuice
Who ya gonna call
NitroTheChampZach
Domestic Assault!
Shoutrr
yup, i don't think calling domino's or the He-man hotline would have helped them, so the cops was the right number
wtforero
Could’ve called ghostbusters
VillainVillain
Just imagine if she made the wrong call, like 912, how embarrassing
wtforero
A lot of similar #s forward to emergency services, this may be 1 of those instances
stoutde
Yep. Rather be embarrassed knowing you called 911 on a rodent scurrying across the house than guilty knowing you could have saved a life.
befuddledscientist
Yup! Very true.
PooPooInSpaghettiEveryoneUpsetti
I once called the police over what I heard was a domestic violence case. They came, rang at my neighbour's door who didn't answer, so 1/2
PooPooInSpaghettiEveryoneUpsetti
They rang to... My door. The neighbour was at his window smoking a cigarette. Good job, cops ! Fucking imbeciles. 2/2
SophiesMum
Yes, better safe than sorry. Twice I have lived in apartments where the upstairs neighbor beat up his wife. I understand the dilemma of
SophiesMum
trying to decide whether or not to call, but in the end, I always decided to err on the side of caution.
commentsivehadafew
Better to make the call if you’re not sure
Kunitsu
as someone who lived in the kind of situation described above, i wish someone had called for us... but noone did because "he was a good man"
Kunitsu
better to call and it be nothing, than shrug it off and find out you could have saved a life instead
DorthLous
100% agreed. I was wrongfully arrested while being attacked (and later cleared) and I still think better safe than sorry. Time enough later.
sperkins85
We’ve had to do that too. I’d rather everyone come out safe than sorry!
root1657
When I moved in my neighbor told me if we ever need help, don't yell for help, yell fire, cause there is a flock of peacocks in the area...
cre8majic
Peacock screams can sound just like a human scream
rubberbuscuit2018
Where is this?
root1657
Everywhere there are peacocks I imagine...
rubberbuscuit2018
Yeah no. I live in Minnesota. Too many predators and too cold for peacocks except in Zoos.
root1657
So like I said everywhere there are peacocks, not that there are peacocks everywhere. Words are hard, I know... But read em.
psuedon
and then what happened?
ScienceIsNotALiberalConspiracy
Neighbor was yelling at the muddy dog. Cops showed up and killed her husband.
shuya82
I laughed way too hard at this, thank you.

UPDATE: Lady's cat was trying to steal her sea meat sandwich out of her hands and she had to put the little fucker in its place.
Kirburglar
The doodleloot
KevinStrexcorp
Cops turned up and shot both the cat and the woman
NoeCarrier
In their defense the sandwich did have a knife and came at responding officers with it. No time to use less lethal options like a toaster.
AnastasiaBeaverhousen88
As police, thank you for calling 911. I’ve seen good citizens try to intervene and get severely injured. Call me to do the dirty work please
IneversaidIworkedhere
Officer Beaverhousen!
Amousewithchees
Domestic disturbance is one of the worst situations, but the police are usually better equipped to handle it.
MisterTangerineMan
Can you go find me some toilet paper, please?
UserNamesArentEasy
Try the store they are starting to restock.
StressTestOICU812
Whew, be careful out there. I've read that DD is one of the most dangerous calls for cops to respond to.
Drakhma
AverageTortilla
Can I ask a police-related question? Why have I never seen police on tinder? Is it against your regulation or something?
InThirdAge
I've seen several... It's probably tinders algorithm, they don't show up for you ?

I have a cop friend and he is on tinder and a couple of the other online dating apps. Maybe there isn’t any in your area?
WolfPrincess69
That or maybe they don’t advertise what they do for a living on their profile
cardinal29
There's a lot crazy LEO hunters out there.
probshouldntsayitbut
Badge bunny alert!!
TexanSailor
Police, firefighters, and service members are on tinder. We just don’t generally advertise it up front.
Bugsyjr9000
Who downvoted you? Wtf? It wasn't a very controversial question or anything...
Freezemist2
Because cops swipe left on you probably. :p
Jujubird
I met a policeman on tinder, didn't say anything on his profile, but it came up in conversation. Unrelated to career, the guy was a dick
tlm26071
I used tok be on bumble. Lots of police and pilots.
rubberbuscuit2018
Police and firefighters get fetishized. I am guessing that along with people on the opposite end of the spectrum are why. Used to live 1/2
Drakhma
what?

2/2 next door to a retired long time police offer. You would not believe the stuff of nightmares they have to deal with on and off the job.

I'm a female cop on dating apps, never post a pic in uniform though. Feels weird. Some cops will, some won't.
Tarmaccian
So outside of dating apps, what are you? A male data analyst? An attack helicopter dancer? Now I’m curious...
thebiglizard
I actually identify as an Apache attack helicopter.
Private4160
darn, I've been looking for an RAH-66 Comanche
