The Sideways Gun Gangster Pose

Popularized during the gang related crime waves of the 1990s, it holds the reputation for both "looking pretty sick" and being "the worst way to shoot, ever".

But why is it a thing?

Meet The Mac Ten Machine Pistol

You remember these. Often referred to as an "Oozy", and commonly confused with its distant relative the Tech nine. Used by US Special Forces during Vietnam, a staple of the Spanish Police, and produced heavily during the 1970s.

They are prone to jams, overheating, are notoriously inaccurate, and tend to fire all of their ammunition in about 1 & 1/2 seconds.

This is a Tech Nine. Not an Oozy

Machine pistols and handguns flooded the civilian black markets during the 70s-90s, mainly from disused military stock. (Like Russian selling their cold war shit while the Soviet union collapsed, same idea.)

Mainly Used Indoors, At Very Close Range

These guns have a tendency to fire very quickly, and jump upwards during recoil, making the accuracy very poor. Short barrel length and the use of either 45 or 9mm calibers only worsen its already bad accuracy.

Fiddy

Living proof that these guns are not a very effective killing tool, even at ten feet.

Recoil, Make It Work For You

Unless you wanted to shred the plaster about 5 feet above your targets head, you would turn it sideways. This allowed a shooter to spray 10 feet of a city block with hot molten rage during a driveby, or have a better hit chance when firing at a crowd spread down a sidewalk.

In Conclusion

If it's a pistol, hold it up right, firing one shot at a time, like a normal serial ki-person. Machine pistols are the only weapon suitable for this pose, and Its only because of the innate flaws of the gun itself.

Bender Tax.

"Shut up baby, I know it."

FP EDIT: Firstly, I think "plague mouthed idiot" is the best thing I've ever heard. Secondly, since this did not die deep in user sub as suspected, it may be fair to clear up some of the, er, technical mistakes. I wrote this three times on mobile app, before it finally worked, and was quite drunk at the time, leading to some of the slipper portions of this, unfortunately including the usage of "oozy". That bit right there, straight up me being stupid. And I believe that's a picture of a Mac 11, not even a Mac 10. I won't even go into listing the other inaccuracies, basically, forget everything you just read. I am excited to see you all in Ep. 2 "Handshakes, Originally Done With Feet"
Good day. Love, -plague mouthed retard

A Mac-10 is not an uzi, they are different weapons completely.

There is way too much wrong with this for the character limit I have.

Mac-10 and Uzi are two completely different guns.

You fucked this post all the way up, downvote.

There should have been a blurb also about the difference between standard machine guns, submachine guns, and machine pistols.

THANK YOU

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Haters are gonna be on this one hard. But inaccuracy doesn't correlate directly to 45 ACP or 9mm calibers, and "short" barrel is relative.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Exactly, open bolt vs closed bolt operating systems have a much bigger impact.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've never seen someone confuse a Tech Nine And Mac Ten for each other. Also, it's commonly "Uzi," not "Oozy." Like for real dude?!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

going through it the only parts i can find which are true are things like "mac 10 is a gun" and "tec 9 is also a gun"

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know right? It's like "Oozy?" Are you serious?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

OP studied at the GTA institute of shootology

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Mac-10's were used by special forces, CIA, and the U.S. Secret Service (and every other country in the world) they aren't that inaccurate

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

lol

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So, when can I start turning my MAC 10 sideways while playing CS GO?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Um... I think you mean "Uzi," because it looks like a smaller, similar version of the Uzi pistol.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Well, I do mean Uzi, but not because of that I'm afraid. It's based on the name of the creator. It's down here in the comments somwhere

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 10

Your post is shocking, mate.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Uzi, named after Uziel Gal, the designer.

10 years ago | Likes 518 Dislikes 3

I shot an Uzi a while back (semi auto).

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

It was pretty cool.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Who didn't want his name on it, iirc.. you never seem to win that kind of argument.. ;)

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Oozy, named after this rather large pimple I had on my back last week, which shot out pus as fast as a machine gun.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

There's also this superior rarity https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jatimatic

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also, there are no Uzis in this entire post lol

10 years ago | Likes 73 Dislikes 0

Yes. This is correct. OP is sober now, and surprised that this is still alive

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

This is what I came to say. An Uzi is a similar yet entirely different machine pistol.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Thanks Richard, I'll try add more info next one, mobile app made me rewrite this three times before it posted properly

10 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 22

then pls also add that the MAC-10 is *incorrectly* referred to as an "Oozy" since the Uzi is a different gun.

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I thought OP was being funny. as in "gangstas" dont know the difference

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I assumed that at first but reading the comment section a lot of people understood it different so a clarification would be appropriate.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

OP made some clerical mistakes here, as he was boozing. Deeply apologetic.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Please keep ep. 2 to yourself. The world is dumb enough.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

This comment had me rolling, thanks.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Glad to get 'cha movin'.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

This is getting upvoted because it's so hilariously wrong, right? RIGHT!?

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

No clue.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They held it sideways in cinema so that the hot shells wouldn't hit actors faces. People thought it looked cool and started going it. (1/2)

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Sideways pistol comes from, putting it in somebodies mouth and wanting 2 understand them. Less lose of control and positioning...

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a secondary use: It allows you to see the actors faces better. (2/2)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This movie stuff is also true. Directors just took it ovrrboard, and moviegoers followed

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Could someone from the military with actual weapons training explain this better, please?

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

Shell casings are HOT and spraying them upwards in a small area is a piss poor idea.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Detailed explanation from a former military competitive shooter: OP's full of shit. Not sure if they're trolling or serious, though.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

10/10 military think this is some kind of foolishness.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm not from the military but I have some weapons training and pretty much everything OP said is bullshit that he made up.

10 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

I spent some time in the military, not a weapons guy but a qualified marksman- thought the same thing- complete nonsense!

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I think OP did all of his research by watching shitty movies.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

The only accurate info is the crappy accuracy of the Mac-10

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Compact design combined with heavy open bolt design does not lend itself to accuracy. But it's as good as the user.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Only if you leave the stock upper on the weapon. Plenty of aftermarket uppers out there that improve upon the accuracy.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I've been known to spin a clever quip like that being a fellow enlisted man, but marines always give em a special flare, I must say.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Clearly! It's a Rek 9 not a Tech nine.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fun fackt about a rekt nine. Navy seals use them and the are held together by 1 "bolt". Google tek 9

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh is it a rekt 9... damnit. I googled Tech 9 and I came across a rapper named Tech n9ne. I'm a bit disappointed.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This was my first thought, but not in those words. My brain articulated it as "the Mac-10 has a folding stock for a reason."

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The folding stock on the Mac-10 is a counter weight more or less. I don't see that Automatic POC being used efficiently ever.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Maybe some kind of heat shield on top, you could hold the muzzle down. But then there's hot casings all over the place.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A compensator would do that. But yes casings would go everywhere. If you attempt to stop casings from flying you're going to end up jamming

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A Mac 10 stovepiping? Gee that never happens :P

"70s-90s civilian black market"? You realize most macs were legally purchased and registered as machineguns before the 86 Hughes amendment?

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

So what is the real reason people hold it sideways then, just because it's cool?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Basically with most things, it had a purpose and was shown in movies, which then spread into "pop culture" where it was done for looks.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know but what i'm asking is what is the original purpose, because this explanation doesn't seem so far fetched.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The rumor was old gangsters would slightly tilt there guns to the side letting the recoil of such weapons "fan" the spread of the 1/?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

bullets so they would recoil horizontally in a sort of sideways zig zag formation and therefore increase hit probability. 2/?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just because *they think* it looks cool

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

"Plague mouth retard." Mind if I borrow that phrase?

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Use it as you'd like.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm an avid shooter and he's so full of it. They hold it sideways to control the flight of spent casings, or because they don't know better.

10 years ago | Likes 96 Dislikes 3

I was going to mention the spent casing thing, they'd drop into the vehicle instead of out the window, less evidence. Still dumb but better.

10 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

If you were that concerned about spend casings don't use a full Auto.... that was a dumb comment.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

the myth reportedly comes from drive by shootings where the shooters want to keep the casings in the car and not go out on the street.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The the weapon would have to be in the car anyways. They wouldn't have it outside the car.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Of course. I'm just saying that's where the myth comes from.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Interesting note; this is shown off in the intro sequence of MGSV: The Phantom Pain. They even adjust for the horizontal recoil.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They reason the XOF soldiers hold it sideways there because it's the only way they can get an iron sight picture wearing a gas mask.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Egg on my face! I just saw how tightly grouped they got in formation and assumed it was to prevent casings from flying in to their face.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Probably didn't hurt to not have casings in your face regardless.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Its to show you mean business bruh. Holding regular? Aint intimidating. Sideways? Fawk that.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

First item of business: ahh you gotta get schwifty!!! Second: a gun pointed at me is already intimidating enough regardless of the position.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've never fired anything but a bolt action rifle, but is kick not just the natural way your arm moves when the gun pushes backwards? (1/2)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Kick is the weapon pushing into you as the hammer moves back due to dynamic energy from the round

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

That is exactly what I thought so would that not mean that holding it sideways would still result in upwards kick?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Kick generally pushes backwards however it also has to do with the balance of weight around the barrel so most guns kick up.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"Oozy?" Seriously? How did you come up with that?

10 years ago | Likes 482 Dislikes 12

Does no one remember the Beetlejuice cartoon where Lydia went to shoot this gun and all it did was ooze green stuff? Just me? Ok then...

MRW I re-read the stuff I wrote last night. But, eh, OP To lazy to make actually good content.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't think he's saying that's the official name but "Often referred to as". I mean he put it in quotation marks, knowing its incorrect.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

OP wishes that was the case. I do know it's Uzi, I just got super drunk and lazy as fuck. Figured it would die in User Sub. Oops.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In OP's defense, lots of people ignorantly call anything that resembles a submachinegun an "Uzi" and lots of people are bad at spelling.

Why do you think people get the MAC-10 confused with the TEC-9? They look nothing alike. It's far more likely to be confused with the Uzi.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Same way people confuse ARs with Kalashnikovs.

I love seeing other random Technicians on the interweb c:

My uncle used to smoke with Tech N9ne before he made it big, always weird to me when I just know him as my uncle's old friend.

I don't think the uzi 9mm and the Mac-10 are the same gun. Also if you fire like that, a fountain of hot shell casings will hit you.

10 years ago | Likes 122 Dislikes 3

They aren't, you are correct. the MAC-10 is a USA weapon, the Uzi is an Israeli design. Good overview www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxzZJjDRdeo

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You're correct. The Uzi is the israeli original, while the Mac-10 is an american gun, that's pretty similar to the Uzi though.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

No, the Uzi is an Israeli creation, and is far far better than a mac 10

https://en.wikipedia.org/w">wiki/Uzi">https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uzi https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MAC-10 Same basic shape, but completely different gun. (1)

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

To be fair a lot of guns have the same basic shape.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

lefty disagree. Source : I'm not one of them

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't think OP thinks that either, just noting the MAC-10 is often erroneously referred to as an Uzi.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They aren't, they're completely different.

https://en.wikipedia.org/w">AC-10">https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MAC-10 vs https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uzi . (Developed by Gordon B. Ingram and Major Uziel Gal respectively)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Correct. Uzi is a closed bolt, and originally the Mac 10 was open bolt.

10 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 2

Nope, the original Uzi was open bolt.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Civilian Uzis are closed bolt. Military ones are open bolt.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I completely forgot about that too, thank you.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

You're welcome

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You turn it sideways, but with the ejection port down. Hot shell casings hit floor. No burning owies. Dead enemies. Profit.

10 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

Even if they do hit you it would be after enough time for a sizable spray

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Works if you're left-handed.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

It looks as I have the advantage with a gun with the ejection port on the right now!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is a machine pistol. Let's not get hung up on accuracy here. Most are coordinated enough to point in a general direction & squeeze.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

The Mac is commonly called an Uzi though, so it's a grey area. Similar to calling magazines clips. (2)

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

As someone whose only experience with guns is through videogames: what is the difference between a magazine and a clip? Or is clip just BS?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A clip is used to feed or hold bullets in a magazine. A magazine can be detachable or part of the gun itself.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

them together until they're loaded. A 'detachable box magazine' is a replaceable part that both contains and feeds the ammo[2/2]

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Clips are a means of reloading an 'internal magazine' rapidly; rather than inserting one bullet at a time into a rifle, the clip holds [1/2]

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Doesn't the uzi look different too though?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Uzi is a completely different weapon.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The shared T shape and magazine location make them similar enough to confuse people. They do of course actually look different.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Uzi has a forgrip, and is longer.

"Of course it all started in the 20s with the Thompson submachine gun, sometimes referred to as a 'To-Me Gun'."

Read that as "to me" now I just picture an FPS where you have a gun that draws anyone the bullets hit towards your avatar.

The man with the gun is always grammatically correct.
