Right wingers *really* need to look up the Barbara Streisand effect - every time they try to stomp out any dissent or peaceful protest they just elevate it
These people have a bee in their bonnet, but they know a group of adult protestors will kick their ass so hard they'll be coughing up shoelaces. So they target teenages instead, because they're easier targets. Fundamentally the kind of chuds who attack protestors are toddlers in adult bodies who can't control their own emotions or hold any worthwhile principles, so it shouldn't be very surprising.
No need for the "/s"; any challenge to authority, no matter how minor, how peaceful, or justified, will always be treated as a violent offense to their person and identity. Their authority is holy to them. More sacred than any god is their spot in the hierarchy above other people. It defines them. It's more integral to their sense of self than anything in the world, even their own families and lives. That is the "authoritarian personality" that drives fascism.
Because the unspoken bullshit in the US is that authority only thinks you have rights if you're 18 or older. If you're in school you're considered a kid and they expect you to sit down and shut up....bc that's how they like to groom kids
When I taught, and it came up appropriately, I would remind students that as far as the school and seocity saw it, they don’t have rights. That they are treated as not having a first amendment, or honestly any of the rest of them. I also reminded them that they need to remember that all humans have those rights no matter their age. That them being treated as such is bs and that they are their own person capable of making their own decisions. That they should stand up for their rights and others’
it is very important, NOW, to start working locally to get rid of qualified immunity. Qualified immunity=police cannot be personally sued for brutality, instead the city aka the taxpayers pay. In NYC, the bill to end qualified immunity for NYPD had been sitting in committee doing nothing until the BLM protests, which was an ideal time for it to be pushed through. You have to be ready to take advantage of momentum when stuff like this happens &is all over the news. Start getting involved locally.
The school was correct in their assessment of safety concerns due to their actions. The school called in the plainclothes police which caused the violence.
Do police have a history of wearing plainclothes in protests? It seems like a terrible idea that should be illegal. Police in marked cars need to obey traffic laws, and they use lights when they need to break them. In all reasonable circumstances, police should be wearing their uniform when getting physical with anyone, especially in a protest. I would have fought back too. This is absurd, dangerous, and simply wrong.
I remember during my high-school years ('79-'83) whenever a subject came up, either as a matter of whatever we were learning at the time or if students were against a certain policy, for example & considered showing our disapproval, for instance, a walkout, as these kids tried, over something such as random locker inspections, etc., we were told over & over that we had no rights at all, no voice in what happened to us, whatsoever. Simultaneously, we were being taught how America was "the -->
Stop trying to tell your enemies what to do. They won't comply. Rather organize against them and prepare yourself. When they make peaceful protest impossible, violent protest is inevitable. I also heard something about Americans having the right to bear arms against a tyrannical government, but it has to be via well-organized militias or something like that? If you're American you should look into that.
The dude in the brown jacket is not only chief of police (who rolled up in an unmarked vehicle and didn't identify himself) but he's also the borough manager AND public records officer.
As a teacher.... It's kinda dicey, because we are liable for them and their safety until a certain time, or until they are home, so if they leave campus, we technically HAVE to involve someone. I've known admins to follow kids who just walk out all the way to their home.
I mean, the kids are literally trapped inside the school for X amount of time and obviously have no rights. Seems kinda prisony. Its like youre a forced guard and the Principal a forced Warden. And the pigs can get you if you leave school. Maybe, Im looking for another word other than prison, but it seems apt.
I think you're forgetting that these are minors, and also, they have rights, but they don't have "full rights" because they are in care and they aren't the age of majority. Kids used to be able to leave school for things, then they either lied or got hurt and the schools get sued and so schools stopped doing that. As a high school teacher, I'm all for kids getting responsibilities and freedoms, but because of our society there has to be a line somewhere.
I think these plainclothes "police" aren't there to police, they are instigators trying to cause violence so when his mates show up they can arrest everyone. Even though he started the fight, he can just say "I am a undercover cop" and be free of any consequence.
That's why when they do shit like that, you treat them the way they are dressed. As far as ANYONE ELSE knows, he's just a random dude attacking kids, and needs to have his face introduced to the bottom of a boot.
There was a particularly good opportunity when he was choking out a female highschool student.
The unfortunate thing is if you defend yourself as you would against any other crazy piece of shit you get charged with assaulting a police officer. Absolute bullshit and any plain clothes officer not undercover should only be treated as a civilian acting outside the law.
The admins, who called the fucking cops, on minors walking “away from where they are supposed to be” They called emergency authorities, specifically ones known for shooting and killing innocents, on your own student body, whom you have a fucking duty of care for, because they were peacefully leaving. This former teacher says all of those admins should be fired, publicly shamed, and rot in hell. People who are against the future, espically the future of their own children, drive me to much rage
