“In the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court wrote the following, (and with all due respect, Justices): ‘women are not without electoral or political power.' ... You’re about to realize just how much you were right about that."

I'll start worrying about Joe Biden the day he can't recall Trump's 91 felony counts.

Unfortunately, there appears to be a lot of women in the US who apparently wish to force the Christian version of burkas on the rest.

"these laws won't apply to me. They're just gonna be used to keep those OTHER women in line."

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I’m getting really tired, angry and frustrated about how everyone is focusing on Biden age. It feels like 2016 all over again. Can’t find anything bad about the guy so we are going to apparently hyper-focus on a quality he shares with the other candidate, yet not mention he shares it with the other candidate. This could cause people to not vote and he could lose to someone who should never have been president in the first place.

I don't know why Democrats are such doormats. I would be shouting every where. Fuck Republicans they took away your abortion rights, vote and we will make them a law.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I hate the thought, but I just don’t think there are enough pro choice conservative women who will vote Dem as punishment for overturning RvW, because at the end of the day our political system is about party not policy. People will suck up their disagreement with the party regardless of how strongly they feel because not letting the other party wins takes priority. This has become exceptionally true for modern conservative republicans.

I only caught a bit of this, but you could see speaker what's his face practically rolling his eyes in his head virtually like "this old fart is in my way". Yeah, a guy trying to make the world better for voters before he dies.. Crazy.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yeah, Speaker Johnson also had the Dick Cheney "I am smug as hell, don't you want to punch me in my stupid face?" look on the entire time. It made me have to actively resist cussing at the TV as he shook his head at every thing Biden was saying.

President Biden returned to the White House after SOTU and was met by a large cheering crowd. /gallery/PU7wHMM

He biffed that line in the speech though. He crushed the first half of the speech but got a little sloppy as it dragged on. Still better than I was expecting.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 37

He could've stuttered all the way through the speech and it wouldn't change shit about what he had to say. Speech impediments don't say anything about the person.

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

Unfortunately America has long since associated speech impediment with "stupidity" I can speak on that pretty damn well, because I have a speech impediment myself. (Punny) And it's hard to get respect from some folks when you stutter or your dyslexia mixes up your words. America is a terribly judgemental country. The current thing they've done is taken "wearing a mask" and turned it into "oh so you're a LIBERAL huh??" No sir, I just don't wanna get everyone's seasonal flu.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Why don't we record you giving a 1.5 hour speech in front of a potential 331.9 million people just in this country alone, half of which hate your very existence, while being heckled at various random times, and then scrutinize every word you say or cough you make. Did Biden even pause for a sip of water? Oh also, dude's had a speech impediment his entire fucking life. The SOTU was pretty fucking fire if you ask me.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Meh. He’s the president of the country, he should be able to give that spend with no hiccups. I miss good speakers like Clinton and Obama.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 7

Lmfao, you're saying Clinton and Obama never made a gaff? You're downright delusional.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Of course they did, ffs. Are you saying Clinton and Obama ever looked as bad as Biden, could barely walk. Jfc Biden looks awful.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

I wasn't aware you had to have a PhD in communications to be a president. When did that requirement start?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You don’t want the leader of the country to be well educated and a good speaker?!?!? Wtf.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Name the last president of any country that was a communications PhD, I'll wait.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I thought his speech was just fine especially considering that trump can't string 3 coherent sentences in a row together .

2 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

His speech had some stutters and such. But people that prefer eloquent hate to stuttering compassion are lost.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

His speech was "were doing this for you, and this, and trying to do this". All of trump's speeches are just "I'm a victim, I'm gonna, go after everyone, they're coming for you next". And his voters love how self centered he is and not doing shit for them.. Bc "you pull yourself up by your bootsrraps.. Govt is here for me to attack others not help you" crazy

"With all due respect" never quantifies the amount of respect due. In this case, zero respect is due.

2 years ago | Likes 199 Dislikes 1

"Don't use that filthy language with me, Humphrey!"

"Filthy language, Minister?"

"I know what 'with respect' means in your jargon! It means you're about to suggest that anything I suggest is beneath contempt!"

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's one of my favourite phrases in English. Mostly because people usually assume there's any respect due.

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

"Why is it that whenever somebody says 'with all due respect' they really mean 'kiss my ass'?" - Ashley Williams, Mass Effect 1.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

3 respects out of a possible 9

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

"We don't mean no harm
But we truly mean all the disrespect"

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

'With all due respect' is ALWAYS an insult- at least in British english.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Usually I've heard it from someone taking to a person on a position of authority, right before they undermine, correct, or otherwise rebuttal what the authority figure has said.

But yeah I usually use it as an insult 😂

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I put this in a meeting chat that had some American colleagues, something like "with all due respect I don't see the issue"... Several lost their shit and accused me of being rude... I was like wow, really guys? It's like they think it's *always* an insult.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well that's because they know the respect they are due... it's close to zero and that makes them big mad.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I suspect he was only talking to a few of the justices there.

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

Most of them, and the one not there. Guess wich one did not come...

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Mmmm, just because you look in the direction of the justices and refer to the justices, doesn't mean the audience is every justice. In fact, there may have been multiple audiences there, each receiving a different message from that one statement.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

they are all conservative fascists to some degree. the message was pretty unambiguous to everyone.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I'll bet he was not talking to justices Breyer, Sotomayor, or Kagan.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dude, did you even watch the video? Every single SCOTUS justice (except for one) was sitting right there in the front row while Biden delivered this statement to their faces.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yes, much like when I'm sitting at the table with my coworkers and the boss talks to someone next to me but refers to them as "administrators".

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Overturning Roe v Wade will historically be the biggest mistake the gop ever made. (Apart from trump, of course.)

2 years ago | Likes 459 Dislikes 1

The biggest mistake GOP made was being overrun with evangelicals. Then Reagan, then the Bush’s, then Trump.

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

The biggest mistake *so far*

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I wish I had faith that our electorate would make this true but I think we have the most apathetic and disengaged electorate ever. They don’t understand the roles of their elected officials. They don’t know enough to care who their zoning board is. They don’t examine vote records for their representatives. They think the president makes laws.

2 years ago | Likes 62 Dislikes 1

Women are the majority of voters. That's established fact. The reality that nobody wants to say out loud is that there are MANY women working to oppress other women.

2 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Don’t forget they also think the president determines gas prices in the free market.

Don't be sad, educate people. This "wah-wah-wah" noise is only taking up airspace. Get out, get good, get it done!

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That’s because Republicans have for years undermined and pretty much destroyed our education system. A lot of kids are coming out of school unable to read, write, or do arithmetic. They have no idea about history or civics. The inner city schools are war zones in some areas.

The “dog who caught the car” analogy doesn’t apply here. Roe wasn’t their end goal. They literally moved onto IVF, contraceptive, etc *immediately*. They said marriage equality will be next in Dobbs. They overturned Roe and have been doubling down on the fascism ever since.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And as I've said before, as long as someone's fighting to bring it back, they can point and say "the left wants to murder babies!!!!!!!"

On the bright side for the reps, it is not like they have to do much to be seen as better than during their Trump era.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A conspiracy theory I 100% belive in, is that the whole issue of Trump, and Christian nationalism as a whole, is a Russian operation to divide the states, along with other countries, to weaken them and hopefully spark civil wars so that they can effectively rule the world.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

and boy do they have a *whole damn list* of doozies to choose from!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yup! They may have solidified their Evangelical, woman-hating base with that decision, but they abandoned so many moderate right-wingers and centrists in doing so that as long as people vote, they have no hope of gaining any more support for their draconian policies.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The cynic in me believes the Democrats didn't fight as hard as they could have because they knew it was an easy issue to win on. I just hope we rectify it quickly and more permanently.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

what will be 'fun' is if congress passes something enshrining right to abortion and the supreme court overturns it as unconstitutional, won't that be a grand ol' time for everyone

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

As Andrew Jackson said (although in a case where he was stealing land from the Cherokee): "John Marshall has made his decision, now let him enforce it."

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean, if Congress had enough votes to pass something like that, they have enough votes to expand the court, and maybe even enough to impeach the justices who voted against it. The Supreme Court justices are only invincible as long as R's in Congress shield them.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Ehhhh…if the filibuster is gone, yeah. Otherwise, I can see 60 for codifying Roe, but not Court expansion.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They gained power quick and were trying to do the stereotypical "make so many changes so quick you overwhelm opposition and take over" in dictator fashion bc they knew once they started on this path they'd lose folks the longer it drags out. But they didnt have enough pieces in place for their shock n awe take over. So, they reveal their shitty plan, and it lingers and stinks. They're greatest advantage right now is pr campaigns making it seem like they have a lot of support.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was honestly surprised they did it. They've been using abortion to pull in single issue voters for a long time. They're gonna have a harder time convincing people now

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A century from now when biosphere collapse has destroyed agriculture, and thus our global civilization, killing billions, nobody will say, “At least one party supported abortion!” … these culture wars are distracting us from an existential threat.

2 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 16

The culture war is set up by billionaires so the poorly educated keep voting for theocracy. Then first order of business for the elected godbotherers is more tax breaks for the filthy rich and wiping out laws limiting industrial harm such as greenhouse gases & other pollution; persecuting gays/trans/women follows later.

Check the Heritage Foundation's funding: it's all far-right crazies with money, like Koch, Uihlein, Bradley... It's not a conspiracy theory if they really are out to get you.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean yes, but also the Dem party is the only side caring about Climate change, so the GOP fucking up like this could help there.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

I would rather watch the world burn than ally with a birth slaver. Or a racist. Or a misogynist. Or a phobe. Or pretty much anyone else in the MAGA movement. It's not "cultural wedge issues", it's fundamental human rights – just as important as climate change – and I will never, NEVER, agree, align with, work with, or in any way "mend bridges" with people who don't support all of the above.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

What are you talking about? Half of the "culture" we're at war with is the cause o, and supports the collapse you think we should be paying attention to. Hey dummy, how do you think we fix biosphere collapse without "culture wars" to get rid of politicians who enable it? Jesus.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Abortion is basic human rights, not a culture war issue. Don't buy into the GQP's framing.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Your point? Its impossible to get the majority of humans to think 100+ years into the future. It will be even more impossible if the Republicans succeed in the turning the country into a Christian theocracy. We have to focus on the things that get the right people into power now.

Trump has been leading in the polls after this. I think it is the biggest mistake the dems ever made. They've kicked that can down the road for so long to entice voters that it finally blew up in their face and killed a bunch of women. Maybe we could fix one or two of the long term issues instead of kicking them down the road forever. Look we've even got Trump vs Biden round two. They aren't even trying anymore.

I will vote. I'm voting for a left wing candidate. I'm not sure who yet, but Joe is center right and Trump is a fascist so neither of those guys as of right now. Make Biden go left and we can talk, but I'm not getting bullied into voting for Biden again.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Ignore polls and don't get bogged down. Depressing the D and I voters is ABSOLUTELY part of the conservative playbook.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

I'm not bogged down. The dems haven't earned my vote. I'll be voting to the left of them. Ignore polls and vote left.

You voting for Biden at the top of the ticket or will you be one of those self-righteous idiots who insists that not voting Blue in the GE is acceptable? If you are, there's a term for people like you. Conservative in Liberal's clothing.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I'll be voting for a left wing candidate. If you can move Biden to the left I'll vote for him, but I'm not a right winger like most of you dems.
