I miss small trucks

I’m a 52 year old man and I got pregnant from watching this

2 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 3

Only issue is, Ford was usually top selling due to its cheap price and that it always fell apart so the people buying them could only afford to buy another by the time it died.

I really wish that trucks stayed no bigger then the ones in this advert

D...do i still have to go see my ford dealer? He didnt really ask he just said go see one now.

Funniest truck commercial I ever saw SO and I just lucked into seeing it. A guy driving a Ford truck helps another guy pull his sunken Chevy truck and attached trailer with a boat, up a boat ramp. The Chevy guy says, "I can't believe how fast it sank." The Ford guy smiles and says, "Like a rock." SO and I looked at each other with a "did he really say that" look and laughed. It only aired once because Chevy filed a trademark infringement complaint for using their "Like a rock" slogan.

I put 285,000 miles on my '94 Ranger before I gave it to my son. The paint was faded, it had a few dings in it, and the seats were worn through, but I never had a bit of trouble with it. That and my Subaru Forester were my favorite cars.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As if "best-selling" actually means best instead of cheapest or easily available. Bring back the Toyota T100

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Had a friend that drove an old Ford Ranger. Something would go wrong with it once a year. He'd spend $100 at the shop to have it fixed if he couldn't just get the part and fix it himself. Thing was a tank. No AC. Felt like riding horseback making your butt hurt. A cart at the grocery story would hit it, and probably make it look better. A mirror got ripped off one time. He just bolted it back on. Then he got a honda civic. I leaned on the interior arm rest, and it popped off. oof

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Of course most of the best years of Ford Rangers they were actually Mazda made

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If you want a truck that'll rattle like a tincan full of rusty nails after a few month if you drive dirt roads every day? Regret a ford, buy... I mean, buy a ford.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Did they really get to say fuckin in commercials back then?

This seems like a legit commercial for the era except for the swearing and smoking. Wonder what the story is behind this? It it's a parody, it's a really good parody.

Okay, I found it. These were outtakes from a real commercial. https://www.f150online.com/articles/classic-ford-trucks-commercial-hilariously-not-safe-work/

Still kinda miss the old man's f-150 he bought back in the early 2000s. Little larger, but more streamlined, still not ultra huge like todays. Didn't even have a CD player or auto roll up windows. Door lock was with a key. NO fob.

I'm starting to think Ford vs Chevy was the origin of stupid xenophobia in the Right.

Wow. I forgot how much of thing that was. My father was GMC all the way. “Found On Road Dead” was what my dad told a friend when he bought a Ford. Man, I miss hearing arguments about pointless stuff. So much better then.

Look how normal sized those old F150s were, not like the behemoths of today. Bigger is not always better.

2 years ago | Likes 557 Dislikes 7

I have one of these. Extended cab with the 5.0. It's beat to shit, but still runs. I've parked next to the current model of the same type and been *dwarfed*.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I watched a documentary that explains it all. The new trucks are all wannabe humvees.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes, it is. I have a big truck, and it's awesome. It's like a minivan for the fam with enough space in the bed for all of the lumber, generators, tools, etc. I need at work. I can do a full day in my mobile office on multiple jobsites if I need to in comfort, then pick up the kids from school without having to move a bunch of crap out of the seats because there's no space. It also gets like 30mpg highway and 17 in the city which isn't great, but electric trucks aren't affordable yet.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You have givin me alot of hope about my tiny

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Never been a truck guy but now that you mention it, I watched a guy help his middle school aged daughter to get up into his stock(not lifted) truck and it struck me as kinda odd.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yep, we had a F-350 diesel on the farm. Not a big Ford fan, but it did the job. For a daily driver, we had a little Chevy S-10 that would seem like a micromachine today.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I saw a truck where the windshield wipers were at my eye level. And I'm 6'2". Anyone shorter than me (which is most people) would be completely invisible form the cab of that truck.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

That was my first thought. Maybe Toyota will bring their new Hilux Champ to the US and the EU. Just need to add some safety features. Right now the biggest version only costs ~15k $. That would be the perfect work horse truck.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And yet, how obnoxious is that clip dude? If he just says to go buy this thing in as douchy a tone as possible that'll sell the product? I would call it ridiculous, but it must work because they have the same or similar in everything from candy bars to the churches. american culture is such a travesty.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a non American the old ones are already big. Actually already too big. Now they are out-of-reality big. Fortunately the environment is getting better than in the ‘80…

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Fuckin' way she goes eh

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hell, the modern Ford ranger is about the size of an early 2000s full sized pick-up. We need to bring back the small pickups. I hate the look of all the new trucks.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I looked under the hood of a f350 4x4 and couldn't reach the hood to close it. I had to start on the side back by the windshield and work my way up to the front to get it latched.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I have an OBS Ford, she still pretty large

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I love a ranger for personal use but I also adore my f150 for work. Having an 8ft bed saves me a significant amount of headache and a significant amount of commute time. Bigger truck=more cargo=less trips=less time spent working.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

You're wrong, dispite modern trucks exploding in size, the average truck bed size has been decreasing

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yea that's not true at all lmao. They do offer shorter beds for crew cabs, but they still offer 8ft beds (I drive one) and the beds are wider and deeper, not to mention towing and hauling capacity has skyrocketed. To put it plainly, modern trucks are bigger but they have more bed volume, can haul heavier cargo, and tow heavier trailers. I know that imgur loves contrarianism, but pickups are still used for work and are still practical vehicles.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd argue that the most used work vehicle is actually a work van, sure trucks have their uses in towing, and hauling loose particulate like gravel, but in most situations a work van is a more practical choice than a truck. A majority of truck owners only use their truck as a daily driver. IMO, any vehicle over 2 tons should require a CDL.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Again, untrue. Not to be rude but you're making a lot of assumptions that reality does not back you up on. F150 is the most popular vehicle in America because of how many are sold into work fleets every year. It's pretty telling you really don't have any experience having to use a vehicle for work, but a van is a terrible choice unless you're carrying lots of small parts and need shelving/drawers for storage, for example plumbers and commercial repair. Using a truck bed for hauling gravel is an1

I've had my 24' Ford Maverick Hybrid about a month and just had to fuel it up. 33 mpg interstate and I've been getting mid 40s to 50s in town. I think it's about a foot smaller than a ranger and about the same length as my buddies Honda sedan. Adaptive cruise, lane keep, safety features galore.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Believe it or not, it's a regulatory thing. They're trying to evade certain regulations. I loved several Ford Rangers in a row but now if I buy a new Ford Ranger It'll basically be an F-150. If I wanted an F-150 I would have bought an F-150 for crying out loud

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

And they lost cargo room. And maybe I just want a single cab truck eh?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

People are so stupid about trucks. I drive a 2019 Tacoma, feel like its huge and people say its to small of truck. People ran farms on smaller trucks with less power not that long ago. Growing up my family survived just fine in a Corsica, and when we finally upgraded it was a stationwagon not one of these land barge SUVs. I don't understand why people think they need a house on wheels to just to commute.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Fuck Chevy... that's why I went with GMC.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

how am I supposed to pick up some bags of mulch from Home Depot in a truck that doesn't take up 2 parking spaces?

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

This is why I am so glad they came out with the Maverick. Its roughly the same size as my old 96 Ranger and loved the hell out of it so much, I now have 2 Mavericks. Small enough people don't ask you to help them move, not compensating, and.. the gas mileage is decent, too (I get ~38mpg in the hybrid one and ~26 in the Tremor/AWD one).

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I daily drive an '86 F150 that "came with" the family farm we're living on. It's just the perfect size, simple machinery (even with the "new fangled" items like power windows), so I can work on it and maintain it, and also...goddammit I'm old, right? Anyway, it's the perfect size.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

I like the jellybean F-150s, they had better aero and better visibility, and even though they sold well, Ford got crap for making the truck "soft" so they went and ruined it by making them blocky again.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

"Better visibility"? Actual tanks have smaller blindspots than the Ford F-150. I'm 5'4" and drivers can just barely see the top of my head as a pedestrian.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also, that's an F-250, not an F-150

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's why I said the jellybean F-150s, like this:

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Then they "Upgraded" it to this, which has much worse visibility and worse aero. It got worse every year after despite no changes to the engine.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I would have thought that the fatter, flatter-faced one would be called Jellybean.... Why is the smaller slimmer one called jellybean?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's rounder, that's why.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Due to legislation around emissions I believe, the mid and full sized got bigger to evade a certain regulation.

2 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 2

Motorcycles are having the same issue. As EURO5 emission regulations come around nearly every bike suddenly jump 50 to 100cc displacement.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fat electrician taught me this

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Cafe standards. The larger the vehicles footprint the lower the mpg target. Its also safety regulations nudging them larger. We could have kei trucks putting around but they dont meet safety regulations.

2 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

If Toyota made a new pickup the same dimensions as their '90s pickup, the fuel efficiency target would be more than 40MPG, and if they couldn't do that they would have to pay a fine per .5 MPG over, per vehicle sold.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd like to point out, as I often do, my penis has been the same size driving every vehicle I've owned. I loved my 1980 Fiesta, my 2011 Silverado 2500 extended Cab Long Bed, my WRX, Semi trucks at work, Minivan, etc, etc. Turns out, tiny penis in every single one. Even when I drove a Focus for several years (and loved), tiny penis! I suspect penis size has little to do with vehicle choice. It might just be genetics. IDK though. Not a scientist.

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

World of difference. You and I acknowledge our tiny penises and don’t give a rats ass. Drive the best vehicle you can afford that gets the job done. I need big pickups for my job. I really miss the days when trucks didn’t need to be so damned tall. It’s a tool for me. And they are making it really hard to use

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't think this guy has a tiny penis.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

WE MUST GO TALLER! NO EXTRA GROUND CLEARANCE, ONLY TALLER!

2 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

Not just trucks either. A full sized Lexus is now camry sized and newer cars and truck don't fit in many garages.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Listen, if you are going to make a point, dont bullshit it. Using a crew cab to show a longer truck than a single cab is misleading.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

The point of the article it's from is that the crew cab is the only thing people today buy and the average cab size and bed size have literally inverted as a result. Went from 40/60 to 60/40.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

I would say the width is the worst dimension. Those things do not fit into UK parking spots but are driven by the most entitled people so not uncommon to see many in the disabled bays.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Girth is often secondary to length, but it's probably the most important.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Don't have to tell me, I favor global market subcompacts. They're not easy to come by in America these days.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I love how the older smaller truck has the bigger bed

2 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

The smaller one was made for working and hauling. Now they at $80k of excess with heated and cooled Napa leather seats and sun roofs.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Because the old one was a work vehicle. The new one is a road tank for soccer moms.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Well thats because the new one is a crew cab. Its comparing apples and oranges really.

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 4

My dad bought a crew cab, I asked him why he decided to go with the small bed lol

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

it's comparing the average truck purchase over the years. Everybody today buys crew cabs.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I would love a 2 door with an 7-8 foot bed that isn't 24 feet long.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

The crew cab is just an SUV without the utility of a covered bed. They share the same frames mostly.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

The Ranger, S-10, Tacoma. Were all perfect sized typical person trucks back then and into the 1990s

2 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 3

I always wanted to get me a Ford Ranger and fix it up as a sort of play / general work truck, but they're so expensive OR beat to shit.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I fucking loved my ranger. Fit in any parking spot, can carry decent load. If I wanteds to take a bunch of people somewhere, I drove the Caravan I had.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Normal people probably agree, and thats fair. But when we started dating my wife drove an S10 and I'm 6'4" and I HATED that fucking truck ... She had it tricked out though so at least it was cool af

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Drove 1985 S10 Blazer, 2001 S15 Sonoma and now a 2017 Nissan Frontier. Simple basic and I don't need a step ladder to retrieve something from the bed of the truck.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know a guy who still has his old Ford Ranger because it's the perfect size for a daily driver, PLUS it's stick so he doesn't worry about it getting stolen lol

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

They're tough as nails, literally today someone drove one through the concrete block wall of a building in my uncle's driveway (there was a snowstorm this morning) Airbags deployed and all. He backed out and drove it home.

My neighbor has a decent '89 Ranger with the maligned 2.9l V6 and manual trans. Someone without insurance hit him and totaled it, RIP.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I had an Isuzu p'up with an 8' bed. My high school frind had a Mazda B2200.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I’m old. I’ve had 2 Rangers, Mazda B2000, GMC Sonoma, and now a Nissan Frontier. I like it but it’s bigger than I like. Ford’s new Maverik is a decent size.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The maverick and canyon are the size of a full sized truck from the 90's.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

No you are mistaken dude. The newest resurrection of the Ranger, the Canyon & the Colorado are larger as older full size. The Maverick is much smaller. https://www.thedrive.com/news/41938/compact-2022-ford-maverick-pickup-shows-its-size-next-to-ranger-f-150

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I drive a 2006 toyota prerunner. No joke that shit is basically a wheel barrow, but power nothing, aftermarket stereo, minor scratches and dents, super reliable and can haul dirt, Perfect for general house crap and the occasional helping a friend move.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

ok fine power brakes and steering, I mean no dumb accessories or CPU or dash cams, or back up cameras or etc BS.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I would love a compact Ranger size truck. I swear my 2011 Ranger is the size of the old F150.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Similarly my 2020 Colorado is the size of a 1990s C/K 2500.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Pretty much. My 2006 Ranger was noticeably taller and wider than my 96 one was.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Maybe Toyota will grace the US market with the Hilux Champ.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Maverick is the one for you

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

People shit on the maverick for being a unibody l, but it's the perfect size, gets good gas mileage, can be bought with steelies, and can do a basically drop in swap for the 2.3 Ecoboost if you want to take someone to gapplebees

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0
